The tourney was okay, it was good to finally see some people in person but to get there and have to wait damn near 7 hours to play AE in pool b was not the business. I had to roll out and not play because of other issues that went on. I would have stuck around a bit longer and waited but that heat drained me. Also it was fun playing that ST with the folks there. I know one thing I will most likely go solo next time.
3s was fun as hell at Civil War.
Glad I donât care about the new games.
It was fun for me, but having to play AE at like 11 was pretty lame. >.< Robin will get it together, he seems really solid at running events and stuff. It happens to everyone.
Road to evoooo
EDIT: And I forgot⌠sadly robin told me to run 3s after AE and MVC3 so I just decided not run it because I knew that was him telling me politely that it wont happen. Bummer too because I would have done really well. xD
Almost all the tournies ive been in Robin has done a good job with running them. Surprised this one didnt go so well. Felt like the pools were random as hell it felt like all the best in md were in one and all the best in va were in the other. I dont know if this is the norm for fighting tournies cause I know in smash they really try hard to seperate regions from playing one another.
Regardless I did have a fun time. I wish we coulda had more time for friendlies.
Nah its the same in SF. You usually check the brackets and make sure stuff like that doesnât happen. I donât know why it did, I mean I could understand a few mess-ups because how pretty much most if not all of VA/MD was there but it did look like there was too much VA v VA and MD v MD.
Canât wait for next year when they have a real venue for a major.
Magman lost to Rugal B outside Top 8 AE in losers. Donât know who he lost to in winners.
MvC3, he was the guy I repeated 3 times on. First game was 2-0 him, but was âinvalidatedâ because apparently I got a win over someone I hadnât even played. I played that match and won, and they had me play him again, which I took 2-0. Since we were 1-1 overall we both felt it was fair to run it back one last time and I took it 2-0. I believe he lost to Andrew Miller from the NoVA group in losers, just outside top 8 for MvC3.
I think it was just a fluke that the Strange Matter tournament happened the way it did. That and having all those damn people show up, which is a good thing donât get me wrong. From what I heard there was enough equipment and what not just kinda some bad luck.
It really came down to the fact that I got double the turnout I expected. 1st civil war had 52 for sfiv, 2nd one had 42 for ssfiv, this one had 100 for mvc3 alone. I was in London for 16 days, we had 50 RSVPs when i left, and it grew from 70 to 140 during the week of⌠I canât change the venue that late.
I tried some strategies to mitigate the crowd, namely the two pools. Having one early so the tourney could actually roll and one late to accommodate out of town players. Did it work? Honestly, yes. We got started within 30 minutes of my planned start time and finished AE pool a in like 2 hours. It also kept folks not in that pool away from the machines and what not.
Some problems cropped up though. The basing pools on arrival time skewed the pool balance. Pool in both games had less people and was relatively easier. It also increased the likelihood of playing your buddy, thanks to tonamento! However if avoiding the bracket of death makes peop,e more likely to show up on time⌠Iâm all for it.
It Also changed the problem âI had to wait 5 hours between matchesâ to âI had to wait 6 hours for my first matchâ
I offered a solution to finish the tournament at my house, which many players were staying at anyway. It was only 10 blocks away. The players wanted a split. It was either go with that or start dqing people and really pissing people off. The primary cause of the split was that of the players that were heavily favored to keep top 3, only one was against an equal split. Obviously players that just barely made top 8 were happy to get any money.
I learned several lessons, and one is that I canât rely on volunteerism for an event this size. Setups didnât always have the content needed, were on lcds that people didnât like, and magically disappeared as soon as their owner was eliminated. Iâm lucky I brought 4 crts and systems with me.
lol its like in elementary school when you take your ball with you when you get beat or not picked at all.
GGs to everyone I played at the tournament. It was cool to actually meet some of you guys, but I wish we had some real time for casuals and so on. This being my first big tournament experience, I didnât know exactly what to expect, but it was fun and I had a good time regardless of the issues that occurred. No doubt it had itâs hype moments. This just makes me want to travel and come out to more tournaments down the line. But first I gotta get my shit straight and learn how not to get blown up on stream so easily lol.
Shoutouts to all the people that made it out. Looking forward to the next one.
I was about to say, it seemed like you guys had too many people for a venue that small.
Next year itâll be a hotel tourney. At least I was in the Top 8 for MvC3, and I nearly got Top 8 for AE (In it for the money Vivaldi took me out). Steve was doing strong in both.
Anyone watch the stream? I wonder what people said about my team when they saw it.
Edit: The stream it was held on
No one here would happen to be going to FOSE, would they? Kind of excited to meet Steve Wozniak.
Also, practice practice practice week. Whoâs playing and where? The closer to Alexandria the better. Hopefully we have our Xan training session this weekend.
We know you did your best. I blame the people that knew they are going and failed to pre-reg sooner. Pure laziness on the part of gaymers caused this but thats what you get from kids these days.
didnât he say that everyone who did pre-reg did it the week of, so he couldnât do anything about the venue regardless?
I woke up on the drive home from the tournament because I was hitting a concrete wall. Good shit to tournaments lasting that long then me falling asleep at the wheel. Nobody died.
edit:
I fell asleep on 495 driving home and hit a concrete barrier. Good shit. RyRy and me are fine, car not too badly damaged at all considering. Could have been worse.
I was kinda dozing off on the way back until I saw a car on the concrete median that would have been me if I didnât stay awake. Ambulance was pulling a sheet-covered body away.
Sucks about your new car. Hopefully it wonât cost a limb to get it fixed and it doesnât smell to bad after scaring everyone inside it shitless.
Itâs just cosmetic damage, II was going to buy new wheels anyway. Easially could have been me and RyRy under that sheet, though. Protip: sleep at Robinâs house.
Yeah⌠we were kinda fucked up because Vivaldi was in Super Top 7 and Shin Oni had a job interview at 8 am the next day. I had tried sleeping in the car after I got knocked out of AE but it wasnât happening. I consider myself super lucky.
That sucks dude glad you are ok. I was feeling the same way coming back from ECT but my buddys keep me going
Damn sorry to hear that Strogg.
Glad you guys were okay though, hopefully the costâs wonât be too bad.
