The D.M.V. (DC_Maryland_Virginia)

does anyone know where i can save some money on some smart trip metro cards?

…it begins.

Finally got home at 6 am from the fucking Richmond tournament.

I wish the results were up already. That’s the one thing I would do the day or a day after.

Who got top 3 in each game?

In short, neither AE nor Marvel finished. They split Top 8 each game. Not going to get into what happened right now, let’s just say I had to wait 10 hours for my first match in AE.

Wow. My recent flaking is really working out for me. Dodging bullets out here.

Anyone trying to play today?

whaaaaattt? wooww I don’t feel so bad anymore.

Yes. Possibly

There was no top 8 it was like a 7 way split in both games. Robin is catching heat on it. As a friend of his I did the best I could to help him the whole day. With running the stream and calling matches from 3 till it was almost over. Pool b for sf4 didn’t start till 1030 pm. Half the people only wanted xbox other half wanted ps3. The venue couldn’t handle that many people in there. And it went downhill from there. All he needs is a new venue and it will get better.

I’m down. I’ll bring an extra ps3.

damn…

Also every player that was good in the same pool for both games doesn’t help either. People that cake with each other were in the same pool, which is a tourney big no no. I’m going to say that its something that should never happen. Something robin should have fixed as well to the other major stuff that happened. But robin has run a lot of good events for a long time and every now and then you get a bad one. He can make it up.

yeah you gotta have people in pools that can plow through a couple players, instead of the best playing long matches because they are clutch, and the worst playing long matches because they can’t do damage.

The Richmond tourney was my first big one (this is Mike P by the way), and … well, I suppose I don’t know how to feel about it. I guess I’m sort of happy with how things went, because I believe I was fairly close to making top 8 in Marvel, which never should have happened, because I’m bad, but there was a lot of negative stuff which sort of soured the whole experience. The brackets kept getting fucked up; DJ Huoshinapfe had to play the same guy three times because of that, and I got matched up against Promethius and then halfway through my game with him, they told me to stop because I ACTUALLY had to play someone else instead. There were some other issues, but those were covered by other posters (long wait times for matches, some of the tvs might have been super laggy, etc.).

I guess I made this post because I was going to ask: is this shit the norm? Are most big tournies like this? I complained about some of it in chat, and some guy responded with, ā€œWelcome to fighting game tournies.ā€ If that is the case, I might just stick to getting blown up at Xanadu.

The simple answer is yes and no Mike. Also you drove down with laijin and you had to play him first round which is never supposed to happen. Ever… I did the best that I could to try to salvage stuff. But at the end of it. It wasn’t my event, but robin has run tons of great events. That a lot if players have been to. I’m sure his next one will be great.

Almost all tourney players know ahead of time that it never starts on time. It may be some little things here and there cause we are all human but stuff usually comes together and the experience is enjoyable. Try to go to summer jam next month, and talk to me or hav or Steve or any player that has been to majors so you can get a idea on what to expect and so forth.

All tournaments have their little issues. Most start a little late. Some organizers are douches… others are grifters. I’m surprised to hear Robin had such issues, because he is, in all honesty, one of the Top 5 organizers in the scene, IMO. He has fresh ideas, he looks at things critically, and he gets things done in a timely manner.

That being said, nobody is perfect, and if Robin had issues this time, I’m sure he’ll use that experience to make next time better.

Don’t let one bad experience sour you on everything though. That’s silly.

It wasn’t all bad.The food was good, the waitress was nice, they had Xbox setups (the first tournament I ever been to that had them) and the free play machines made the time go by better (I wished the Puzzle Fighter cabinet was freeplay :frowning: ). I think a better venue would have made it more manageable. The place was mad hot, the bathrooms were unsanitary, and the space was kinda small for the hundreds of people that came to compete.

did magman get top 8 in any game? or free?

once you realize fighting game tourneys dont go smoothly you kinda forget about it and get used to it. hell in fact it was never a problem for me even at my first major. you just gotta worry about your match and do your best.

like others i am suprised this happened to robin. only really expect this from an ect or some shitty tournament like… ect. but he has ran lots of smooth tourneys so he is indeed allowed one. hes earned it.

While shit was kinda bumpy everywhere, I had fun. I don’t like how brackets turned out and how brackets were ran. But I can’t really complain. I didn’t do shit.

I wouldn’t let this small experience turn you away from majors or the bigger tournaments. Things don’t always go smoothly but you do get experience that you generally don’t see outside your state or at xanadu. They’re generally fun experiences in the long run. To be honest, you should’ve been in top 8 if just for the reason people didn’t respect or pay attention to Haggar. Not at all your fault if your opponent doesn’t adapt. Though this same thing happened to you from the 2 guys you did lose to. (ironically Haggar assist which gave Skrull trouble getting in).

Though IMO, you should have your order team be Skrull/Haggar/Task. So at least Haggar isn’t doing nothing but piping his way in and relying on lariat for lucky hits/quick escapes. At least then he has Task arrows to help him get in or at least force the opponent to jump for an air grab.

Also don’t pay stream monsters any mind majority of the time.

Have I been dupped? Def first one here.

Who wants to beat me up in AE?

Great job to everyone at Civil War yesterday.

Was hot as hell, but had a great time. Next stop, EVO!
