ubisoft is making a motion based fighter for xbox one. There’s barely any gameplay vids and i can only find some gameplay footage here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUxFr1JN7YY

so uh, shoryuken, whats your thoughts on this game and motion based fighters in general?

Like Motion Based games in general, it doesn’t look very good

Doomed. Motion fighters have such an extreme issue because no matter how hard you try, it will always suffer from limitations in the system to accommodate motion controls. As of now, I’m not sure if Ubi is going to have a list of moves that you can only do per character, of if the characters themselves are just simple avatars and you actually do whatever moves you want. Either way, nobody wants to play motion fighters because they always turn into a sloppy mess rife with input errors, unresponsive gameplay, and a lack of any content beyond the novelty of playing a motion fighter. No survival, no arcade, no trials, and NO OFFLINE MULTIPLAYER. Kinect 1 couldn’t read multiple people for that kind of function, and Kinect 2 is probably going to have issues registering two sets of motion inputs at once, especially if they are going with a free-form command list.

Making a motion fighter that tries to play like a regular fighter is an awful idea. You’re basically just forcing people to use a less responsive and more inconvenient control method. The first person fighter is the only feasible way I can see to do this, and even then it’s more novel than necessary.
