Rooney was a fingernail away from knocking in that ever illusive first goal. He’s a good player, he’ll get one eventually, I think. Ronaldo’s first goal was a flukey kind of shot as well.

In all honesty, when ever these two teams meet, they put on one hell of a show! It can go either way. Of course, seeing the 2 teams, Argentina might come out on top. You still can’t count out EL TRI though!!!
In an Argentina / Mexico match up, I think Argentina definetly has to be considered the favorite, but Mexico has been playing solid in South Africa and you know they’ll leave everything on the Pitch… I don’t think Mexico has the weapons but I know they’ll fight for 90 very physical minutes.

They look hasty … the last pass is not commin through and noone is taking the good cut to get next to Mesut when they actually get up front. 50/50 so far, at least its entertaining and no yellow card parade …
Edit: Looking good right now, at least our goalkeeper is much better and Ghana seems to be pressured more doing small failures now. Still going back and forth.

Funny the way the team who played with the WC ball in their domestic league all year have no trouble with long range power shots, passes, crosses etc!
Fairly certain MLS used that ball too and the US team also seem quite comfortable with the ball.

Germany and US, Argentina and Uruguay. The only match that I believe will be very one-sided is Argentina vs Mexico. Argentina significantly more talent: if Mexico plays defensively, they can break through, while if Argentina plays defensively, I do not see Mexican players with the needed skill to trick or concatenate passes. They would just provide dangerous counter-attacks to a very fast team.

Sorry to say, but I see Germany taking this one. England is just one garbled mess of nothing. No offensive power, Gerrard and Lampard look lost out there, Rooney is a virtual non-factor, dull offensive strategies… Germany is more disciplined and has more order. Sorry Brits, better luck next year…if you can manage to find Rooney’s soul wandering about. :wonder:
