When did i say i wanted other games to flop? I dont want any fighting game to flop. What I’m saying it that unfortunately, instead of drawing more people into the fighting game genre… people are just migrating from game to game. How does this help the community grow? People only have a finite amount of time to play a game. So it thins out the player base for any particular game because some stay playing the old game, and some leave without returning to play the old game. Where as when SF4 hit, we got tons of new people in. If i had wanted SCV or VF5 or MK or DoA5 to flop i wouldnt have bothered with buying the games at all. But i’m getting tired of buying a game only to struggle to find opponents with within mere months or weeks of release.
The other point i was trying to make were that the publishers of these games are doing a shitty job at promoting their games, which is why you don’t really see any huge influx of new people.
I also didnt say that people could only play one game. I don’t play one game. But the fact is that most of these new games arent bringing new people in. TTT2 did, KoF13 kinda did for a bit, but it’s already starting to shink. It hasnt even been out a year. I don’t expect people to play the same game forever, but i at least want to milk a couple years outta the game, or ideally until the sequel to that game is released. Particularly if I’ve waited **YEARS ** for the game to come out
You’re misinformed if you think they’re not drawing more. These games are drawing more people but you can’t overtake Street Fighter. It’s the grand daddy of FGs. The newer games are competing pretty tightly with each other whereas SF4 didn’t and it was the first new SF game since like 3rd Strike. Totally different scenarios.
There are so many resources for learning these FGs, it’s almost inexcusable to not learn them if you’re buying it. Some of the games might be easy to just pick up off the bat but I know a few casual 3D players that cannot grasp moving back, forward, and jumping in Street Fighter. They play Tekken and SoulCalibur.
Some of the things in these FGs just don’t click with people. There’s just going to be a certain fan base these games will never reach just like any other genre.
I wouldn’t say that is the grand daddy, specially when there are regions where umvc3 has taken more power over it, and others where is no longer played, for the looks, maybe umvc3 is the most popular on usa right now, followed by sf4 there.
Basically we’re more or likely playing these games because they have derived from Street Fighter one way or another. No Street Fighter = no fighting game success, no Marvel collaboration with Capcom, no UMVC3. Full circle!!
In an alternative reality we may have gotten Marvel vs Mortal Kombat Or Marvel vs DC by netherrealms? Who knows.
Tbh as much as i love sfxt the player base is hella frustrating, we’ll never get as much new tech as sf4 or umvc3 simply because not as many people want to put in the time, i prefer to run sets with chaos and songi rather than playing online because I’m sick of tier city, but high level play in this game is amazing i just wish more people would see it :I
This is part of the reason why I’m doing my “In the Lab” series; I’m hoping to discover new tech or reinforce old tech, as well as play with a bunch of different characters to get people to try out different teams. The more people we can get to try different teams, the more tech that will probably be discovered, or possible counters to some of the alleged top tiers. I’m sure there is plenty of anti-gief tech out there that’s waiting to be exploited (I know that Heihachi’s j.HK is god-like against Gief because it pretty much stuffs everything including Lariat). I’m sure Songi has some anti-gief tech, with the whole “Gief Slayer” title and all.
I’m surprised no one has really jumped on the Hwoarang/Lili dive kick reset train in tournaments. I guess that is considered “doing more than I have to!” that people use to throw around in the early part of this game’s release.
Uh it took a lot of my time, but it was worth it man really worth it. That shit wasn’t easy to find too. Was fun, just wasn’t easy. A lot of it i spent on my own. The one thing that someone else discovered that i didn’t was the lili reset off dive kick. Other then that it was a lot of trial and error. You spend 4 hours hearing. “HOW IS THIS HOW IS THIS. YAH YAH YAH.” and try not to go insane lol ^^;;; I think my work has paid off because i’m very knowledgeable of lili and the lili players are always active, which i like. So it’s great to share ideas with them and guide them along so they can eventually overtake the world =D
You need to move to va man. So you can play me and will08. Jibbo is also around the area so yeah. Probably the best sfxt players you’ll find on the east coast =D
Wishing a current FG dies is *obnoxious shit *of the highest order (SFxT EventHubs comments for example)
Saying that, there’s a big difference between this and actually preferring less releases with more players for each, which I don’t think is an offensive concept.
But what people need to learn is that the companies don’t want you playing the same game for years, they don’t benefit for it; that is why they release revisions and/or alternatives that could or not play in a similar fashion of their other games, sometimes this games can serve as alternatives for people who don’t like the other games, or simply as “replacements” of the previous games.
Like i said before, the number of releases is the same that it has been for years, in fact is even less than before.
DOA5, VF5FS, SC5 are games that took a lot of time to get released and they cater to a specific demographic on the 3d games
TTT2 is meant to replace T6 so the only competition is DOA, VF or SC, but even when all of them are 3d fg they play different from each other, not everyone that likes DOA like TTT2 for example.
P4A is ASW releasing a licensed game between a revision one of their games, is a game meant to replace for a while one of their main lineup games, of course this doesn’t mean that it would die when BBCP comes out that only would happen if the community behind of it lets it die, also, the game is meant to be as a gateway for poeple who actually doesn’t play fg, which is why it has a very simple command list
SFxT is capcom trying to make an experiment and trying new things to see what works and what not, something that they can’t afford to try with the main lineup, if it worked or not, that depends of what you think about SFxT.
Aquapazza, the game would never be released outside of japan from what we know, so this one is a moot point
Under Night In-Birth, no console plans yet, and we don’t know if they would release it outside japan, another moot point
For the next year the only releases that we can be sure are BBCP and Injustice
Also japan scene had more releases on those last 2 years than us, with games like the already mentioned UNIB, AP, Koihime or Chaos Code, or re-releases like DaemonBride, BattleFantasia NEsica Ver. or The Rumble Fish 2. And they don’t have any problem of OH MY GOD, SO MUCH GAMES!!!, yes not every game has a big scene, but like i said, we don’t need to play every game at tournaments or tournament level to enjoy them, But more importantly, if you really want to have an scene for a game then work for it, instead of waiting that others make it happen, don delude yourself thinking that because you don’t have 1000 people playing your game on X tournament then means that there is no scene for it, rarely any game outside umvc3 or ssf4ae2k12 would pull that type of numbers on the USA, MK9 sold way more than sf4 or mvc3 combined and still never pull that type of numbers, so don’t expect that to happen, at least not suddenly.
lol i woulda jumped on that reset but i cant get comfortable with Lilli to save my life, but my Hwoarang is beast
EDIT: Also i noticed that many people that pick up hwoarang tend to swap him with either chun li, cammy, or xiaoyu, like chris g’s main team was hwo/xi but now its cammy/xiaoyu, my friend kidbuu used to play hwoarang rufus now he plays xiaoyu and rufus
I kind of feel the same way about lili, just a character that feels…weird for me. That’s why I play Nina, she feels fluid and smooth to use. Plus I like her buttons, just wish she didn’t have a reverse DP motion.
Lili is definitely one of those characters where you’re going to have to spend at least a month practicing hard with before she feels natural. Of course, as Songi and Juri_Kills_Friend have shown, she’s incredibly rewarding, especially with the right partner.
I don’t know about the game being dead or not. I do know I own it, and I wouldn’t mind if the game was good. At all… It would justify the money I paid for it.
Here’s the good points about the game (before I point out the flaws):
[]Compared to the vast majority of today’s games, it has 0 comeback mechanics (if you ignore gems, and the “yet to be useful” pandora mode)
[]Tekken character mechanics are a breadth of fresh air
Bad points and the real reason why people hate on the game and don’t play it (as opposed to the whole “bandwagon” theory):
[]UI
[]Number of stages
[]Music
[]Horrendous shader (if they wanted to recycle the models, they could’ve just kept the original shader)
[]DLC shenanigans
[]Even throws have cutscenes now (because SF4 wasn’t annoying enough)
The above are “casual” reasons. Still good enough. But what if you’re competitive and all you care about is the gameplay, and can deal with the idiocy presented in the aforementioned points?
[]Timeouts bonanza (and it’s got nothing to do with the time; it’s related to handful of factors which are not relevant to this post, hence, I’ll refrain from boring you with them)
[]Gems

Netcode is worse than SF4 (which is saying much, since SF4’s, the way I see it, is pretty bad itself compared to GGPO)
You don’t need more than 1 of any of the reasons above, to actually “not play a game”.
I feel all of these. I’d tolerate the low number of stages, the throws having cutscenes, and the netcode beyond slightly worse, if all the others were gone.
The DLC on disk alone completely destroyed the game for me. And I was one of the people cheering for the game, telling everyone to buy it. Many people who bought it felt tricked. Capcom played a lousy card. Even if the game turned out to be brilliant in 3 months with amazing patches that fixed everything… I can tell you right now that people wouldn’t jump back in. That’s not how it works.
Capcom will move forward now and aim for new releases. They’ll have their SFxT team keep the game updated, but for the most part, they’re moving on from that mistake. To all those who love the game: great. I love Hokuto no Ken myself, and the game is broken. That’s the way the cookie crumbles. You can love a game that most people don’t love, without having to hate on others. HnK is dead. SFxT is dead. Dead in that it has no proper competition offline. There are no major tournaments running with the game. P4U alone is dying out as well and it gets streamed often, let alone SFxT which gets pretty much no exposure.
X player saying he “enjoys” the game, is as valid as Y player saying he doesn’t.
Tokido dissing P4U is as relevant as Dieminion liking SFxT. In that regard, Tokido doesn’t like SFxT, but is playing it for the 25th SF tournament, like my other japanese players. After that, they’ll move on.
while I personally don’t feel the same way (because I way prefer this netcode over SF4 and the DLC doesnt bother me since I personally felt the game was worth it), I agree that unless the DLC issue is fixed this game will stay dead. I dont think that gems are really a problem. But there are a lot of ignorant people that are determined to believe that gems break the game and the fact that they are paid DLC was the killing factor as to why so many people hate the game.
I still say that the #1 reason timeouts are numerous simply because blocking is way to damn strong in this game. Although i admit grey life issue is also a big factor along with timers not stopping during super/cross assault/pandora freeze.
IMO grey life is a bigger issue than blocking. Blocking should be good because once you get opened up you lose liek 50-60% life on one character. I’m just annoyed by grey life negating and diminishing the value of some of the work put in. There’s a time and place for balancing the grey life. They purposely tuned the frame data a little different and made lows a little slower than how people were used to in SF4. Basically even with tons of moves that are negative on block, they’re not in punishable range and that in itself just punishes people that mash a lot.
There’s tons of stuff borrowed from Tekken Tag in here that kind of does and doesn’t work out perfectly and the grey life is one of them. Charge up counter hits, one character K.O.'s for whole team, ground bounce, loads of juggling, anti-air juggling… yeah.
SFxT largely is a fine game. There’s tiny little things that annoyed me at first but things are just different in here.
I only hope that the future update patch will address a few things:
[]Grey life, either slowing it a lot when you’re tagged out or just reducing it’s amount left behind in general. Boost combos are the easiest crap to do and yet it leaves a lot of grey life behind. I get that it’s there to balance something that can be easily done but the damage scaling of it is already punishing enough to the player using it.
[]Juggle potential balancing, I’d love to see Tekken characters actually juggle more than SF chars. I’m very jelly Lei can palm loop forever. lol.
[]Shaky life meters need to go. I’m hella annoyed.
[]Refining the netcode.
[]Stop releasing gems. They are getting stupid at this point there’s too many to keep track of. There’s like 500 of them in game already for free and purchase.
[]Buff M.Bison
That’s all. Maybe I should bomb the Capcom-Unity boards with these requests.
Grey life usually isn’t too big of an issue for me because anyone who’s fought me knows that I rely very little on boost combos. However, I see your point when all the top tier characters are very reliant on boost chains to do anything. I also agree about the gems, just make em all free or stop releasing em. Its starting to annoy me. Also, I miss the life bar shrinking when you get hit, it feels… i dunno more like my combos are actually doing something. Netcode could you tiny bit of polishing, but I’ve never had too much trouble unless my opponent were using wireless. And a large number of the cast needs buffs, or the top tier is going to have to be nerfed to living hell.
