The Games

Yeah, I know Smash was super popular last year, and I’m certainly not against having it (I plan to pick up Brawl, even), but just given logistics it seems like the easy one to drop. Losing Brawl would go far to address last year’s space and time issues, and considering the general lack of cohesion between the Smash community and the rest of the fighting game community it seems like it’d be the least controversial to drop among the bulk of the people who go to Evo. I think it would be cool to have Brawl because I plan to play it, but I don’t know, I’d be surprised to see CvS2 get dropped over Brawl.

I was saying the same thing. I was assuming Evo needed Smash for diversity and numbers sake but, it’s not like Smash/Brawl won’t be plenty fine without Evo.

Wiz likes money: Smash prints money. Smash is in, and there’s really no reason to take it out.

I ask because I don’t know honestly. March to August, is that enough time to truly learn Brawl for Tournament play?

LOL. They won’t even decide on the rules by then.

No items, fox only, final destination.

Oh right silly me.

I say that as a joke but fuck, I don’t even know. I just saw that video making fun of it.
I won’t claim to know anything about SSB.

just get rid of gg and evo will be fine.

Wait… the CvS2 community still cares about their game being at Evo? This is the first time I’ve really heard it been vocalized.

I’m pretty sure the 4th game will be Smash. The last two spots are going to be a toss up between ST, CvS2, and GG. To be honest I have no idea what the last two games will actually be at this rate.

thats a lot of time. man you guys (the entire sf community, basically) really arent used to learning new games anymore or something. i dont get it. people are complaining that new games arent tournament proven or tested in a few months. Everyone is starting out on the same foot, experimenting with the game. even if the game is 3 weeks old, theres still high level play involved, and scrub level play. it just seems like everyone thinks that we have to figure out EVERYTHING, LITERALLY, in a game(including all strategies, bugs, tiers, etc) before we can consider it for a tourney, which can take years.

its just fucking silly to me. the same argument is being had in the evo announcements thread regarding SFHD. people complaining 2-3 months wont be enough time to get used to a game for a tourney(a game with the exact same engine and ground rules, mind you) even though everyone is starting the game at the bottom and learning together. theres no 14 year skill gap anymore(for the most part).

i just dont understand why we have to be uber gods at a game before deciding if it should be used in tourney play. especially since earlier in a games life, theres a lot less bullshit involved and its actually more tourney worthy. case in point, look at alpha 3. HIGHLY playable in a tourney setting, as the years went by, it became more and more and more ridiculous. or look at any VF game. when its new, sega holds a national 2 months after release or close to it, and at that time, the matches seen look decidedly high level at the time since everyone was on the same page. same with tekken and SC nationals.

anyway. i dont even know if it made sense. since my thoughts were way too hard to describe clearly.

but i do see the points with brawl and how the game is 100% fine without evo, in the tourney scene. so yeah, thats a very good observation that i didnt really think about. rather interesting

brawl surely doesn’t need evo when you have all this http://www.gamestop.com/gs/ssbb/tournament/default.asp

i wish for vf5 to be in but as of now it can’t compare to the numbers other games will gather. i went to evo last year solely for vf5 and will go again this year if they have it. i’ll even go if they don’t have it and set up in byoac just to keep the presence there.

Thank god for you. I know I’ll be there playing.

Yeah, why put Brawl in Evo when we have a horrible GS tournament with 1 minute matches in the works?

Honestly.

So far we have 3s,MvC2,and Tekken DR. As for New games being at Evo, probably just Brawl.

Not only that, you have to use their nasty grimy nunchuck and mote thats attached to the kisko. At least thats what they told me, I’ll be bringing the lysol. Also having no actual prizes until you get to the finals sucks as well.

c’mon, tetris DS!

Wait… There’s a CvS2 community? This is the first time I’ve really heard it been vocalized.

Hilarious, as long as CVS2 is back then I’m set for the games that I can actually compete in and have a 1% chance… Though I really do think that one of the spaces is being wasted for Smash. Leave that up to MLG and their shitty tourneys.

The Smash Community is huge, came in droves, supporting their game and had the most hype during finals.

i dont see why they shouldnt be invited back.

I think smash bros will be there becuz of the large tourney last year and becuz last year someone refused to post the results for Smash bros and he got negged by the higher-ups

i hope the other two are guilty gear and CVS2

i say that becuz of what each game brings and how hard it is to reproduce gameplay experiences in other games

3s is ur Archetype capcom fighting game

marvel is ur mind blasting, execution rewarding, 3man tag teaming hypefest

tekken is ur 3-d fighter

smash is ur “minsream” game that is newplayer friendly

i pick cvs2 over ST becuz thrid strike and cvs2 can fill the void left behind from ST and CvS2 is unique enough that nothing can fill its void if it was gone. and it will be gone with street fighter 4 comes out anyways (guessing)

guilty gear is ur non street fighter 2d fighter that is most modern and is as different to 3s as tekken
