The "Currently Playing" Game Thread-Discuss Your Games, Vent, Give Props, etc

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeahhhhhhhhh, I passed it over to play X-Men Legends. I’ll go back for MMXCM next week.

Been playing it for a while, its the most fun game I’ve had in years. Just absurd in every sense of the word, and funny to boot. The art direction with both the game and the associated website (see: wallpaper / screensaver / origami section) is ingenious, it proves you don’t need to be fancy to look good.

Rolls over School Principal with a giant ball of bicycles and telephone poles … "Detention! Detention for you! flails limbs wildly

Also yeah, Phantom Brave. Well worth it too.

It doesn’t seem like too many Viewtiful fans post here, and apparently there is no more search function, so I’ll post my VJ update:

Rainbow V Challenge = Currently working on stage 3. Part of the reason it’s taking so long…besides the difficulty…I just haven’t been playing any games recently. Of course, my game-playing has picked up now since there is no more home-internet access for me.(*at the library now) But yeah…I FINALLY made it past the bus segment with a rainbow v after what seemed like forever. I had to look at the faq on that one, and my guess about it being the yellow box was right. Still, it was tough to hit the box and still make it onto the bus, since Captain Blue only has 1 jump. Surprisingly, there IS time to jump, hit the box, and do another jump to get on the bus!

However, I either didn’t have enough VFX or didn’t time it right with the ramp…and the bus ended up in the pit…good thing Captain Blue can fly! I flew over the rest of wht way…worried that this screwed up my Rainbow ranking…but there it was: V,V,V! I already was celebrating victory over stage 2 when I still had the helicopters and all of Hulk’s hotel to go…but it’s really easy to score rainbows on the helicopters, and I had gone thru the hotel with all rainbows before(*practice run to see how it was…I messed up and got an “A” somewhere earlier, and just kept going to try out the rest of the stage.)

Hotel part was a surprisingly easy rainbow V…and on my first rainbow-attempt at Hulk = success! I just stuck to my most recent pattern of high dodge --2 slowzoom punches–dodged Hulk charge, 3 punches while he’s dizzy. I knew that if you hit him too much by the wall, then he calls the missiles and sets the room on fire, which extends the length of the fight, and would pro’ly knock my time rank down.

First part of stage 3(Six Machine) = rainbow on first try…
but the 2nd half seems more problematic though…that’s where I am now.

-I also started up a Rainbow Challenge journey with Joe…he’s currently at Stage 2. Stage 1 is easy to me now, and only took 2 tries with Joe.

*I bet the train level will be a bitch though. (especially the part where I have to jump FAST to catch the train in the first place!)

edit*–sidenote = I definitely encourage all Viewtiful Joe fans to at least try the Rainbow V challenge now! As good as it looks just playing the game for fun…you look even MORE viewtiful and stylish…and Legendary when you’re playing for Rainbow V ranks! When you get it right, you’re really left with a HUGE feeling of accomplishment, and it looks so good you’re thinking “damn I wish I got that on tape!”

Your dad plays games too? Heheh awesome, parents that play games is almost rare. Well I can’t say that though, my late mother was a Tetris and Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine addict. One funny memory about her gaming is I actually watched her beat the first two stages of Final Fight Guy on SNES!!! You should’ve saw the way she was holding the controller as she was kicking Mad Gear ass. You’dve died laughing.

BTW Where are you from?

Wow, your mother was a gamer, Famicom? Awesome. Moms that play games, now that is pretty rare. As for where I’m from, I’m from Dayton, Ohio. :karate:

I played Rick Wheeler’s story in Story mode on F-Zero GP Legend last night. Story mode is about the length of a fighting game (maybe even shorter). Sometimes you have to win a GP race, race through a track segment before time runs out, or other stuff. GP Legend has some nice variety from the standard GP mode. The game is supposed to be based off of the Saturday morning Fox Box anime (which I’ve never seen) so some of the characters like Samurai Goroh’s wife, are completely new to me. It is great to hear the classis Mute City, Silence, and Sand Ocean themes.

EDIT:

Million, you’re the most dedicated VJ player I’ve ever seen. I love VJ for GC but man, the lack of a save at certain points was just cruel, CRUEL, I TELL YOUU!! :wow: And you’re right, the Train level is going to be pretty frickin’ annoying. I think it took me over an hour to pass that level. And fighting the Magnificent 5 all over again… :wow: OK, who put the Mega Man in my VJ? Dante in VJ for PS2 is nice but I’d rather see Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li or my boy Mega Man instead. Now that would rock.

the girl on the computer next to me is so damn HOT.

Anyway, the main challenge of RV in Viewtiful Joe, imo…is Vpoints vs. Time. Defense is really a non-issue since anyone who has beat UVrated is rarely hit anyway, and you’re already quite familiar with where enemies and hazards are going to be…plus --UKEMI! (ukemi will save your defense from dropping to an “A” after a hit.ProTip = you can jump or float<Blue< out of Ukemi! I didn’t even know this until someone recently mentioned it on Gfaqs.)

*damn…I can see this girl’s thong panties down the back of her jeans:sweat: I would kill for one of those cell.phone digital cameras right now… seriously you guys should see this…:wow:

I finally completed the last Special Stage in Sonic Advance 3, and went on to decimate the final boss with Super Sonic. Now I’m just glad it’s done, the special stages and everything that you had to do to get them was just so damned annoying.

ahh, burnout 3 is too fun
and yet Im trying to work my way through 3 rpgs, shin megami tensei 3 : nocturne, ffx int, and starting up divine divinity on the pc.
also tried some monster hunter on the side…

oh, someone else who knows what the fuck SC2 REALLY is!

Well from what I’ve read, even on “very easy” the game is still pretty hard. Then again, Gradius has never been an easy game. (Just play the first one on the NES and you’ll see what I mean. :wow:) However, it looks beautiful, sounds fantastic and if you like Gradius, I’d highly recommend it, especial since SHMUPS are so are these days. My father really likes the game.

In F-Zero GP Legend I’ve beaten Captain Falcon & Jody Summer’s stories in Story mode. I just wish their stories had real closure. You never find out what happend to Jody’s brother and Rick never gets Zoda. And Jody looks really hot in this game. I remember in FiZero X she looked really corny but she looks pretty good here. Probably because the game is based off the anime. Time Trial races have always been really fun in F-Zero games. Maybe it’s because of the track designs or the intense speed but you can always shave more seconds off your time. Captain Falcon and Octoman are still some of my favorite racers but Lucy Liberty schools them with her craft. She has an B Body, C Boost and best of all, a A grip. I can take some boost turns without even letting off the gas of breaking with her. She’s so awesome.

Gradius is pretty hard. In fact, if I can recall, (I didn’t play the game much cause of Final Fantasy X, in which I’m currently racking up sphere points off Iron Giants in Thunder Plains), you can toggle death options, you can either die and return on the spot like in Life Force/Salamander, or get hit one time and see a black screen and have to go all the way back, the traditional Gradius style.
Oh speaking of Gradius V, is the Konami code still around?

Man, this Friday thru Sunday, there’s a gaming con, well not exactly a con but people come from everywhere, bring in their systems and just play for the fuck of it for 3 days straight. Just like anime cons and other shit like that, time stands still, you think it’s 12 midnight when in reality it’s only 7:30 PM. It’s called MAGFest or Mid Atlantic Gaming Festival.

The code is in the game, except there’s a slight variation on it.

Yes, Gradius is hard, but you’ll have to play to earn your credits. For every 1 hour you play, you get one additional credit (trust me, that hour goes by WAY fast). I’ve got my game set on Normal.

I’m really enjoying the heck out of it. I got up to the last few stages (6-3), but ran out of credits. There’s supposedly 8 stages. It’s got the classic “Life Force/Salamander” boss theme when you fight some of the classic bosses. It gives you a lot of leeway, too. To die, a shot has to hit your cockpit. When you see the madness that are Stages 3 and 4, you’ll be glad they did that.

The best option type for me is Type 4, since you can make the bits rotate around you and form a pseudo-shield.

A few more credits, and I think I can take down this bad boy. I don’t even want to see the game on Very Hard. :wow:

I should have been more specific - there IS no 30 man code in this game. The “Konami Code” only gives you a power-up (Speed up, missile, laser, 4 options, and a force field).

STILL an awesome game, and (fuck Ikaruga) STILL beatable by normal means.

OH SNAP!!! I just played the first level of Gradius V :wow: FREAKING AWESOME!!! I’m being swarmed by enemies with only misiles and laser as weapons because I haven’t gotten any Multiples (or Options as old-school Gradius fans would call them). I was actually getting nervous. I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it. I was surprised to have that feeling of tension so early on in the game. Ooooo I LOVE IT!!! I actually made it through level 1-1 without dying. I had four options and I totally pwned that boss. I’m sooooooooo gonna love this game.

Heh Heh, I figured that you’d like it, Reggie!

Wait until you hear that 2nd Stage boss music. Remember, ever hour you play, you get an additional credit.

  • NINJA GAIDEN HURRICANE PACK VOL. 2 - downloaded it today, and good LORD, is it HARD. Lots of new enemies, new attack patterns, an unrelenting A.I., and changes to existing conditions makes this one of the most difficult games I’ve ever played bar none. Just the normal enemies will kick your ass. I’m too old for this…at least you get unlimited projectile weapons (but they did little good against most of your foes).

  • Played some more of X-Men Legends today - I got to the Morlock Tunnels and I’m working on rescuing another X-Man to add to my team (my main group now is Iceman, Storm, Wolvie, and Cyclops w/ Jean Grey and Storm rotating or Iceman/Beast). My favorite character is easily Wolverine, since I spend most of my time playing the game as him. I’ve got to start getting Nightcrawler and Jubilee into the mix so I can get them built up a bit more.

  • Got another credit for Gradius today, bringing my total to 9. Got back up to 6-3 and kicked it! Gonna get it next time, though.

My settings are:

Difficulty: Normal
Restart: Same spot respawn
Option Type: 4

Weapons Build-up Plan:

1.) Speed up
2.) Speed up
3.) Missile
4.) Laser
5.) Option 1
6.) Option 2
7.) Option 3
8.) Option 4
9.) Force Field

Soooo close. I had that 2nd half of stage 3 totally done with rainbow ranks…and I slipped up on the last segment on the way back to the door leading to Gran Bruce! I got worried about time and rushed through the last room or so…and ended up with A,V,V----I came up short on V-points! Pickled booty-cheese says hello hello…FROM THE FUTUREEEEEE.

*I got Joe up to the first part of stage 3 now…so Joe has rainbow-v rank for the first 2 stages so far.

After passing stage 1-1 of Gradius V without dying I thought I was top dog. Then I got into stage 1-2 and start dying…A LOT. I had it set on the old-school death Gradius settings so if you die, you don’t respawn where you just died but further back. D’oh! I changed that when I played again and I still kept on dying a lot. What I needed where some Options and Lasers but I was down to my p shooter default gun. Amazingly I made it through the bosses on stage 1-2. I’ll do better when I play tonight after work.

I got to X-Ridley on Metroid Fusion last night. He kicked my ass a couple times, and then I went to bed.

I suppose that the X could have infested some Space Pirates back during Return of Samus. But how could they have gotten Ridley? Because the only time the Space Pirates were on SR388 was during Return of Samus, and Ridley is still in Super Metroid. I suppose it’s possible to make some convoluted story about how Prime takes place after Fusion, and Ridley’s become Meta-Ridley in Prime because of all the work that the Space Pirates had to do to him to remove the X or something. But that falls apart too because it doesn’t explain how Samus would be half-Metroid in Fusion, but then normal again in Prime.

I guess the only conclusion is to chalk it up to Fusion’s piss-poor premise and writing yet again.

Oh I know there’s no 30 man code in Gradius V. The instant power up code is what I was talking about. Who needs 30 lives when you die too much and you have to start over at the beginning?

In fact the number of times you’re allowed to use the instant power up code depends on what stage it is. It’s different for each one.

I’ve been play def jam: fight for new york.

Fun game, but the AI is extremely inconsistent. One match I can completely destroy someone, next match I will get obliterated. the stats dont even mean anything either. Other than that point, the rest of the game is perfection.

Has anyone played that leisure suit larry game?

That instant re-spawn is a blessing. I can’t wait for you to get to Stage 4, bwa ha ha ha!! You’ll start kicking ass when you get the hang of it.

What kills me 85% of the time in this game is when I set my mind to “auto-pilot” and dodge a shitload of laser fire, only to get hit by a slow shot at the very end. :xeye:
