What coorporations need to realize is that there needs to be quality over quantity.
With quality comes efficiency in every aspect imaginable. Rather than creating the cheapest piece of shit to sell to the masses, the focus is quality product that lasts. ANd with that model, there is a lot more money to be made
Aint gonna happen though, money corrupts people. You think these dictators are assholes on a power trip? Imagine Wall Street monsters who know they can get away with whatever they want because they can hide behind any western government.
They want things to break fast so people have to go replace it.
People want quality goods so they donāt have to keep rebuying it.
Thereās an equilibrium here: last long enough where people wonāt think itās cheap but short enough the company doesnāt go out business waiting for customers to replace it
I remember in high school, one of my history teaches (forget which one) mentioned how some company that made some voting machines went out business because the machines were so good, maintenance was infrequent and they never to buy another one to replace a broken one (the school was using these same machines still and were in good condition after like 40 years).
Some girl was leaving our business law and policy class today, mad her cellphone broke a month or so after the warranty expired saying sheās pretty sure they do that on purpose. I reassured her they do indeed do that on purpose.
Not sure how true it is, never cared to look into it, but some techy dude over at another forum I use to go to mentioned how he imported his Toshiba laptop because Toshiba laptops sold in the states are defective models.
Agreed except for the part about creating lasting equipment making money. If you make one product that lasts for a long time then you probably spend more on parts and development. You have to limit your production because after you have sold so many amounts of the product then you have no more market. And thereās the advertising and pushing the product too. The only way that it would be more reasonable to sell quality products is if they were scarce, like BMWās for example.
I understand that there needs to be equilibrium. Doesnāt mean that my phone has to be a piece of shit. I donāt mind upgrading every 2/3 years, but I expect my product to last me at least 4-5 when I take care of it.
Ive noticed that shoes made in Vietnam are of quality status. Dont tear easy, last a while, and you can wash them when they get dirty and last you. Those Chinese ones though, my god what pieces of shit.
Ive also noticed that certain products like all my Korean/Japanese made Samsung and Toshiba products last a while, donāt break if you as long as you try to take care of them. While those Chinese onesā¦
Look at Honda, they have been building quality cars since the 90ās. A lot of American car manufactures followed the quick throw away car model in the and look what happened.
I guess what im trying to say is that there isnāt enough quality in todayās products
I agree, Iām just saying that it exist and explaining the process.
Yep, many of my electronics are Samsung or Sony. Sony Iām kind of suspect now because my Blu Ray lens on the PS3 crapped out on me a month or 2 after the extended warranty. Still not as soon as 360s, but you can look at the cheap thermal compound and soldering for proof of planned obsolesce in both devices.
My laptop is a Toshiba I bought on sale at Office Depot. I actually had to replace the first one I bought because a day after purchase, the monitor crapped out and this is the replacement (same in all aspects) and no problems after 4 years more or less.
Anyone willingly buying a US manufactures car, I consider not too educated on it.
They still arenāt as reliable, lasting and efficient as the likes of Hondas and Toyota.
American cars manufactures are outsourcing while a few plants of these non-American manufactures have opened up in the states
Quality would increase if people would replaced goods that went bust too soon with longer lasting goods when it was time to replace it. The ones building goods that crap out too soon would lose money because they see people want something that last longer than the extended warranty.
Buying American is very complicated. Because although one model for a company does well and is a reliable car, the other model would be complete trash.
I wouldnāt buy future American cars just because I refuse to pay 30,000 dollars for a Chinese product. or an Indian car relabeled as American.
Iāve been rocking the same 01 camry since I bought it used 10 years ago. I could have easily have āupgradedā to newer models during those ten years, but Iām a strong believer in the adage of āif it aināt broke donāt fix itā and I plan on driving that car until itās dust. Same with my mountain bike, computer desk, digital camera, tv, etc. Iāve just never given a shit about keeping up with the Jones who are probably being foreclosed on anyway.
The whole planned obsolescence is nothing new and itās especially evident if frigginā cell phones. I just LOVE the way my phone suddenly decides to break down and canāt hold a charge any longer than an hour around the same time Iām due for a new āupgradeā; otherwise Iād still have the same phone I had 8 years ago.
Soviet brings up an excellent point about the shoe quality declining. I STILL have a pair of ORIGINAL Air Jordans I had back in 5th grade (yes, Iām old) that are still in my parentās attic and they are still in great shape despite me wearing them to hell and back. In fact most of my childhood shoes are in great shape (I still donāt get why my parents insist on keeping them though).
Nowadays, Iām lucky if I can hold on to a pair longer than six months without them looking like rat chew toys.
Iāve been rocking the same Nike Flight for a few years now in all 4 seasons. Only problem is the funk is growing too strong now and I gotta air them out or let them retire.
I really think that the global Occupy Movement is the last chance at bringing the power to the people. If it fails, then either the corrupt politicians in their distorted take on capitalism decide to police and control themselves, or we will be at the complete utter control of the corporatocracy.
The people are calling for change and for people to wake up and not be taken advantage of any more. If this fails, it will take a complete failure of the system resulting in catastrophe and will take a huge toll on the people who donāt have the means to provide for themselves.
So I just see 3 outcomes. The people stand up and change the world (at least enough to avert disaster), [S]the people in power change their ways[/S], or their will be disaster followed by revolution.
