Since literary tools like implication and inference seem to have no place in this thread, here’s what happened:
At some point prior to the events in DKR, Superman and Green Arrow fought, presumably over their diverging views on how to deal with the increasingly authoritarian government. Green Arrow got his ass kicked and lost an arm for his trouble.
You will not find this in any previous story because DKR, at the time, existed independently of the continuities of other books. You are meant to understand what happened from hints and allusions in the scene with Oliver in Wayne Manor. This scene fills multiple functions, including setting up Oliver’s motivation for helping Bruce and foreshadowing the level of danger Bruce will be in when he inevitably confronts Superman.
This past event is never spelled out, but is instead left to the imagination, because DKR is a case of an (at the time) intelligent writer doing a story for intelligent readers.

Part 1&2 of the movie were all just one comic “Dark Knight Returns”.
There is a sequel called “Dark Knight Strikes Again” and there is no plan to animate it yet.
Save the superiority for the dumb dumbs you deal with elsewhere. Mofos here are saying it’s because of a plane crash when in the movie it sounded like Superman ripped that arm off to stop him from firing arrows and being a superhero.
Hal as Paralax if I remember right. I don’t think he had atoned for his crimes yet. Back when Hal could alter time and really fuck things up. Different story arc. Superman litterally had seconds and if I remember it boiled down to if someone wasn’t there the bomb would go off also in this plain it was a trap and solving traps outside of strong arming them was never Supes strong point so the easiest path would have been to cut off the arm and save him God that original run was a long time ago but it was some kinda trap if I remember right. It boiled down to leave the arm bomb goes off plane no more Supes saves his life. Green Arrow likes his arm doesn’t want to be Arsenal So he says FU supes leave me and my arm I’m going out a hero. That was literally all the time there was for that debate. Superman didn’t even have time to react. Shock registered on his face and the plane exploded safely away from the city with Green Arrow in it.
It was pretty epic and really showed what kinda character Green Arrow really was and the limitations of Superman, he was powerless. It was a very human moment for Superman.
Nah, no part three. Part two Dark Knight wasn’t as good (Book wise) But I really enjoyed seeing all of the other Metas and how they got put in thier place in the Luthor run world. Plastic Man scene was probably my favorite along with Hal Jordan. Oh and of course Wonderwoman Supes gettin it on. Reminded me of Moon Raker Scene at the end, “Oh James take me around the world one more time.”
Yeah Miller just worked in what was currently happening into main line continuity So Dark Knight is a really well done What If? Comic for DC.
