Been running a No Sphere Grid game in FFX. I’ve been enjoying the challenge thus far. I’ve made it past Seymour on Mt. Gagazet. So far, the most I’ve had to do in drastic situations is use an Aeon. No Trio of 9999 yet, but the shit that Rikku allows is definitely more than a godsend in an NSG game.
CC’s battle system is a little weird but it isn’t that bad like I’ve been hearing.
I picked up CC today and played for a few hours. Here are my initial impressions:
-Graphics are really nice. Best I’ve seen on the PSP so far.
-You can skip a summon’s trademark attack, but you can’t skip limit breaks…
-The battle system reminds me of Kingdom Hearts/FFXII. You have an onscreen menu that you use to select your commands. The battlefield is pretty limited, so you can’t move around much. The DMV is wacky…I’m still not sure how it works completely. The DMV is essentially a slot machine that operates on its own as long as you can feed it points. There are all kinds of beneficial effects you can get without making a perfect match. When you match character portraits, sometimes you get these small flashbacks involving Zack and said character whose portrait you matched. One thing you guys might not like is that you can only level up your skills and stats using the DMV, which means that leveling up is random. I don’t know how to influence the DMV to level up faster.
-Combat is random. Enemies will just appear, and you fight them on the spot.
-The music is really good so far. I foresee the soundtrack to be download-worthy (I hope Shadowhaxor sees this).
-I expect to see a lot of squat exercise sightings in the game…I’ve sighted four so far.
It’s a game genie thing. Also, if you try it don’t put it in until you are about to go to Dollet. Any earlier and I think it screws your game up. Don’t remember what happens though. It’s been waaaay too long.
I never got why people do stuff like that. It’s just like a no materia game in 7. Takes all the fun out. I get that you like the challenge, but that sounds like torture. Is Lulu even useful when you play like that? And Auron’s whole awesome “I’m the powerhouse in this game” is kinda ruined when you don’t increase his stats. To each his own I guess.
Yes and no. It’s completely dependent on whether or not you’re using Rikku as well for Trio. Casting multiple low level spells is far easier than casting multiple high level spells, and you can get more of them off. Because of this, she’s useful all the way up until you get Rikku (or until you get the Attack Reels overdrive for Wakka, if you’re high on Blitzball like I am) if you aren’t patient enough to gather status inflicting weapons and whatnot.
As far as Auron goes, he has the most HP out of the entire team, so he’s invaluable until you make it far enough that 1030 is chump change. Also, he’s the most likely to get a weapon that gives him the First Strike capability the earliest, which is also invaluable, since he’ll allow you to get in your turn regardless of whether you were ambushed or not.
Once you level everyone up, your three most useful characters will be Tidus, Wakka and Rikku, anyway.
Am I the only one, though, that sees little to no use for Kimahri at all? I mean, everybody else had their specific uses, and this is necessary to know in an NSG game for the enemies you can handle without extreme measures.
Tidus = Speedy Fiend killer
Wakka = Takes out flyers
Lulu = Elemental killer
Yuna = Summons for tougher fights
Auron = Highest base strength/armor piercing strikes
Rikku = Steal/Use/Mix, highest base speed
Kimahri has good uses with a few of his overdrives early on, sure, but they lose their effectiveness as the game goes on. Hell, most enemies become completely immune to his status inflicting overdrives, and all of his attack overdrives save for Self-Destruct are weak as hell unless he has high stats. Worse yet, if you’re playing normally, the other characters can do everything he does better, anyway.
In an NSG game, yes, Kimahri has little to no use for reasons you’ve mentioned. However, he becomes my thief before I can get Rikku. With a few Luck Spheres and Fortune Spheres that you can pick up along the way, he can steal some rare items along the journey. Where I really like to have him pretty buffed up is the fight against Biran and Yenke. You can steal at least 5 or 6 Lvl 3 Key Spheres, enough so that everybody can get out of their path and start going to other chars’ paths. I believe you can’t get a Lvl 3 Key Sphere before that fight, unless you can get it as a prize for playing Blitzball.
That’s correct. In fact, Blitzball is essential to clearing an NSG run since you can get so much out of it aside from Wakka’s Attack Reels overdrive. The only thing that irks me is that you get whatever items you win in quantities of one, so you have to either A) Play a fuckton of Blitzball, or B) Take a painstaking amount of time to capture fiends for the arena keeper to get 99 of certain ones. Underdog’s Secrets and Dark Matters are invaluable since in an NSG game, since Dark Matters will allow Rikku to do 9,999 a pop, and each of them together (or two Dark Matters, if you so choose) let’s you do Sunburst, which lets you do 19,998 damage to all enemies.
Speaking of, I finished my NSG game today. Once you clear Seymour Omnis, the game is over. Jecht is done for if you have First Strike and Yuna and her Aeons have overdrives, provided you’ve powered them up properly, and every battle against your Aeons and Yu Yevon is set to auto-win mode, since you have eternal Auto-Life from the outset.
Also, an interesting side note about the Biran and Yenke battle is that their strength is equivalent or near to whatever Kimahri’s is at the time. I expected to get my ass kicked, thinking they’d be all powered up, then one hit me and did about 60 HP of damage. Huge sigh of relief from me.
My only wish is that I could get a copy of FFX International. I’d really like to challenge the dark aeons. Also, somebody posted up vids in youtube, showing the fights against the dark aeons in an NSG game. Most of the vids are really long, though.
I’m wondering, has anybody here been able to defeat Yiazmat in less than an hour?
I don’t think it’s possible to beat Yiazmat in less than an hour. I think if you beat him in two, maybe a few minutes under you’re a stud.
FFXII characters don’t do enough damage to cut down an opponent with 1 million HP in less than an hour. Even with the baddest weapons you’re only hitting for 9,999 every now and then.
And don’t forget the fact that your tank will take a ton of damage toward the end of the fight which means someone is wasting a turn literally every few seconds healing.
Actually, it has been done. There are vids of it on Youtube. What amazes me more than somebody beating Yiazmat in an hour is the fact that it can be done in a 122333 challenge.

I tried using this method and I actually beat Yiazmat in under 2 hours. However, I was too LP happy and ended up activating all the licenses before I even got to Yiazmat.
thats pretty damn cool…
That’s pure madness. I would watch it but… it’s 55 mins long!:shake:
Which reminds me: I should go back and finish FFXII.
So I started playing FFIV lately(I’m on a SNES RPG trip:Chrono,Secret of Mana), is FFIV is good FF game? On wiki it has nothing but good reviews and I have been enjoying the game thus far.
Yes, it’s an excellent game.
^^yea its a good game…only snes one i didnt like was 5
V was a great game. It had an awesome expanded job system, and one of the most emotional moments in Final Fantasy history.
I never said it was a bad game…i just didnt really like it. Kinda like how i didnt really like 8…
Well, by saying you didn’t like a game generally means that you don’t consider it to be good, otherwise you would like it.
And 8 was terrible. Most of the new elements added to the game were overly-complex, some forcing the player to engage in even more extremely monotonous activities just to get by, and the story left a lot to be desired (Ultimecia).
I’m conflicted right now. I’ve beaten a good chunk of the Final Fantasy games that i own but VIII. Its like i want to play it but the whole leveling aspect is confusing as hell. I’ve heard people say to not level up alot cause you end up making the game harder with the enemy encounters and the boss encounters.
I mean i’m all up for a challenge but how necessary is leveling in this game?
Are you that bored that u wanna argue over my fuckiin opinion on a old ass FF game?
I said i didnt like “5"
I never said it was wack
"5” isnt one of my favorite FFs…so the fuck what…
everyone has a FF they dont like really…In your case id assume it was “8”
Theres plenty of legitimate reasons why i feel the way i do about 5…but i dont feel like getting into it.
