The Football (Soccer) Thread - Season 2017/2018

SACREBLEU!!

The commentators are saying that England team will finally step up. I wish they would stop hyping up the team, they should be preparing us for the inevitable disappoint and Cappello’s resignation. If Egypt made it into the world cup we would have been saying Bye Bye to England last week.

Sounds like Argentina Mexico should be an epic match

Well…A ‘normal’ England team would, usually the more dire the situation, the more heart England show. But the current one? Not sure they care enough.

Need to get the lead in the first half, otherwise Slovenia would do the smart thing and play heavy defense (might even see 9-0-1). I just don’t see team US lose tomorrow.

First second round matchups:

  • Argentina vs. Mexico part 2
  • Uruguay vs. S. Korea

It was a good run, Mexico… but Argentina looks too good. Why was Greece playing defensively when they needed to win??? :bluu:

Korea…they look pretty strong. Won’t be easy for Uruguay by any means.

Here’s hoping for USA winning their group and continue trolling to through the knockout stages…lol

He’s Definitely Grabbing A Legend

The S.Korea Vs Nigeria game was entertaining. Pretty bad defense from both sides led to multiple scoring opportunities, especially for Nigeria.

gg for Nigeria. It’s okay though, they have their rich billionaire princes to cheer’em up.

They were probably admitting they lacked creative players to break through Argentina’s defense and decided to simply speculate a goal from a counter-attack. Pretty much what South American clubs resorted to do in world club championships after 2000 due to too many players being bought by European clubs. Sometimes, it works.

we wanted to keep 0 in our defence first and then look out for a goal…

but when you have to defend against players like Messi, Milito, and Veron that doesnt always go well…

At least we played decent and didnt let them party like Portugal did with N.Korea, after all this was the 2nd World Cup ever for Greece

Greece had their best chance to go through keeping it 0-0. If Korea drew or won, then even a win would not have necessarily been enough- they would have needed to beat Argentina by two clear goals or more. That wasn’t going to happen.

However, keeping it 0-0 meant one more goal by Nigeria (any Nigeria win by any score) would have seen them through.

Basically, Greece knew a Nigeria win was much more likely than a 2-0 win for themselves, and playing for a win would almost definitely meant for a defeat against a much better side in Argentina.

So 0-0 was their best hope. Rehagel is notorious for playing for a clean sheet. They won Euro 2004 with a series of 1-0 victories against much better sides. Swiss did it against Spain too. Ultra defensive works well against superior attacking teams.

USA robbed again of a good goal

man that some ol bullshit. they shoulda never let a third world country host a world cup. all it’d take is like a goat or something to bribe these refs.

EDIT: god dammit, blew a perfect opportunity. let’s step it up, US!

But that’s your own fault: US should be able to outbid any briber!

Golden opportunity #2 flushed away. What the fuck.

It should have been goal #3

It should have been goal #3

Uhh, I don’t think any of the refs are from South Africa.

yellow card? what?

FINALLY! Assholes took their time.:sweat:

awesome goal

Goal!!! The US wins Group C on a Landon Donovan goal in the 91st minute! DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES???
