The Current State of the World thread

I agree 100% about how crony capitalism is wrong. I would love to see changes made to fix this, but more than that I would love to see an end to all capitalism and in its place introducing a more modern system. The capitalist system is based on competition and scarcity. So by nature that automatically pits us all against each other, when it doesn’t have to be that way. It seems rather strange to me that a system which is based around competition and scarcity of resources and necessities, would not expect crime as well. And if it expects crime as a result, then there is a problem. Another side effect of capitalism that I hate is exploitation, more specifically of people and resources of “third world” countries. But that’s how it must be for us to have the luxuries and to have affordable prices for our goods right? I guess it just sucks to be them then…

Give me a system where there will be enough for everyone and where we can work together and truly be equal.

that’s in America. I said shit would get ugly a looong time ago. And I see that I am right.

It will only get worse. How long until NYC protesters start bringing gas masks?

"His name is Scott Olsen. He’s a 24 year old former Marine, served 2 tours in Iraq and came home safe. Then, in Oakland, he was struck in the head by something that the Police likely fired at him, fracturing his skull. When people tried to help him, they were shot with rubber bullets and flash bang grenades.

A friend of a friend of a friend is with him at the hospital, and has been since he arrived last night." ~Stephanie Frame Herzog

The doctor treating Olsen said: “I’m just absolutely devastated that someone who did two tours of Iraq and came home safely is now lying in a US hospital because of the domestic police force.”

i dont advocate compulsory military service (though it seems to work for the Swiss and is probably a major factor in their longstanding tradition of neutrality), but I think that a blanket bashing of armed forces in general is fatally myopic.
also letting Einstein do your critical thinking for you on the subject is also probably imprudent seeing as how he went from passionate pacifist to lively war supporter and back again. He was a brilliant theoretical physicist, but he was human after all (who actually went through the trouble of becoming an american citizen).

And this is why we don’t advocate the condoning of hubcabsignstop posts.

takes a long, deep breath

Okay, try to follow this:

When someone quotes another person’s statement or statements, there is a strong chance that said someone agrees with the sentiment of said person’s statement or statements.

This does not mean that said someone agrees with everything the other person ever uttered.

Nor does it mean that said someone is “letting another person do his criitcal thinking for him”.

Indeed, quite the contrary, as the quotes in question are there to serve merely as reflections of said someone’s own, personal viewpoints.

But most people got that.

If you want to take it a step further, you really ought to get a grip on what the majority of the U.S.'A.s Founding Fathers wanted, as per a standing army.

You’ll find that the better chunk of them did not want a standing army, but rather the capacity to bring forth militia in defense of our nation.

But you probably believe that anyone who would “let” what the framers of the Constitution of the U.S.A. formulated into the Constitution of the U.S.A. dicate what constitutes the U.S.A., isn’t really a critical thinker.

then why quote the archetypical genius of man?
as you put it, “Einstien >>>>>> xyz” ; you win
if you didnt personally defer to him, you hoped others would

hahaa
and the last part about the founders/constitution was a rather inspired retort.
irrelevant, but inspired.

some guy in a wheelchair got tear gassed too. I’ll look for the video when I wake up if I remember

With all this stuff going on, it makes you think that the world is coming to an end. I don’t know if I’m being crazy, but it’s just how I feel!

I’m too busy working and making money to care about this shit. Stupid liberal arts and psychology majors.

Protesting does not end the world; just fyi.

Troll much?

Let me spell it out for you:

Sun Tzu is not xyz.

Sun Tzu was a mastermind of warfare, and the quote given was one towards such ends - precisely so, as it is how he defines the fucking art of war.

If you cannot comprehend how that stands in diametric opposition to the topic to which it spoke i.e. towards a better state of affairs in the world i.e. peace, then thank the great whatever you aren’t in charge of anything even remotely related to world affairs, or else the entirety of humanity would have already been rendered as crispy fried as your brain.

I’m so fucking ashamed and disgusted by this turn of events right now that I’m equally frustrated because I’m here in Texas and unable to do anything about it. One more story like this and I’m about ready to support the Revolution.

hahaa
true, sun tzu is not xyz
the point is you invoke the men’s legacies to leverage your argument
while claiming to allow the quotes ‘to serve merely as reflections of your own, personal viewpoints’, your arguments betray an apparent faith in the power of the source of the quote, which is what spurred my original comment (which was met with bombastic condescension)
so, are you not completely full of it and talking in circles?

gotta love the police in my area…

Sigh…

As for hubcapsignstop, trying to respond to anything he says is like having your OS ask “Delete C:\ and mass-rape orphans? Y / Y?”. ~ ThePurpleBunny

Maybe the tea party is on to something with stronger state governments. The best countries always seem to be European countries.

I don’t agree with a weaker federal government but giving state governments more responsibility and making them more accountable may be a good idea (like this whole unemployment crisis). Each state is different and has a different “culture” to it, but I do agree somethings need more federal government regulation or solely ran by the federal government (like an education standard, not this “remove Thomas Jefferson and the word Democracy from our history books” but living in NY, I did enjoy the Native American history).

Enough people don’t care about what happens at the local and state levels imo. They are probably already very strong and powerful and it’s just the people holding the positions are weak and lazy.

Not to be an asshole, but hasn’t shit like this been going on in certain neighborhoods for the past few decades?

He should’ve made a contrast to witch hunts

Graphic misses the point entirely.

In the hypothetical situation that the wealth of the top 1% was suddenly disseminated into the rest of the world, it wouldn’t fucking matter if they have to take up regular jobs like everybody else.

In the hypothetical situation that exceedingly wealthy criminals of this world continue to be criminals once they’re no longer exceedingly wealthy, they will be punished as harshly as anybody else–perhaps more harshly, given their past.

The graphic is essentially glorifying the psychopathic behavior of these people. The catch is, the boardroom is the only place in society where that shit flies.

It’s just beginning man. It’s the end of people’s illusions. It’s the end of the rule of the corporatocracy, and the beginning for the real rule of the people. We decide our own future from this point on.

Up until now democracy has been a rouse, where your opinion is molded through the use of mainstream propaganda. It’s like a cop out so you don’t have to think. But now there are much more people waking up to the fact that the media will lie to you, and the government will lie to you to push their own agendas. So hopefully this will create more conscious and open minded people, who can learn to learn from different sources and ultimately think for themselves
