The England/UK Thread

This is where I discuss everything I love and hate about this country.

Lets start with the following article. I know most of you live in the US but regardless I’d like to hear your opinions.

So many contradictions in this article lol. I dont necessarily disagree or agree, I’ll give my opinions on it when I have the time.

I like how britan, for all it is, is like a window into the future of america in some aspects.

Other way round isn’t it, Conservatives have been talking about privatising healthcare and even the police.

I’ve noticed that too but that will never happen, the NHS will never be pravatised. If the conservatives did that they’d never win a general election. The one thing that has suprised me is the drama surrounding the gay marraige bill. I’m actually quite shocked that some conservatives are against it. I always thought the UK conservatives were more Libral than the US democrates, but you’d know more about that than I do.

Do you watch 10’ Oclock Live, season 3 has been on for about a month now. David Mitchell did a piece with 3 conservatives on gay marriage (this wednesday gone). Charlie Brooker did a great piece about the Woolwich murder too, both worth watching.

PS. Check out Brooker’s piece on the guns (I think it was episode 1).

I want to move here!

Our doors are always open

I really need to watch this, I’ve recently become quite a fan of Charlie Brooker.

Here’s Brooker talking about the horse meat scandal that hit the UK a few months ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ujbwWZMUrM

I’ve just watched it, out of the 3 conservatives on the panel the gay conservative was the only one against gay marraige, lol. What are your thoughts on UKIP? I can honestly see them winning the next general election.

Lol can’t decide if that was a crack at immigration problems

Ukip? Bnp light? At the moment all parties are whatless…

From what I understand some conservative supporters seem to be in love with Ukip atm because they are meant to be like them but against Europe, since replacing Conservatives with Conservatives v2.01 seems just as shit as not replacing them in the first place, I can’t say I’m too sold on the idea of having them in government.

It was

speaking of the BNP.

Anti-fascist protestors arrested and packed onto London buses following violent clashes with BNP outside Parliament
Far-right and opposing groups planned demonstrations for today
A total of 58 arrests made in London - **all anti-fascist campaigners **

the two bald headed guys wearing suits were the BNP supporters, lol.

The naughty people were moved to a bus. Where I’m guessing they were also charged for not buying a ticket.

I mostly don’t look for current news. Anytime I do it just gives me more reason to believe people are generally assholes. This is my personal preference, but I’m glad the first time I’ve read some news in probably over a few months I’ve seen naughty people sitting on a bus.

OP article is from 2009…

On topic:
As a British Muslim I love every thing about England - the NHS; Education system; culture; tea and biscuits (reminder: need to get back into the tea game!); sports!; wide array of ethnicity and cultures (some people hate that, but I fucking love it!); Laws are taken seriously here (in other parts of the world, you can actually pay the cops…try that shit here and your ass is goin’ to jail, son!); general standard of life is excellent too. In fact, the country is so good, I can actually practice my religion better and to a fuller extent than I can do in my home country! And I don’t have to worry about getting bazooka’d in the face whilst crossing the road either!

What I hate about England, however is…(I know this is what you’ve all been waiting for! I can sense it in you from all the way in the comfort of my own home…the anticipation, the furrowed brows, the gasps of terror and shock as The Muslim speaks his mind! Well fret no longer; here comes the money shot!)
…it’s weather. Rains all the god-damn time. Sun comes out for exactly 3 hours and 16 minutes a week. And it snows…in the middle of fucking Spring!

Anyways, I’ve said my peace. Much love to all and hope you have a nice evening or day.

‘England/UK thread’

I know this isn’t a “Ask an…” thread, but I have a few questions.

Do the majority of you call it England or Britain?

And if I ask, “What country are you from?” would you say “The UK” or one of the former?

If ever I travel abroad, I would most like to visit the UK. Especially England.

Personally I’d say England, it just seems kind of weird to say the UK or Britain instead, like someone from France saying they are from Europe instead of France.
