The Current State of the World thread

I’m not sure if third party is necessarily the solution.

I’m more for taking money out of elections. It would be all tax-payer money paying the way. CNN, FOX News, et. al. will gladly allow any candidate free air time because they know they’ll get viewers (and tax breaks). Age of information allows the cheap dissemination of political views via web pages. Whitehouse.gov has a voting system for issues they address, albeit they don’t generally do anything other than answer a question, but still a question answered is something learned about our government.

Hell, I’m not even sure that would work.

Also, please pardon all non-violent drug offenders AND make all drugs legal, requiring FDA approved processes. Go ahead to Longs and get your cocaine if you want. People know it’s bad and some people will still do it despite it being illegal. Smoking is bad, alcohol is bad, but who are we to tell people they shouldn’t do it?

This shit should be logical. I would rather have a leader who managed his campaign, and used his own funds, rather than somebody who had millions thrown at them, and just pissed money to win an election

…Does Pelosi realise that Colbert’s ‘Super-Pac’ is him being satirical about the whole money in government thing and he’s just donating the money to charity? -_-’

I swear that alien bitch is mentally incompetent.

Pretty sure that’s a joke.

The regulations are usually act to restrict new competition. Does it make sense to be against lobbying, but defend and be hungry for more govt regulation? Who do you think pushes hardest for (or writes) the regulations.

I am not defending regulation as it exists, so much as attempting to debunk instant deregulation as a panacea.

If you don’t like something that our society has molded itself to, you may wish to see it fall into disuse, but that doesn’t mean it makes sense to wipe it from existence as soon as possible. It’s like kicking a crutch out from under someone who hasn’t had time to learn to walk without it.

Just got into reading this thread, currently 1/3rd through~ I was wondering if anybody had any books to recommend about the entire crisis and what got us in this mess. I’ve seen Inside Job, but I’m looking for the actual ABC.

edit: I’ll be starting with John Perkins’ books

Hey guys, I modified this first post. Please let me know what you think about these. If anything needs to be added/updated/modified/etc. Any ideas, possible solutions, etc.

1), Can we even be the next Greece, or better phrased, can the US really fail. I know the possibility of severe depression is possible, but failing completely and having to declare bankruptcy? I am incapable of comprehending that idea. It doesn’t make much sense to me, although im fully aware that it can happen and it most likely is going to happen. Could the better question be, how will the world cope with such failure

1a) I don’t see that happening. If we say fuck off, China is going to respond. And the way I see it, America get to mess with your economy, but if you try doing that with them, its war.

1b) We should, but how?

1c) A large majority of the nation says and fervently believes that we don’t have an impact on the world with pollution. And a lot of those who champion the green movement, don’t know what the fuck they are talking about, want solar to be the predominant form of energy production and believe its the solution, and refuse nuclear as part of the solution. not only that they try and push laws that are too draconian. There is a fine line between environmental responsibility and flat our stupidity.

1d) Totally agree, but the question then becomes, at least for me. How to convince the people that a large portion of the money is spent on bureaucracy and useless shit like TSA.

On a related note, I can’t even comprehend how our so called leaders can condemn foreign leaders for doing shady shit like imprisoning people, but we go and do it when whistle blowers expose their dumb asses.

A thought:

What would happen if our elected officials were selected at random? Not from the pool of candidates running, but from the pool of all eligible citizens?

That would be an interesting idea, but the idea of an inbred moron in charge is disturbing. >.<

Thankfully, term limits got him out of office a few years ago.

interesting if true. and I’ll come up with something in regard to EG questions

Canadian Rights lawyer and reporter Mike Geist discusses why Canada keeps showing up on the US Piracy watchlist EVERY fucking year, and getting compared to countries like Russia and China.

More importantly, it shows how hard the American media companies are pressing the REST OF THE FUCKING WORLD to change their laws in order to benefit their product, and theirs alone.

Sorry for that wall of text. Basically shows how much the fucking American corporate fucks are trying to guide the rest of the world.
And we have the 3rd largest gaming industry in the WORLD, behind America and Japan. And we pay taxes on ALL recordable media (USB sticks, CD/DVD ROM’s, MP3 players, etc) which goes towards funding our artists.

Pollution needs to be dealt with globally. Whats the use in company A lowering their carbon footprint, only to have the Chinese relying on coal for energy still?

The taxation thing is interesting. I’ve wondered for ages if increasing tariff’s would even help at this point. On one hand, it could prevent companies from just outsourcing EVERYTHING, which has become an obvious problem for the US (your nation is entirely buyers, nobody really makes fuck all anymore). On the other hand, some companies may just view the US as dead, and just not bother shipping their product their due to the tariff’s

Goddamn you and your wit.

They’re using simple game tactics people watch every week on reality TV shows such as Survivor.

Or it’s a coincidence.

Only one can survive.

edit:
How funny would it be if Ron Paul ended up VP for Romney. The Libertarians would probably lock up and need a hard reboot.

Seriously, though, I think this bears discussion. One of the biggest problem in this country is that the same people (or groups of people) worm their way into power and become entrenched. They embark on increasingly expensive campaigns funded by enormous business interests that essentially view their contributions as bribes. Our leaders’ ways of thinking and abilities to make significant improvements have stagnated.

So let’s brainstorm the weirdest solutions we can think of that are still feasible and think about how they might improve (or worsen) the situation.

So that’s my idea. Select a random leader. More likely to work in the interests of regularly people, won’t be bought and paid for before office is even taken, will refresh the pool of ideas, etc. The incentive to be an amoral, power-hungry d-bag is removed, because as soon as it’s over, the official goes back to being a regular person.

There is the danger that such a person would be underqualified for the job for any number of reasons, but I think it’s overstated. Think about how qualified the people who win these elections tend to be. Think about the qualifications of the highest-profile candidates currently running.

Ill give it a shot, I was thinking about solutions

The Discharge and temporary Desolution of the two dominant parties for at least 6 years. Every 50 years, any new parties running must strictly adhere to the constitution, and any major changes to government structure made during that time would be re voted on after the 6 year trial period to try and ensure that any questionable laws don’t stay . That way, it forces people to see past two parties, and it gives other peoples a way to expose themselves.

However, im fully aware that this is really questionable in itself and perhaps really dangerous to the health of nation because in those 6 years, a lot of bad shit can happen.

Very detailed study of the effects of exporting manufacturing jobs from the US to China:

the Afgan shyt is scary
so is Syria

-its sad and scary
its also funny how they burn everything but Muslims always take it to the next level.
