The DHC Trick - Damage & Hit-Stun Scaling Reset

Tested Dorms stalker flare with Jill raven spike and trons beacon bomb. worked for both of them. Damage scaling was reset on the stalker flare. Definitely right about it having to leave his hands.

Edit: Also tested Hyper Mystic Smash, its a Special State DHC. Damage scaling was reset after tron’s beacon bomb.

Is this still working after the latest patch?

Yeah, it looks like they haven’t changed anything discovered in the last 3 weeks or so.

I imagine with Stalker Flare it’s not about where it is in relation to Dormammu when it hits (per se), but more about the fact you need to hit the person when they are falling for the damage to get reset… which would likely mean it has moved away from Dormammu to have that happen. It’s probably a non-issue with Trish, since her move starts much lower to the ground. I know that doing a DHC into Hsien Ko’s Chireitou has a similar issue, where if the first sword immediately hits, the scaling is NOT reset, but if they are allowed to fly up and land on the swords coming down, it works fine.

My team is wolverine/morrigan/storm. I know I can get the dhc reset to work but dont really understand the trick lol can someone explain in noob terms

Combo with Storm into DP+PP. DHC to Wolverine with dd+PP. All damage will be reset… so your follow-up Wolverine combo will do full dmg! If you can find a consistent combo with Morrigan’s doppleganger, you could use that as well.

^the stuff is big money. not against all opposition and its def not a game breaker but Storm/Wolvie have easy execution DHC glitch combos that are actually net positive on meter and 900k+.
enjoy it before they wack it with the nerf bat

awesome thanks…to the danger room!

Have you managed to quantify the amount of hit stun that is reset ? I find this very strange. After an empty Tron DHC Glitch to HSF, you can’t do S jH 214S jLH, H whiffs, but you can do it after a normal HSF ! It’s just a partial reset ? A 50% reset like a L cancel in Smash ? I’m very curious to know the exact mechanic behind this hit stun partial reset.

^it actually sounds like you could be on your way to figuring out an answer. Why not continue doing similar experiments and take note. Soon enuf a pattern may arise that will give us the answer.

^has anyone tried to incorporate this trick into there DHC resets. It doesnt work for my team Wol/Storm/Sent but if it works for anyone seems it would been pretty damn powerful.

I did some tests on DHC resets and the results are in my hit stun decay thread.

From my starting tests, it looks like most of the DHC trick resets leave a frame’s worth of hit stun decay. Elemental Rage, Weapon X Prime, Raven Spike, and Mighty Punish all added one. Cutting Time (which I honestly didn’t do a lot of tests with) seemed to not have any.

So, just to clarify, does this work with ANY non-hitting hyper? For example, if I felt like spending 4 meters could I use Weapon X Prime DHC into Jill’s Mad Beast? Not that I have any idea how to use Mad Beast or anything, but it could be nice to know at some point.

Just verified that Weapon X Prime into Mad Beast works.

It isn’t really that the hyper doesn’t hit, it’s that the hyper doesn’t hit until the opponent goes into the spinning falling animation. If you whiff some hits, the start up is slow enough, or it takes long enough to reach the opponent, it can still trigger the glitch. In fact, Machine Gun Spray seems to start slow enough to make the glitch work and I can get 42 hits of it at 235,400 damage off of Weapon X Prime, but I could only get it to work when I didn’t do a combo before hand. Also, kind of hilariously, I can DHC from Raven Spike into Elemental Rage and, because it takes a little while for them to fall into the ice block, the damage gets reset on the Elemental Rage. The timing is pretty strict on the DHC to get them to fall into the block properly, though. When I’m midscreen going from Jill to Zero, I go with Rekkoha instead of Sougenmu and Rekkoha takes plenty of time to come out, so it gets glitched damage, too. It works with Taskmaster’s upward Legion Arrows, too.

Some of these DHCs are really timing/spacing dependant, though, so if you want a guarantee, a non-hitting hyper works best.

Hey Trag! Thanks for all this.

Small error - Dante’s QCF+H~QCF+H special is actually called ‘Grapple’. ‘Hysteric’ is the special without the followup!

Thanks a ton Cauldrath!

Can you DHC into Modok’s hyper body attack and wiff it by not mashing? I did this using Jill’s hyper first, not sure if it works completely but I got the spin.

Yes, that works. I was able to connect a launcher afterwards at 80,000, so you can get a full air combo.

Also, I basically copied trag’s OP into the wiki, changed Hysteric to Grapple, and added Rekkoha, Hyper Battering Ram, and Mad Beast to the list of DHC enders.

So best team in terms of DHC trick abuse would involve the following:

  1. Can start and end the DHC trick
    a. starts easily off a combo (e.g., not Thor’s grabs which are arguably difficult to connect)
    b. works reliably (e.g., not like Ammy’s throw xx DHC which can be difficult to DHC into since opponent ends up across the screen)
    c. follow-up DHC can do damage (e.g., not like Tron’s king kobun which doesn’t do much damage compared to Wolverine or Sentinel coming in)
    d. Start or follow-up doesn’t require 3 levels
  2. Is a good character
  3. Is a good assist

How many characters is that? Ones I can think of off the top of my head:
Top tier for DHC trick:

  1. Dante
  2. Wesker (his DHC starter sucks, but his assist is too good and everything else about him is just sick)

Next tier:

  1. Ammy (hard to start DHC, but she’s so good as a character that she might be up there with Dante and Wesker)
  2. Tron (good assist, but can’t do much damage off as you DHC into her (limited to dp+pp))
  3. Sentinel (good character and assist, but hard to start DHC)
  4. x-23 (requires level 3 follow-up)
  5. She-hulk (requires level 3 follow-up)
  6. Haggar (not that great of a character?? though his assist is good)
  7. Wolverine (good character, but can’t start a DHC)
  8. Taskmaster (good character, but can’t start a DHC)
  9. Phoenix (good character, but can’t start a DHC and needs 5 meters for Dark Phoenix)

Just trying to filter through the DHC trick and see what is the best bang for the buck. It’s also quite interesting how many of the above 11 characters are used in tournaments (some recent tournament with JWong was his team of She-hulk/ammy/tron).

You may have over looked Wol and Sent here.

^ These statements dont make sense to me. I use Wol and Sents DHC glitch combos out of Elemental Rage and they both allow for launch combos post DHC and huge damage (1030k for Storm/Wol) and (800k for Storm/Sent). These Damage values are without any follow up hypers post DHC, which are very easy to set up.
Your lead in combo should build at least 1bar so these DHC tricks should only cost you ~1bar of hyper meter.
