USF4 has been out for a while and I have gotten a fair time in playing Gen in this iteration and I must say I am a bit disappointed
So here is my current overview of Gen in this iteration
-With improved stun it is a little harder to stun Gen now, but the low health he has doesn’t really make this buff to be felt because usually you get stunned earlier and you possibly have a chance to eek out a come back but now when you are stunned you are kinda dead anyways.
-crane cr.jab and roll buff has given Gen a way to pressure the opponent but only viable if the opponent likes to push buttons. the good side is that you will land alot of counterhit combos this way but the cons is that there is really not much Gen can do after this to maintain his pressure. For me the goal is just to put your opponent in that corner position and then keep them there as much as you can
-the focus attack buff is not as bad as I thought and Gen is still tied with evil ryu and vega in focus attack ranges and with a kara will still give Gen the longest focus attack range in the game
-the shitenketsu glitch to me is still not good, any ultra that depends on my opponent to be viable is really not what Gen needs, vs a teleport and DP character or one with a good backdash converting this damage is going to be very difficult. so I still stick with ultra 1 for all match ups
-the wakeup bug and the focus attack on wake up fix is hardly noticeable for me.
-The thing that bothers me alot is the mantis cr.Jab change, although with double plink I got the timing back but this means that edition select will be a tad uncomfortable.
-the nerf to super has mad me think of using meter for other things but I still like super to ultra lol especially after oga.
Gen feels a little less capable in this version and although you will still win with him but fighting competent enemies have become a lot harder.
maybe with more testing and lab stuff things will get better
i must say i see things differently Gen has lost many vital things but he is a character that can stun quickly now thx to U2 the thing behind it is to use it as an ender (you do U2 and your opponent is stunned,you get a free combo and your grey damage).but in order to do so he needs meter 1 bar for ex gekiro knockdown if he can link mp hands > U2 , 2 for ex hands.of course having more (generally 4 bars) can give you more options
add to that the need to react to delayed wakeup(whiff st lp) and you have ,as you said, a harder to play version of gen
so far , i have these setups for 1000 to 1050 stun(1 jumpin,1 mixup,1stun combo)
cr lk > cr lp >TC2 >hands FADC mp>TC2>ex geikiro
1 jmk TC2 ex hands U2 1000 stun
2 crlk crlp TC2 ex hands U2 982 stun
j hp>mp TC2 lk gekiro 4 hits > xup oga > U2 1000 stun
for this one if you have 100% U2 and super(very very impractical) , a 1000 hp character is dead just do crane jHP>super>hk gekiro
j hp>mp TC2 ex gekiro =>jmk TC2 ex hands(mp hands) U2 1050 stun
jhp>cr mp>hp jaysen RFDC throw(to corner) fakecross mk > TC2 > ex hands U2
for some setups,you don’t need U2 at 100% to stun so good to know if your opponent has 1000 stun (like ryu)
i mostly see these against shotos as you can get a jumpin of them
these are surely not all practical but that my vision of things i wanted to share with you experts,so fell free to provide me with guidance peace

The only issue I have with that is that Gen needs to land 2 mixups to get that stun going and also spend alot of resources, while other characters need only one setup to make things work.
but there is hope. besides Gen can still stun in 2 combos with U1. (underground tech lol) but its not so viable YET

no he needs only one mixup if you get a jumpin j hp>mp TC2 ex gekiro (mixup cross or not)jmk(crane or mantis) TC2 ex hands(mp hands) U2 1050 stun as an example
but yeah you have to get the jumpin and that’s not easy except on shotos…and to be honest i did not test that in real fights yet so hhhh theory fighting
