I have mixed feelings about the game play shown so far. On one hand I love that it’s classic pre RE4 game play with fancy HD graphics and the look is dripping with atmosphere however, when TEM was announced I was expecting it to have some innovative or different game play mechanics because before changing his mind Mikami said it would be “pure survival horror”. So I’m a little disappointed my expectations weren’t met, but I’m still going to cop this for PC for sure.
How are you going to say that when barely anything of the game has been shown yet?
Seriously , lol… at E3 you got to see how you had to sneak to grab a key in a butchers kitchen or whatever it was.
And now you got three 15 second clips that don’t really say alot.
Is that really enough for you to say that you are disappointed with the gameplay?
As for innovative/new mechanics :
- Dynamic AI (will add even more tension than ever before)
- Ability to set up different kinds of traps to damage your foes/pursuers
- Stealth is a part of the game (First time in a game of this genre)
You should read more about the game before posting your discontent.
What do you mean barely? There are 12 minute game play walkthroughs with commentary, granted a game can’t be judged based on a few minutes of game play, but the fact is nothing shown so far was different than what we’ve see of the genre before.
If you consider “dynamic AI” innovative than I guess 90% of games this generation blow your mind That’s an industry buzzword, plenty of games have AI’s that aren’t completely scripted, and you haven’t played many horror games if you think TEM is the first one to have stealth. If traps are a key mechanic like what six machine was talking about then that’s great, that’s innovative because very few games focus on fighting the enemy through environmental set ups, but like I said from what we’ve seen so far it’s classic RE gun play with a new coat of paint…which isn’t a bad thing obviously.
My hype continues to grow for this game. I like everything I’ve seen so far.
Same, I’m more excited for TEM than most other upcoming games, but I’m more excited about what Hines was talking about than the gun play. Being able to kneecap an enemy and then set them on fire, but have them also be faking injury is an amazing idea, that’s the kind of stuff I want to see.
Not to derail this thread but the spiritual sequel to one of the best horror games of all time needs help:
So it’s Psycho Break in JP?
And what’s this about “father of survival horror”?
I could’ve sworn that Sweet Home came out way before RE and Sinji didn’t work on that NES game.
Shinji Mikami popularized the game conventions of what people associate with Survivor Horror.
Bruce Lee popularized his method of fusing different forms of fighting. This still doesn’t make him “the father of MMA”.
Except there are actually a good amount of MMA fighters and within that grouping that DO consider Bruce Lee the father of MMA.
However that’s not an argument that should be gone into. It never ends.
you’re right.
agreeing to disagree.
carry on.
New trailer looks amazing!
next gen as fucc
I don’t know if I could the game by myself.
yeah, I said it.
Got a ghost-teleport broad up in that joint?!
Lights forever on.
I will have like 2 lights on. trying not to change my underwear! :looney:
crossing fingers hoping I don’t play this game like that one scared Japanese guy playing RE2
TEW at eurogamer expo , enjoy!
watching now. gracias
The first monster shown had TERRIBLE AI, it was painful to see the monster look directly at the player twice within 5 feet of him then look away as if he was invisible, and when he finally saw him he took forever to get to him. There’s still a lot of time for polish so I’m sure it will be fixed by release date but if it isn’t that’s going to be a huge flaw. Everything else looked great, I like that the enemies take a lot of bullets to kill.
And  at the player walking into his own mine trap
