Well, I finished reading The Return of Barry Allen. I’ve heard Mark Waid had the best run on Flash. After reading this story, I think I can see why. Even though I knew the outcome of this sorry after hearing about two years ago, this was a really good read. I’m really looking forward to reading the rest of Waid’s run when the TPBs start coming out. I’m glad I sprung for the 1996 TPB edition of Return of Barry Allen. There was a very interesting conversation between Waid and the then editor of the Flash books. Apparently Waid was asked over and over again when he was going to bring Barry back. Waid had a particular line that stuck out to me. “And Barry… Well, I love him, but he was a stiff. Did he have any personality at all?”
Honestly, while Waid’s first run is truly stellar, Terminal Velocity being up there with The Return of Barry Allen IMO, the whole damn thing from #62-247 is great. Wonky art here and there, but it’s mainly because 90’s. Bonus point for doing One More Day correctly in Hell to Pay.
There are a few pre-Waid issues that are awesome as well. Don’t think those were ever collected in trade, but #54 is amazing and definitely worth checking out.
Real talk, I didn’t think white girl booty could get any better and then Patty comes onto the Flash and I just about have a stroke. I want to personally thank her parents for doing the deed to bring her into this world and creating such a perfectly round butt-ox. Is booty worship a thing? If it isn’t it should be. No, Million didn’t take over my account.
But Patty didn’t just bring a pair of killer cheeks to the show. Patty was a cute, adorable, super likable character that didn’t tease. She was into Barry from day one. Is Patty anything like this in the comics?
HOLD UP. There’s a One More Day like story in the Flash? CRIPES. OMD in Spidey was stage 4 cancer! Like, that story still makes me cringe. Joe Quesada’s rectum must be killing him from crapping out that awful story. Just knowing there’s a story like that in Flash makes me uneasy.
Waid wrote that many issues of Flash? That’s nearly a decade’s worth of material.
