Just wanna make sure I understand: you want a database for the leaderboard, right?
If that’s the case, I probably should’ve stated before that while I do know how to use SQL, I’ve only had experience in using it in phpMyAdmin alongside php files. Also, I’ve only ever used FileZilla for uploading files to servers. So I can do that sort of stuff, I just need to learn how to do it in another context.
Basically, VMWare is a program that lets you do a fake install of an OS while you’re running another OS, and then run that OS within your native one. So you could run an empty Linux install in Windows or vice versa.
So we may have to do a little bit of research on how to make the database, if we can’t figure out how to implement it, I have no qualms about doing it by hand and putting it in a sticky. This is more of a convenience thing and allowing more flexibility on the GMs to do it themselves just in case I’m in a situation where I can’t.
That’d all be a matter of knowing what to write to in SQL, and what fields to add to the form, IMO. If Forge knows how to make forms that’ll write to SQL, and someone else knows how to work with SQL, then it’s all a matter of coordination there.
Basically, you’d need a form for admins only that write to the SQL the following:
Name of the game
Who ran the game
Then a repetitive list, expandable by clicking “add new player” consisting of
Player name (selectable from a drop down list box)
Points accrued (make sure it can accept negative integers)
Win (could be a checkbox, where checking the box adds 1 to the win field of the database)
Really, that should be it, if I’m right.
We’d also need to be able edit games if we need to.
But there will be a bit research to go still, because we would need it to seemlessly work with SMF. So a little bit of searching through www.simplemachines.org/community may help, because the way you extend the forums is through installable zip files that you upload to the forum.
Plus it would be a great thing to make this something that could be sent upstream to SMF for others to use. Never a bad idea to give back to the software and to any other mafia communities that might be using SMF.
That’s something we need to discuss. I’m not sure what to do with that. This may be a hot button issue, but we could either start off fresh, or only carry over people’s points that come over to JTM. I’m really torn on this.
That’s an idea I hadn’t thought of. If we can figure out how to make that happen, then I don’t see why that isn’t possible.
Just been brainstorming, and since I was talking about having the Leaderboard invites for the next All Star game only reflecting the games between All Star games, we could do a soft reset of the leaderboard on JTM, but keep the old leaderboard active as an All Time list. So, you can see both your results for the rolling total as well as All Time.
I had some other ideas, but most of them fell into either the ‘too religious’ or ‘too many things’ categories. So instead of a bunch of Mafia members with Jesus Toast (a.k.a. the Jesus Toast Mafia), we got the Mafia Jesus Toaster.
That’s kind of where I was going, was the Toaster. I was kind of expecting some imprint on bread, but that’s harder to do I think, and this is pretty darn awesome.
One other thing that would be awesome is that imprinted Jesus with the knife isolated for a favicon. That should definitely be our favicon, no doubt about it.
