The First Lady of Fighting - General Chun-li Discussion

You can actually do the EX SBK barely off the ground. Same way you would perform the lvl3 XF SBK infinite – with consistent instant air SBKs. You’ll land and either make the move safe or make it possible to follow up with a L or M into combo.

I haven’t played any actual matches yet, I’m still training mode.

An idea I have is to place yourself after the opponent is knocked down in the corner and place Chun in the spot where if the opp rolls forward puts himself in a 50/50 where he doesn’t know which side he might end up on after the roll. Do a EX SBK barely off the ground – if the opp gets hit free combo / if the opp blocks you should be relatively safe when you land.

saying “tenshokyaku is 2 frames” is totally fine. posting an entire table of frame data undermines a lot of the work on the guide. i’m sure you guys understand

Since when was posting frame data and giving everyone easy access a bad thing all of a sudden. Should go over on Dustloop and tell them they should take down that frame data.

buktooth wrote the guide, he’s trying to make a profit, can’t blame him

Buktooth wasn’t the only one who worked on the guide. Its a gray area in terms of what material from the book should be posted and what shouldn’t be posted. The book is published material though, so completely copy and pasting is bad. At least give it some time and respect the people who worked on the guide.

Back on topic, I used to play chun/doom-a/wesker but since the stomp OTGs now, you can take Wesker(if you wanted too ^^) and put another character that could help Chun. Nemesis armor assist seems solid since you get a ground bounce and acts as a get me off assist.

unfortunately, i always overestimate how mature people can be

it should be common sense what is and isn’t cool to paste in the forums: anything from the guide used in discussion (“tenshokyaku is 2 frames”, “chun can now combo off of airthrows by doing airdash to headstomp to legs…”, etc.) is totally fine. unavoidable, really. anything that will make somebody say “tight! now i don’t have to get the guide!” is just a dick move

I agree, and that’s why I respect it. I come from a programming background in school and rule 101 is you can explain how the code works, but straight copy pasting it is a no-no. Still, like you say, it is hard to not post up some information, such as combos for example. There gets to be a point where combos get “optimized” and are the preferred go to combos… IF those just so happen to coincide with the data in the book, it’s somewhat gimping the Chun community by not making that information readily available… I’m sure everyone here REALLY wants to see her take off in tournaments this time around. Regardless, I’ll try my best to find a middle ground between the guide and the needs of the Chun community.

As for the whole Chun/Wesker/Doom (Team Buktooth), I feel that you can get away with Ghost Butterfly assist now. It’s personal preference really…do you like unblockables or combo extenders? I feel that Ghost Butterfly is not a bad assist if you’re looking for a combo extender. You can easily call it, stomp OTG, and pull a hyper/mini combo off the bounce. You’ll get more damage I feel out of the Butterfly assist but with the OTG assist, you’ll get more opportunities to deal damage.

I’m personally still going ot use the gun but again, it’s personal preference. You’re already starting to see players like Masta CJ use GButterfly assist on Wesker as a pseudo get off me/combo extender assist.

Oh and as an aside, Rapid Slash for Vergil pushes the opponent really far back. Like… really far back. I wanna see how reliable it is for pushing the opponent into the corner. I really like it… I just feel weird about having two horizontal assists on my Chun team.

A pretty sick reset I discovered just now. After Chun-Li’s buktooth BnB:
Headstomp OTG, then air grab. (immediately start holding down for SBK)
cancel in to Air Lightning Legs M
cancel into Air Lightning Legs H
cancel into Air EX SBK
land, lighting legs, hyper of your choice.

you built two meters from the Buktooth, BnB, and about half a meter of the air grab juggle. any one-two THCs afterwards should just about kill any character

I’ve seen butterfly assist before, I didn’t know it could really be used a get off of me tool though. You could DHC into phantom dance but that damage isn’t anything to talk about(even if it gets rid of his glasses). In vanilla if you had Doom 2nd you’d get a DHC into sphere flame for some good damage.

As far as safe tags though – DHCing into phantom dance or photon array isn’t that great when you aren’t able to land a hit.

So for my Chun team I was thinking storm/doom-a. Since kick super is invincible you could DHC into hail and be safe if you need to get Chun outta there. Also if you combo into kikoken super you DHC into something that’ll be helpful in adding to the damage. Also I had a silly idea of spamming foul wind(attract move) and calling Chun legs assist.

I’m not trying to say go out and post evrything from the guide, but Frame data, that’s something that should be out their at all avenues and everyone should have the easiest access to it. I actually was abl;e to give the guide a look over at NWM and I’m planning on buying it.

Dude I tell ya, I use chun storm doom and that attract wind and chuns assist is awesome. I tried it a couple of times yesterday and it seems to surprisr people. Hehe

That is indeed an interesting tactic…

So as I thought, Vergil assist will indeed push your opponent into the corner (or damn close to it) on hit/block almost every time and allow you to pressure in the corner. Make of that what you will.

After reading Buktooth comment I decided to delete the frame data to promote instead all of you to buy the guide.

While I don’t think posting a frame data is going to affect the selling of the guide (this guide is too good to buy just for frame data and it has a lot more useful info) I will take out all of it.

If anyone wants to know something specific like how safe is a specific move I can post it but not the entire stuff.

btw I think the frame data should be ok to be posted a month after the guide has been released

thanks. it’s by far the primary feature of the guide, something you can’t get anywhere else. two guys put in a ridiculous amount of hours for several weeks doing nothing but mining frame data for 50 characters; i hope we can all agree that there’s some value behind that

Can you tell me how the invincibility works in the ex sbk?

Just found out I can play Spider-Man & Chun Li in the same team and it will work.

Don’t know if I feel dumb for not realizing it sooner (since after all, both were on the same team for me in Vanilla for ages until I just got fed up with the bad DHC synergy/low damage/no DHC glitch) or happy that I can finally play my two favorites on one team…and it will actually work.

is it just me or is chun faster? specifically, it seems like her superjump airdash got quicker/a lower height restriction… i could test on vanilla but being a bit lazy and wanted to know if anyone noticed as well.

also stupid string that works on standing opponents:

c.m xx j d.m, j.m

crouching m canceled into instant stomp airdash m. combo is easy and does GOOD damage as a starter. folllow with whatever.

Really? I thought she actually felt kinda slow (Did Chun put on a little weight XD?). Maybe cause I’m using Firebrand alot and he’s the king of speed now.
Oh yeah nice combo Dime, it does work often.

Err…why’d this thread get stickied? o.O
