Totally agree with you guys here. I would also add that Garou kinda took the attention away from the rest of the series, with the great graphics and more conventional gameplay. A lot of people just never liked line-switching!

And let’s not forget what Mr. Big has done for us so far. Man, before this thread I had liked Real Bout but never really gotten an interest in it, but now a definite kaillera scene is popping up, and for some people (read: me), that’s the best competition they can get.
Hehe, that’s a relief, X-Static. Maybe I’ll seeya online sometime!
I used to not be a big fan of line switching, and in some of the old Fatal Furies I wasn’t, but I think they finally got it right in RB2. Though I am kind of partial to how they did it in RB Special (aside from any button hitting into the backplane), since it led to some pretty flashy combos, and the first RB (where they had 3 planes, and the ability to knock KO’ed chars into the screen or into the background).
Thanks for the props, Throw! I didn’t think it’d quite take off the way that it did. Here’s hoping that things continue to go strong.
Before I crashed out for the night, I wanted to give a little Christmas present. Nocturnal gave me the heads up of some excellent Japanese RB2 videos on Nicovideo. Unfortunately, since it’s a member’s site and entirely in Japanese, you have to jump threw more than a few flaming hoops just to see the videos.
However, I was able to get a hold of the videos, slice them up into Youtube-friendly sizes and am in the process of uploading them to my account now. Nearly half an hour’s worth of high level RB2 play for your consumption! :wgrin: It’ll take a good while to upload them all so I’ll have to do the proper labeling and organizing into playlists when I wake up tomorrow, but you’ll be able to enjoy them within the hour.
Within the videos you’ll see:
Geese Howard
Franco Bash (plays so much like me that it’s kinda scary , except with less emphasis on mindgames and more on breakshots.)
Jin Chonrei
Hon-Fu
Rick Strowd
Wolfgang Krauser (Reminds me a good bit of God 2.0’s Krauser.)
Billy Kane (perhaps the nastiest Billy I’ve ever seen. :wow:)
Terry Bogard
Has me reconsidering using the Golden Bomber in breakshots more often.
Big thanks for Nocturnal for telling me about the videos and for the JP players at Nicovideo.jp for posting them!
And with that, I’m gonna pass out!
Man…
No one gives Bob ANY love.
Actually, funny that you say that…there’s a Geese vs. Bob match from Nicovideo that I just recently uploaded, though Geese wins and the audio lags for whatever reason. Maybe Youtube just doesn’t like .flv files - I might try and convert it to .avi or something and see if that helps!
Also, Big, that is HILARIOUS - I myself had gotten a Nico account for Melty Blood matches, and was trying to download those RB2 vids and it would never let me do it! Congrats on getting it to work, and many thanks for sharing all of this with us!
I think I may have finally found my main character now, BTW… :bgrin:
-Josh
Also, here’s another possible suggestion:
Start a new thread in Fighting Game Discussion, with links to all the character writeups etc. in the OP. After General Discussion, that’s by far the most widely-read forum on SRK, and they have no problems with individual game threads there; see GGXX, Arcana Heart, World Heroes Perfect, etc. This should definitely help draw the attention of people who tend to forget about this place. =)
Just an idea,
Josh.
That was some pretty good playing by the Bob user. He really kept to his strengths: great jump :snkc: , great low pokes, and big damage off of his combos. Too bad everyone and their dog uses Geese.
I totally feel you on the Geese sentiment. Ughs, once upon a time I used to fight Kim more than any other character, but Geese “Die Forever’ed” his ass and took that title a long time ago. Not in any game before or any game since have I fought Geese so much, and I am absolutely certain it has to do with the flash of his pursuit.
Geese in RB2 relies more on a single move than anyone else in the game: his entire game hinges on landing his Divine Punishment pursuit. Which on one hand is a pretty cool concept and a unique idea, but on the other hand it’s kind of a pain when you’re repeatedly on the receiving end of something that lasts 3-4 seconds every time you get knocked down.
It’s almost like the fighting game equivalent of an unskippable Final Fantasy summon that plays over, and over, and over again…
Hey ,i would say Merry Christmas,to my Rb2 Usa Mates:woot:
Yea its been a while that i’ve played on GW Server, but,
Before i was more near Paris, and now i’m Near Spain (Bordeaux exactly)
and i got a nice bandwitch,but a high ping,cause its not ungrouped,
62ms on reps server (UK),and around 130 on GW,so,
i cant play anymore on usa server,but probably,in January-February
i will return on GW server,because i will get a better connection,cause
i move near paris.
Doh!this is a nice thread with loads of explanations!
better than my combo explanation,in my gone site lol:wonder:
thanks,Josh for link my DM stuff lol:sweat:
I am not the best european player, unfortunately,
i considere that i am the 4th or 5th best,but not much:rofl:
See u Soon Guys!
Even though Geese is my signature character…I’ve stopped used him in RB2 because everyone uses him…
I agree, Divine Punishment takes up way too much time. Not to mention that you also have to sit through the Raisin Storm feint and back :snkb: . Man, you could just take a nap or something every time you get sweeped by Geese.
Annnnnnnnd the holiday spirit continues around here!
There are yet MORE Japanese matches on Youtube now - the link in my sig will lead you to the list of them. Mostly Laurence matches, interestingly enough, and a 3-on-3 of Xiangfei/Franco/Krauser vs. Chonrei/Franco/Hon-Fu.
The best part of it all, though? NO GEESE! Well, except for the one match I uploaded yesterday. =P
Enjoy,
Josh.
Sounds good, Josh! I’ll check those out when I’m a bit more coherent. XD
(Edit: I went and watched those matches anyway, and man, that’s some good stuff! I’d -totally- love, love, love, love to fight Player 2’s Franco: just a hyper-aggressive, toe-to-toe, knockdown drag-out fight rapt with mindgames. It’s the kind of fight I really go for!)
And Yor! It’s been too long since we’ve last played! I’m not sure if you know, there’s a P2P kaillera client now (you can grab it from the first link in my sig). That way you can play even with people in the U.S. with very little lag (God 2.0 and I play regularly, and he’s in Norway).
By the way, ThrowtheDice, we’ve got to play sometime!
Once again courtesy of Nocturnal, he came across a Japanese RB2 site that has a wealth of information. The bad news is that it’s in Japanese, so a good bit is lost in translation. However, there is a very handy piece of information listed for each character: Frame Data!
The character frame data is towards the bottom of the link under the one that says “Profile” (got to love the Engrish the Google Translator creates ).

Ryuji Yamazaki
Jin Chonshu
Jin Chonrei
Duck King
Kim Kaphwan
Billy Kane

Tung Fu Rue

According to this, Chonshu has a 4-frame jab! :amazed: Crazy, crazy. Anyway, I hope this helps all the players out there, young and old! And once again, big ups to Nocturnal for finding this treasure trove of RB2 info!
Actually, I think those are meant to be damage values, not frame data!
Look at what it says for two-hit moves, for example. And some of the numbers are clearly too wacky to be frame data…
EDIT: Frame data moved to new posts.

Well, my upload of the 3-on-3 didn’t go so well!
The original file is a WMV, so I would think splitting it into two WMVs shouldn’t be such a hassle. But apparently, it is!
I’ll probably just stick it on Google Video, along with another single match that Youtube won’t accept for whatever reason.
EDIT:
OK, the better-quality 3-on-3 is here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8416804926564473718
And here’s a match of Hon vs. Billy taken from some other Japanese streaming site: http://video.google.com/url?docid=376376679439108384&esrc=gvmf&ev=v&len=143&q=source%3A13106456719488004224&srcurl=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo.google.com%2Fvideoplay%3Fdocid%3D376376679439108384&vidurl=%2Fvideoplay%3Fdocid%3D376376679439108384&usg=AL29H22hX16AnRrx1SY0oZUCVErk1qgh_g
There’s some audio issues with the single match, not terrible though.
-Josh
Just wanted to say thanks to Soh85! He put the 3-on-3 on Youtube and got the sound right, check it out if you didn’t see my Google upload.
EDIT: OK, time for more startup frames!

Good stuff, Josh. Does Real Bout 2 run at 30 frames per second?
Excellent work, Josh! Man, that language barrier’s a monster. And by the way, the game runs at 60 fps, or at the very least 59.97, which is why it looks choppier and all on youtube (which plays vids at 30 fps).
how come a lot of players don’t use Tung and Bob on youtube and over kaillera? Tung and Bob are my favorite. Tough to learn stuff about them without a good source of videos to watch or matches
I’ll use Tung the next time I record. Far from pro-level, but his moveset is so shallow that I guess most should be able to use him to some extent. Perhaps I can get Ghostpilot to use his Bob as well.
