The Current State of the World thread

I know this. I know all of it. And yet, there’s still something very wrong about it. Isn’t that weird?

Not to indoctrinated citizens, or people that are completely fine with the system

But we still shouldn’t stick our noses in there. Sure medical supplies or other humanitarian things, but placing embargo’s or restrictions on their economy? That’s an act of war.

Can somebody explain this to me. I got into an argument with a moron recently. it was about the legality of trade sanctions and other shit like that.

My stance on the issue is that placing an embargo, or any type of restriction that is aimed at hurting the economy of nation X is an act of war period. no matter how you slice it, its a blatant act of aggression meant to make the other country look like the bad guy if it decides to defend its interests.

While that of the other individual was that it wasn’t.

But when I asked them why the US can claim that blocking American export/import (intrests) in the straight is an act of war, but when we do it to them its not. He responded that its different. That in our case its a matter of national interests and stability. Why o why are people that fucking dumb?

Escalation.
I would call war the likely next step after embargos.
Embargos are the next step after aggressive negotations.
Negotiation is usually the UN trying to bully a small country such as Iran into compliance.
Iran is in the middle of larger powers trying to use Iran’s resources as much as possible.
Iran is a relatively small country, they will likely be invaded at some point.

Now I wonder which country is most likely to invade…? hmmm… that’s a tough one.

It can be an act of war. Consider that America’s embargo on Cuba was due to military actions. You can go there and trade soap and shampoo for sex with naughty Cuban girls.

And how well is North Korea doing again?

And there are obviously various other types of embargos that can fuck a country over. Will they go to war? Maybe. Is it an act of war. Most of the time, yes.

I thought it was a tactic used to bait the stricken country INTO an act of war, in order to justify engaging…

And that’s what bugs me. This country can choose to do it freely to other countries, but when shit like that is threathened to us, oh noes, we gonna bomb your ass.

Current state of Affairs in the US

Black out on the price of gas. 5.19 cents for 91, 5 dollars for regular. At least Bush said somehting about prices being to high, at least he put exposure on the issue. Where the fuck you at Obama? Oh that’s right, your to busy on your fucking 100th vacation playing and playing basketball.

oil embargo isn’t what’s hurting Iran in the short term, it’s being kicked out of the electronic wire transfer system worldwide. In other words, their banks are now cut off from every other bank in the world for the most part.

Really? You needed Obama to come and tell you about gasoline. The fact that we’re running out of oil, have been going to war over oil for awhile now, and prices have been rising for like 10 years straight, didn’t point any of this out to you. You needed Obama to come on TV and warn you. C’mon, pedo…

Gasoline will continue to rise up in cost, until we replace it. That is all. This won’t change, we won’t find more cheap gas. We will just use it up until we run out, and then look elsewhere. The sad fact is that rising gas costs have pretty much fucked the poor and middle class families. All the small shit costs more now, and for poor people, food going up a couple of cents is pretty fucking brutal.

Nothing wrong with that, but you didn’t say that in your previous post, sir.

My point is that at least W said something. Whether or not he meant it or even cared is not my problem, but at least he said WTF (even made a memorable quote, magic wand). All the while the media shitted on him. Where the in the fuck is the media criticizing Obama? My beef is that this shit stain isn’t going to say anything, and the media isn’t going to lift a finger and criticize him. I know he can’t do anything, but at least say something, expose that shit.

But c’mon to brush it under like nothing is happening, he is doing the same thing he did with OWS, or everything else in his presidency. At least be like W and have a fucking back bone.

W didn’t have a backbone, Cheney did. Rumsfeld did, but not W.

What do you really expect a president to say??

“I’m sorry America. The reason why gas prices are so high is because companies are following the American ideal of capitalism? Because we have been living in a delusional world filled with an endless supply of cheap oil. Because the people that fund my campaign threaten to take away their money if I try to do something? Because there are speculators basically working the flawed system as it is to make a buck and if we do something about it it all goes in the shitter? sorry that this idea of a continuous growing and sustainable world with finite resources isn’t really working out and we have no idea on how to fix it without pissin off a lot of folks?”

no it’s too late for that. I bet he will say something once there is a chosen GOP candidate and we get closer to election time but not now.

Hahaa. Should I be surprised that an acute ailment (apendicitis) was treated differently than a somewhat less routine condition (gall bladder)? also:

hahaa. indeed.
every link you post is DM. You should diversify a little.

anyway, cancer treatment lottery souhds like a bad thing:

and if you actually want to pay out of pocket for drugs the UKNHS wont spring for, you risk complete loss of coverage:

currently or recently the following countries, among others, needed help in preventing genocide: cambodia, north korea, rwanda, iran, afghanistan, uganda, zaire, liberia, sierra leone, east timor, sudan, guatemala, haiti, chad, cuba, zimbabwe, blahblaa…
What makes Syria more important than these nations? (although in some cases you could argue that our govts foriegn pollicy contributed to the genocide, which is another argument against invention) Or do you think that we should actually put ourselves on the line (militarily/economically/etc.) for all of them equally? It is a noble philosophy and I really think that help should reach these people, but I dont think borrowing money from china and taking it away from struggling US citezins is the right approach. I think that it is a job for private charity, something the US is disproportionally good at for a number of reasons (https://www.cafonline.org/pdf/1057C_WorldGvingMap2011_131211.pdf).

capitalism huh?
not cartels, arbitrary restrictions US drilling, inflation of the dollar, etc? Even though they usuallymake money off of the futures market, you could argue that speculators historically act as a buffer to more harsh price gauging in down times (despite being accused of it).

Obama was going to have a confrence with big oil and some of its investors iirc. Cancelled the meeting, never followed up on it.

speculators screwed over farmers in the ealry 30’s. Its happening today, but with oil. Your point?

edit/

speculators are whatever. But driving up the prices on predictions, on markets that should run on the principle of supply and demand, not complex mathematical formulas made up by a machine based on the number of google hits is ridiculous.

Speculators buy up what they believe is underpriced given what they predict in the future. If they are wrong, they lose $$$, if they are right their acts usually serve to save consumers from a harsh spike in what would occur in an potherwise pure supply/demand scenario (happens all the time on smaller scalem); But since people see them sopeculators p[rofiting off of hard times, they get all monkeyspitinig mad.
hmmm:
http://money.cnn.com/2008/06/27/news/economy/The_onion_conundrum_Birger.fortune/?postversion=2008062713

which then rises the cost of essential items, making it harder for people. Now, why wouldn’t people get fucking pissed off that some rich asshole’s have a large influence in the cost of everyday materials?

seems like you missed that point right there

hahaa. What?

edit:
all speculator are rich?
tell that to the guys down in the pits in the NYSE, and chicago
some of them dont even have high school educations
these are your speculaotrs trading in commodity futures
it is a very very very risky thing that people do with there own $$$$ (no health, no benefits, nada)
and many lose eveything
few are very good, but it never lasts
and they provide you a service on the backs of thier livlihood you not even fail to acknowledge, but vilify them for
hahaa

ugh, my fuel prices haven’t gone down and have been spiking, but speculators are making record breaking profit. I see what you are getting at, but

If they are wrong, they lose $$$, if they are right their acts usually serve to save consumers from a harsh spike in what would occur in an potherwise pure supply/demand scenario

their profit hasn’t saved me from the gas price spike. see my problem?****

says who?
Based on economic principles have I not used evidence to suggest that it likely has?
Now refute, if you dare.

My wallet. In less than a month prices rose 50+ cents (3.57 to 4.20), and overnight they went up to 4.99987987. And why? Supply certainly didn’t increase ten fold in 9 hours. What did the Arab’s suddenly start yelling Ayatolla no more oil for you?

to clarify, im under the assumption that you are responding to the bottom half of my statement.

P.S for the first statement add the word company next to speculators.
