I don’t work for Capcom, but no credible company would allow that sort of harassment. Especially if it can appear to be sexual harassment, because this a major problem in the workplace. Capcom would have HAD to do something if the issues were brought to them. The “host” isn’t someone to talk to, but I’m sure she could have spoke to someone.
Again statistical information that doesn’t mention methodology or context. In smaller companies women may feel more intimidated since they’re less controlled, and it may be harder to make anything happens. In larger companies it is VERY easy for women to go to HR with no backlash from senior managment. Capcom is a big company. even the “threat” of sexual harassment would put some sort of action into Capcom.
Now it does suck that she had to go through reporting incidents to Capcom to make it a comfortable environment. But hey when you’re a minority anywhere, you have to do more work than the normal person would need to do. The thing is, if someone is concerned about winning, they would exhaust all resources, and there is no evidence she did anything.
I don’t really believe in victims. I believe people make themselves victims when they don’t do what needs to be done. One complaint from Capcom would have stopped all of this, because the bad publicity would have put Capcom into action. No way Capcom would just ignore it and allow it to go on.
Both are to blame honestly, Aris was being Aris but he should’ve chilled out, Miranda should’ve said/done something sooner rather than let shit get to where it. I don’t care how non-confrontational you are, if you feel like you’re being disrespected or harassed SAY SOMETHING OR IT NEVER GETS RESOLVED or if it does it ends up dragged on and ends up even worse. She didn’t need to just quit like that unless she felt that she wasn’t gonna win or it was just for drama (which I think it was anyways.)
I’m at work, so I’m not going to watch the stream. But if Superyan is on the SF team, and Sherry is on the Tekken team, this show has almost zero consistency.
wow, Aries is a CREEP & that was most definitely sexual harassment.
“Whats your bra size” ??..is this Junior High? … “Win or im going to smell you” ??? At your JOB at that? …Dude has rapist-tendencies.
Its unfortunate that Miranda didn’t speak up earlier for herself like she should’ve. And its fugged up that all those men in there didn’t have the balls to check Aries for weirding-up the vibe . But the bottom line is, that dude is a damn creep.
Just want to say that exchange there really points out why these guys are lucky to have Alex as a coach.
You can’t pick a character based on what other people tell you is good. You have to pick a character that interests you so that you have incentive to discover things and be proactive in understanding the game. If you don’t do that, you’ll never become better at games past the point where you are facing people who have gone through that process and understood for themselves why certain things are a good idea or not.
It’s early too, but that never really stops being true.
Aris was doing the same thing to Mike Ross when he was there (except he started undressing Mike). He also sniffs Tasty Steve.
Aris is creepy, but he is creepy to everyone. It was too much for Miranda, but Aris wasn’t singling her out…he’s creepy to everyone. The reason it seems like he was singling her out, was because the chat was singling her out; Aris was following the chat (which is not usually a good idea).
From the link:* Some online community members, such as those found at Shoryoken, have firmly sided against Pakozdi, claiming that Aris was just joking so she should not have felt uncomfortable. According to one user, the fighting game community is where men are allowed to be themselves, which means they can make “mildly lecherous” comments to women regardless of whether they’re happy about it or not. * Meanwhile, other members of the community (especially at NeoGAF) have criticized Aris’ behavior, and it’s heartening to see that Super Yan received a fair bit of support from the fighting game community. While some members of the FGC believe that their hobby is about singling out women for abuse and making them feel uncomfortable, it would appear that an encouraging amount of them actually stand against that kind of shit.
^WTF??? Way to make all of SRK sound like a bunch of sex deprived assholes!
Yeah, he does make it seem like a majority of SRKers are douches, and NeoGaf (home of the Illuminati) are mankind’s saviors, but overall…I thought it was a decent article. He is just piecing together information, but at least he isn’t completely one-sided against the fighting game community.
