In the show, he pretty much is raping her. I think the show is kind of an alternate character interpretation for Drogo (among others), and it tones down what little niceness he had and kind of tones up the asshole bandit side.
Which is still worth it to get to see him rip out somebody freaking tongue.
Well, they show his soft-side towards the end of the season. Dany and Drogo are deeply attached to one-another, and it shows.

Really? That’s so random, we get teased with an epic sword fight about to begin between Syrio and Sandor but we can only assume Sandor was victorious because he shows up in later scenes unharmed (which I find impossible if the pair really did fight).
