I’ve played Dragon Quarter, and wish to play it again, but it’s in Philadelphia
I really appreciate that they took a tactics approach with the game, but the setting of the game was the exact opposite of BOF3…quite depressing. Whole thing being underground and all that. Anyways, mad solid game, and way cheaper than the ever popular Disgaea and La Pucelle that everyone seems so attached to. So if anyone is looking for a great rpg to get into, or just something to hold them over until the price of Disgaea finally drops at retailers, you could probably find this at EB or Gamestop for around $15. Awesome deal.
On that note, Breath of Fire 3 could probably be found in the PS1 tray of retailers for about the same price. Unfortunately, the price of Breath of Fire 4 has not dropped so well, and brand news are still selling at about $28. Still worth it, I say.
I finally finished City Escape’s missions. I think I’ll give that game a break before attempting another Sonic level. Maybe I’ll work on upgrading Emerl some more in Sonic Battle.
haha…I still can’t find Bloody Roar for Gamecube. I may just give up and get it for Xbox when I get that system, as I’m sure you could still find the Xbox version without much of a problem. There’s no way I could buy it off my friend of course…he loves that game.(*mainly because it’s the only fighting game he can really whoop someone’s ass in:p)
I continue to be pretty much unbeatable in Monkey Baseball on Super Monkeyball 2. I wonder if Sega will keep that franchise going…? I like the Monkey Boxing mode too…and then there’s the game where you glide after rolling down a big ramp…and attempt a landing on different colored sections of an island for points.
I’m also getting back into Smash Bros. Melee…I caught a glimpse of that Pokemon movie with Mewtwo yesterday, and it reminded me of just how awesome Mewtwo is. It’s a shame he kinda sucks in the game…I only get to play against the cpu, so…it isn’t much of a problem. I’ve always imagined a great dramatic storyline for Smash Bros. Melee, where M2 destroys everyone with little to no problem…allies himself with Ganondorf, and the only hope against all this is Ness and perhaps Samus(*if you just say “she can activate a psy-shield component of her armor for mental protection”! ah…fun.).
I’m still thinking of getting Sonic Adventure 2 for Gamecube…it’s a tough decision since I had a real love/hate relationship with that game back on Dreamcast.(*it led to the final Chojin Rage! outburst where I busted my DC with a punch, and broke the SA2 gamedisc into several pieces with a hammer.)
Honestly, I’ve been enjoying both Adventure titles more on GC than I did on DC. Chao raising still sucks, but most of the other bullshit stuff seems less so these days (Although, as I posted above, that one time trial was really pissing me off). I even kinda enjoy the treasure hunt levels now that I’ve taken the time to really learn the layouts and where the various hints can point at. Multiplayer on SA2B is good fun, the large cast for it is nice, and the coolest characters (Chaos 0 and Metal Sonic) can rock their respective games when played properly. At my Wally World, each is only $20. I’d say go for it. SEGA even says they fixed the no-hit glitch against The Final Hazard.
I play the occasional CVS2 but I hate losing so often to SmoothCat. I was working my way through FFX-2 again to get 100% but the Call of the Black Queen lured me away. I love Ogre Battle…
I may play Metroid for the Nes(ticle) because need an NES fix. Yeah, I’m ol’ skool.
Back to Viewtiful Joe–I finally continued my save file tonight…The Adventures of The Captain…and I tore through that last level.(V-rated) Of course I’m a bit rusty, and I died one time in the timed room with the Gelbys(big yellow guys). Surprisingly, I made it through the final room with the Metal Leos with no problem this time…I got hit once and Ukemied out of it.
The voomerang trick against Final Boss(*avoiding spoiling it for the new Ps2 fans of VJ)…I messed up the pattern, and ended up having to fight for real. This wasn’t a problem either…I still remember the routine…Mach speed on the little satellite, slow when the low missle comes so I can auto dodge, and a zoom-stomp into mid-air “RHOH” when he summons the Die-Fighter things, jump up and hover to avoid all lightning, etc. Speaking of that…it’s actually an interesting advantage that Captain Blue has over the other characters…since he has the huge jump + infinite hover ability…he can just jump way above all the lightning strikes, and stay there until it’s safe to come down.
I beat Final Boss’s 2nd form with a mix of real fighting and voomerangs…now if only there was a real video game awards show that could actually be taken somewhat seriously…the people behind this masterpiece of a game deserve something. They’d win each category they got nominated for if I had anything to do with it. So, there ya go…I’ve been through V-rated now with Captain Blue(aka The Shit).
I’ll be playing more of it later tonight…I haven’t hit up the Magnificent 5 in quite awhile…
*I saved this one guy’s FAQ for the Rainbow V Challenge earlier, but I still don’t know if I’m up to it…there’s no margin for error, really…you could be at the last segment before a boss or something…screw up and get a “regular” V ranking, and you have to start over from your last save point, because that regular V would ruin your Rainbow V ranking!
BOF Dragom Quater sounds like a pretty tight game. I see it for $17.99 at Funcoland and GameStop. I need to pick it up before it hits rare status.
I’ve been wanting to pick up Sonic Adventure 2 on GC forever now but I didn’t want to pay $50 oor $30 for it. Now that it’s dropped to $20 I’ll nab it for sure.
I’ll have the SF Anniversay Collection in my hands tomorrow. Unless Capcom screws up and delays the game…AGAIN.
EDIT: I’ve not played much of anything over the past few months, except for PS2 3rd Strike. Last night I sat down and went to play two games I’ve not touched in a long time - Mega Man X5 and X6.
Mega Man X5 - There is a lot to like about this game, though the U.S. boss names do suck. It’s got great music like in the Izzy Glow/Shining Hotarnicus, Dark Necrobat, Bolt Kraken (but you’re too busy trying to do a bike course to enjoy it), Dark Necrobat (one of my favorite tunes in the X series) and Tidal Makkoen/Du…McWhal…yuck (the remixed Bubble Crab tune). The stages themselves aren’t that bad - the only part that irritates me is that black hole in the back of the Dark Necrobat stage that causes massive game slowdown. On a good point, I think that this is the best incarnation of Zero. There are plenty of X Armors to choose from (which at the same time can be a bad thing because there’s some I’ll never use. The only thing that keeps X5 from being a true classic is the fact that the series had worn thin by this point. It’s not as “complete” as X4, but it’s still a good game. 7.8/10
Mega Man X6 - Hmm. It’s got decent boss design (Commander Yamark and Rainy Turtloid). Music is okay, though nothing really memorable (except the “stage selected” theme). This is the game that I want to like because it’s got a little bit going for it, but the horrible blind jumps drag it down for me. There’s simply TOO MANY of them. You can’t even get a HINT of where you are supposed to land.
The killing factor of X6 to me is that it just seems to be TOO COMPLICATED. You can’t jump in and play for a while and have a good time because you have to scroll through 50 lines of text in some places. You have to worry about rescuing lame robots (either to keep them from being possessed or to power up your abilities). Again, too many armors to choose from. It’s nice that they included extras to keep the player entertained, but everything else that drags this game down keeps me from wanting to play long enough to obtain said extras. 6/10
Sooo…I began my trek thru Ultra V-rated with The Captain later on. So far I still got the skills…
I may be up to the Rainbow V challenge after all…I wasn’t even worried about that…just focused on having fun, and whooping ass “with style”…and on the 2nd part of the 1st stage(caves thru to Charles the 3rd) I got 8 rainbow Vs. I beat Charles’s ass even worse than ever before…getting a rainbow V on him…he didn’t even get a chance to repeat his pattern. Random stuff:
-anyone ever mach speed the book stack on the first stage up to the top of the shelf on the right side? haha…I have. It’s fun. (everything in this game is fun.)
-someone over at Gamefaqs discovered something I never noticed either…you can move right out of your flip during Ukemi! I’ve had the game all this time, and gone thru all difficulties and never noticed this! Blue can’t jump out of it since he has no 2nd jump, but he can instantly go into hover mode.
-I actually had a dream I was playing the game last night, and fighting Alastor. It alternated between me playing the game, and actually being there to fight Al for real. I’ve had this type of game dream before…where it alternates between me playing the game normally, and being in the game environment actually doing stuff “for real”. It was surreal to say the least…hearing Alastor in person saying the usual stuff like “ROUND TRIP! ULTRA-VIOLET KICK!”
-I can’t wait 'til the damn Nintendo DS comes out…I MUST have it immediately, as Viewtiful Joe is on the list of launch games:wow:
You’re pretty much right about both games. X6 was the first Mega Man game to really, REALLy tick me off. The blinding jumps were far too arraviting. It feel like I just stepped out of the shower all nice & clean…and then Capcom just urinates all over me. What’s up with that?! I think X6 did have some good music. Metal Shark Player had one of my favorite themes.
You’re good Reggie, SF Collection is out. I walked in with my copy earlier.
Playing Hyper SF2, the first character I picked was Turbo Edition Ken. It almost brought a nostalgic tear to my eye hearing that “SHOOORYUKEN” 1991-1993 voice all over.
PS2 3rd Strike is KING! Yun is just right. He’s the first character I picked and practiced Genei Jin with. I love the improvement Capcom did on the dive kick. It’s fast as hell. That’s why K.O. could combo into it consistently. I still might keep my DC version though, to remember the days of how great my Dreamcast fighting days were.
Son of a bitch! Too bad my Team Forcez (the name of my SF comp, see my title above avatar.) comrades are working right now. we could’ve had a SFAC Launch Play-off celebration at my crib.
Capcom, you did us old schoolers a world of good this year. It was a blast playing through all half the Megaman games on MMAC in one sitting, now I won’t have to worry about my long lost VHS tape of SF2: Animated Movie. Ehhh well it was the edited version anyway.
I got my copy of Street Fighter Anniversary Collection. I messed around with the tunes in the Gallery Mode for like 20 mins before I actually played though. I’m totally digging the arranged tunes.
My one gripe with HSFII: AE would be the unfathomablly cheap AI even on the “Easiest” setting it owned me for free. The AI in this game is even more cheap than Super Turbo. What was Capcom thinking? I hate having to resort to cheap tactics over and over to win, which was what I did with Bison in order to get anywhere (kept doing his Ground Slide and Pyscho Crusher over and over in fights). HSFII is still a great game but the demon AI makes playing solo unenjoyable.
I played 3rd Strike for the first time ever today. Wow. This game is GOOD!!! Why would people dislike this game? It looks great, sounds great and has a ton of new characters (new to me anyway). I haven’t mastered parrying yet (not even sure what it is) but I still had good fun playing it. I hate Hugo. Back in the days of Final Fight a good slap with a metal pipe would shut him up but he’s learned quiet a few tricks since then. I got whipped twice by him. Next time we meet, Hugo, your A is mine. :badboy: And Urien. Why, oh why must you wear a speedo when you fight? Gill=teh broken.
Finished Aria of sorrow…wasnt that impressed, checked a faq, Got the “good” ending. and Im pretty dissapointed…I mean, the biggest strategy that I had to use was “duck, slash” and occasionaly “get the hell out of the way of some incredible slow and obvious, yet not too devestating attack.” That will beat half the bosses. But I did like the soul system, I just wish they had equivalents for all of the classic Subweapons…Holy water! Super bible! Where are you!? But Julius compensated for that.
Also, in brave fencer mushashi, in the last dungeon, I got annoyed and gave up. What kind of element is “sky” anyway?
Im also thinking of booting up my DC and playing some Sonic adventure 2…I never beat that final mission thingy. Stupid rouge, why do you have to suck?
I’ve now finished Metal Harbor on SA2B. I’d heard from a lot of places that it’s the worst time trial in the game, but I found it to be rather easy. City Escape and Radical Highway were much more difficult, IMO.
I also traded in Serious Sam: The Next Encounter at the used game place. I like the two PC Sam games, but this GC one just wasn’t captivating me like the others. I got Luigi’s Mansion now, which I played through the first boss on. It’s pretty fun.
I really enjoyed Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. People hate on it but it has a lot of original ideas and is very well done. I’ve been playing Breath of Fire 4, it sat on my shelf forever and I am just now getting around to playing it and… Wow, I really like this game. I’ll talk about it more once I beat it.
Turns into a Super Saiyan 2 and lets out a Vegeta-like scream of rage
AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
STUPID SUPER TURBO AI ON HYPER STREET FIGHTER II!!! Thanks, Capcom. Thanks for peeing all over my single player experience with the game. I have to be cheap to beat the demonic AI. :lame: Can’t wait to play the game with a pal. Will be worlds better than teh gay ST AI. :lame:
I’ve encounter SkullMan and Mega Man Battle Network. Once again, another classic series RM has been greatly redesigned. I’m investigating another cyber crime that’s causing the traffic to be messed up. 4 cars already went boom. I’m guessing TurboMan is involved. Ooooo I really like the first MMBN. Such a great game.
