The Electronic Entertainment Expo thread (E3 2012) Info will be posted in op

That has so little to do with the Unreal Engine.

Wishful thinking. Hell there done with gears right?

An Engine is as good as the developer that works with it. A city that is supposedly ‘lifeless’ in a game that’s powered by Unreal has less to do with the engine and more to do with the company that made the game.

I don’t understand this considering that RDR has less people moving about per square inch than Assassin’s Creed does. Also the goons in Arkham City talk amongst themselves or harrass unlucky people who happened to get pulled into the City. I don’t know what more you expect a goon to do in a large prison.

Edit:

Also yeah it’s UE 4.

For those who haven’t been paying attention to Sleeping Dogs

While were on the wishful thinking frame of thought, how about an unreal championship sequel? Every e3 I pray for a sequel to what I consider the best shooter on the xbox but deep down I know that ain’t never happening. Crying shame, that game was absolutely amazing.

I’ve had the same idea in my head for years, ever since I played the original Star Fox. However, since my idea was tailor made for arcades, I abandoned it when arcades fell off.

It’s amazing that after all these years, no major game company has tried to really duplicate and put their own spin on the gameplay of Star Fox. It’s baffling.

GT put up preview of what to expect during E3 from their channel. Hype!?

Witnessing the Joker’s goons, Penguin’s goons and Two-Face’s goons engage in a cross border territory war, killing each other in the ensuing fight. That’s it really.

I want to observe NPCs interact with both the environment and each other, without any direct influence from me. And when I do decide to intervene there are direct consequences of my actions in the game world.

RDR did a good job trying to create a living world. Bandits attacking towns, saloons getting robbed, people hunting in the countryside, etc. Despite those events being scripted the randomness of them triggering at least gave the illusion of a realistic world. Also consider whenever you commit robbery or murder your notoriety increases and there’s a bounty placed on your head.

Assassin’s Creed games NPCs do nothing except walk around the towns. But AC3 the engine was supposedly overhauled so we’ll have to see how varied the AI is.

Also consider Witcher 2 and Fallout/Skyrim where NPCs follow a day/night cycle or performing menial tasks. Little things like that is what makes a game world realistic.

Game’s with lifeless worlds are not necessarily bad games, they can be great. They just aren’t very immersive to me, at all.

If devs want to make an action game next gen where you go around shooting and blowing shit up they’ll use UE4. But I don’t see any open-world sandbox or RPG utilizing it.

Again, UE has very little to do with any of that.

It should be. Creating better AI should be a primary focus in gaming moving forward, not visuals.

AI is interesting, because what it really entails is figuring out how to make the CPU not look like it’s cheating by placing restrictions on it. So by advancing AI, you add more restrictions by hiding what the CPU is capable of doing (namely, breaking the game).

If it comes around again, you guys should take the free Stanford University course on A.I. You will learn a lot, including just how hard A.I. is and how difficult and unfeasible a lot of the things we desire to see from it really are.

Some of my classmates took that course the last time it was offered. I understand that it didn’t really focus on game AI, but you could still learn something from it.

It’s a general course that could be applied to a variety of applications. Most of the course work was finding the shortest route around obstacles, etc. I want to take a course on sensors now. That’s what really makes AI shine.

Bungie Not at E3

no learning about Destiny at E3 this year

Wii U is the final name of Nintendo’s next system

disappointment…oh well guess we can make fun it for the next 2 years.

Man…this E3 is gonna be shit. No one’s gonna be there.

This game looks soooooooooo good. It takes the best from GTA and Yakuza and makes solid gold, was never a fan of GTA but as a Yakuza fan I am hyped. What is even better is the game has a PC release so I might go for that version. Love the game of death costume and the fact that it buffs stats rofl.

Huh, that’s what happened to true crime.

Yes this game rose out of the remains of the canceled True Crime: Hong Kong game.
