The Dead or Alive 4 Thread

But yes, I think the main thing here is that the game doesn’t really turn people off, it’s the community. Hopefully we can start changing that for the greater good. Or you could always press forward onto newer and greater things to represent DOA respectfully.

++.

The same way you play Twelve in 3S and Robo Ky in /.

Tekken sells at least one million in America per-installment. How many of those people do you think are playing it in tournies? How many of them do you think have heard that Dark Resurection exists? How many of them do you think call their opponents cheap when they lose? How much different do you think Tekken is from DOA in that?

If you think that DOA has a higher percentage of fighting scrubs playing it than Tekken…then you just need to find the closest bridge and jump off it with a rock shackled to you.

There aren’t many discussions about the game on DOA Central because DOA is online, so people are on XBOX Live kicking ass and taking names.

I disagree, when the creator of a game franchise purposely overpowers a certain slew of characters I.E. Ninja’s. Simply to make them look cool, there is no reason for me to trust that things will get better. Your entitled to your opinion, and I don’t wanna de-rail this thread. That’s just how I see it, I don’t play games to support franchise. Instead I support franchises because I believe they will make good games.

And not travelling, or doing locals, or playing seriously… Keep watch SRK, this is what no arcade and with online play does to a community.

As for Ninjas, they are top tier, but it’s pretty obvious that they’re not overpowering if you have a good defense on your side. There are safer and faster and stronger characters in this game, but the Ninjas do have a lot of specialized tricks.

For instance, hate to bring this up PL, but Helena has been known to win tournaments. So have other characters believed to be inferior to Ninjas in general. A Bayman player of all people has placed top at several DOA tournaments as well. Perfect Legend did most of both evos with Gen Fu, and some matches with Jann Lee. Spartans and Zacks have won tournaments as well. A couple more examples here. Offbeat Ninja, an EIN player won WCG Worlds 2006, amongst plenty of Hayabusas and Kasumis. Majin Kimimaro won the Texas Open 2 with Leifang having to face off against several Hayabusas to get there. The 2nd placed player in that tournament was again Offbeat, an Ein player. In my opinion, Ninjas are simply just great at scrub busting. They tear through poor defenses quite well. Any scrub buster can be seen as overpowering until you know how to defend against it. To any scrub, Tengu in DOA4 seems unbeatable. Enough said right there.

Yeah, seriously. All four ninjas are at LEAST mid-high tier, but are by no means unbeatable.

But don’t worry about what fighterguy says, XDest…he’s a joke account.

Try again I do believe

I don’t know about you man but Jin has been #1 in every tekken since Tekken Tag followed by Heihachi.

So what is that saying the developers purposely overpowering “a certain slew of characterS” I. E. Mishimas.

Tekken Tag = Mishimas = Top Tier
Tekken 4 = Mishimas = Top Tier but it also included Steve and Nina right?
Tekken 5 = Steve, Nina, Bryan, Devil Jin, Feng, Heihachi, Ganryu and last I heard Devil Jin was #2 in 5.0.
Tekken DR = There is a big debate between who is #1 Devil Jin or Heihachi but alot more agree Devil Jin is #1 and Devil (Jin) is Jin

And in this post I am not knocking Tekken I am just bringing something to light.

Also as far as ninjas go in DOA4

They do have their bullshit but trust me they are hard to use effectively. Like people constantly say Kasumi sucks because she sucks at punishing however she is being used ineffectively. Kasumi is more of a defensive character as opposed to being all offense its alot better for her to turtle and force people to come in on her since shes the fastest char in the game its easier for her to intercept instead of rushdown because the lack of normal hit stuns she has or and knockdown and not to forget her unsafety even though she “could” use string manipulation but the problem with that is she can become very predictable because she doesn’t have much string manipulation like say Hitomi does she just has pure speed going for it.

Hayate is more so a long ranged offensive pressure character but he may look like a turtle but hes not. Hes probably the character in DOA who is most like a Mishima as far as playstyle. Like you have a High that is + and then you have these mids and this low out of this dash and you can also teleport but if you make the wrong guess you could get punished pretty bad and the dash requires really good spacing to actually use effectively cause its pretty easy for people to run up to you and close the distance unless you are Ayane who has a superior spacing ability with her spins and her attacks that help her space pretty well like down-forward free+kick.

Hayabusa however he is like Hayate but he has to be alot more trickier with his ninpo and when he is in close has to either constantly be baiting for Izuna’s or launching people in the air and performing untechable juggles to get the okizeme to make people guess and either pull off izuna’s I relaunch them into the air and loop.

Oh, I still believe they’re top tier, it’s pretty obvious.

But it’s not overpowering, the tiers are closer to each other then they seem.

To a player with a lesser defence, a lot of characters can seem overpowering, actually. Especially characters with a fast launcher on counter blow. For example, a scrub will always fall right into a 4K from Ein, because they simply keep attacking. Ein’s 4K is punishable on block by the opponent’s best grab. Correct poking also stops this sort of thing. I mean, against a scrub, a Tengu could just do 2PP all day. Even though it’s completely unsafe, 90% of the DOA population will still fall for it, and not punish or even block it. There are several scrub busting options in DOA to simply kill a masher dead in his tracks, and make the scrub scream cheap all over the place, heh.

Oh, they’re all definitely way up there. Depending on the tier lists, though, they end up below various other non-ninja characters. Though Hayate and Hayabusa are pretty much unanimously top tier, Ayane and Kasumi both sometimes get placed below Ein/Gen Fu/Jann Lee/Zack/Lei Fang/some others. All four are up there, though. But they aren’t all DEFINITELY tops…atm…imo.

A few years down the line, though, who knows?

But the important part is that all four of them are entirely beatable.

The top 4 are the ninjas lol.

Hayabusa, Ayane, Kasumi, Hayate

That’s entirely possible :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, take it from us. We’re the people that usually make up the DOA tierlists in the first place.

In terms of lists, just stick with the masterfile one. It has always seemed the most accurate going off of hard fact.

Well, I’ll take your word for it, then.

But yeah, am I all alone as a Bayman player? I’ve played hella lotta DOA4, and I’ve only met one other person who actually had Bayman as his main.

Rikuto is pretty much the only one I know of.

Here is the Masterfile’s Tierlist

  1. Ryu Hayabusa, Ayane
  2. Kasumi, Hayate
  3. Gen Fu
  4. Lei Fang
  5. Spartan-458, Tina
  6. Eliot, Bayman, Helena
  7. Kokoro, Brad Wong, Zack
  8. Leon, Jann Lee, La Mariposa
  9. Christie
  10. Ein
  11. Hitomi, Bass, Tengu

Erm…Brad Wong above Ein, Hitomi and Jann Lee?

This is solid numbers.
