The Football (Soccer) Thread - Season 2017/2018

I don’t know if I see it as that valid, since even if the competition in the MLS is less talented or skilled as it is in the Euro leagues, that should mean he is supposed to dominate. Instead his team was one of the worst in the league last season and most of their success comes when he wasn’t there. I mean you see individual players take leadership roles all the time to help their teammates play better.

Hell, if Tiger can get various folk in the PGA tours to step their game up by being his dominating self. Beckham has no excuse for not even trying to do the same or remaking his team in his own image when coming to the MLS.

I like OJ Simpson. He’s an awesome footballer.

The overall talent in MLS, or lack thereof, can hinder Beckham’s performance, specifically in his teammates. He can put a ball on anyone’s head with near pinpoint accuracy, but if there’s no one that’s good enough on the Galaxy’s to step up and put the header into the goal, than there’s no assist for him. Afterall, there are 11 men on a team.

Everyone seems to forget or doesn’t know what position Beckham plays. He’s a right sided midfielder. The only thing he does well, and has ever done well throughout his playing career, has been putting crosses into the box from the right side. He has never had speed or dribbling, he never had the know how for through-passes either, nor is he a clinical finisher by any means. BUT, with a good forward, he got guide a ball into the path anywhere. Oh, and he can take a mean free kick.

That’s not to say he’s not influential, he just needs the right people around him to be effective. There were certainly right people in Manchester, there were right people in Madrid and Milan. But Landon Donovan and the Galaxy’s obviously don’t work as well as everybody had hoped.

What makes Beckham more of a douchebag is that first he says he is “totally comitted to the MLS” and 3 seconds later he confesses that “he is not closed to playing back in Europe in the near future”.

Is anyone following the AFC cup, out of curiousity?

Website and Twitter feed I do for the football management game I work on. Twitter is quite good if you like following football news, I put up the latest transfer links and articles, and stories from around the world. Last week a twelve year old in Bolivia became the youngest professional footballer ever! (came on as a sub in a league game)

@ 3:30. Fucking goal post.

We also got save by the goal post too…

Any who Sounder’s game are fun. It almost as hype as American football.

I couldn’t help but notice that the ball seemed to get more of a bounce when it hits the ground at Qwest Field. Something up with that turf?

Also, my controller broked and now I have to play PES with my keyboard. This sucks.

Watched the MLS All-Star game versus Everton. Tim Howard is a beast. If it were a lesser goalkeeper in front of the net the MLS team would have won by at least 5 goals.

Sad that this thread doesn’t get more action here. But I guess it’s a pretty heavily American forum.

On my subscription list now though.

Watched that all-star game also. Decent for a friendly. Good goalkeeping. MLS dominated the second half, but that wasn’t surprising with Everton sitting on the lead.

Sir Bobby Robson lost his battle with cancer today.

An absolute legend and a true gentleman.

He will be greatly missed.

Wow. RIP. I was waiting for him to come back to take over Newcastle again =(.

This. RIP Sir Bobby.

RIP Sir Bobby

Was too busy yesterday to bump this thread with details of the Mexico vs USA match.

2-1 loss leaves them third in the group, but with two very winnable matches at home to El Salvador and away to Trinidad & Tobago left, they should go through.

Did anyone watch last nights match? Didn’t get to see it myself as I was too busy watching Ireland be embarrassed by Australia.

I forgot about the match last night :frowning:

When does the EPL season start? Should be soon no?

Saturday the 15th, I believe. Speaking of, that means 1 month until Hewler FC vs Al-Kuwait Kaifan…

Forgot about it myself. Sucks but at least it wasn’t a complete blowout.
