The Computer/Tech/Gadgets/Software Thread

JetAudio is one of the greatest softwares ever made.

It plays virtually every audio and video file out there.

You can convert audio files to different formats, rip cds, convert video to different formats, lyrics/artwork viewer… so much shit.

Can anyone point me to a good quality portable media player that 1) has MTP (no transfer software, just plug into USB mode, drag, drop, then play) and 2) true gapless audio playback (or at least ‘the gap is a millisecond blip, it may as well be gapless’)? I can make compromises in other places like price or looks or limited codec compatibility, but those are two most important things I need in a PMP.

ive got an att tilt right now and not sure what to get for my next phone. i like the touch pro 2 but am thinking about waiting for a real winmo 7 phone. i figure the tp2 will be upgradeable to wm7 but i think itd be cool to have a tegra phone.

all my friends have iphones and i love playing holdem and text twist on the but i dont know if i could ever deal with a virtual keyboard.

im pretty happy with my tilt but its been 2 years and ive never gone this long without upgrading.

your thoughts ?

I’d stay away from Logitech speakers.

I had some, but the woofer died. They gave me a free replacement, which I’m using now, but in the last couple weeks, its been fucked. If I have the volume too high, the sound will keep blanking out.

This. I searched for it but there was nothing. And I know there’s a lot of ppl in the IT field on SRK

Maybe I’m going crazy, but after installing Windows 7 RC, I really have become a big WMP fan when it comes to video. WMP12 manages to have support for pretty much any format or codec I can throw at it except for MKV, OGG and Real Media. And I really don’t notice much resource usage from it - it somehow manages to be less of a resource hog that Media Player Classic.

But .mkv is a very common file type used nowadays.

MPC for me. More user-friendly.

Maybe if you download a lot of anime. But as far as what most people download or buy from most places, they’re usually MP4 or AAC formats.

Anime, and some HD movies as well are in .mkv format.

^ I’ve yet to watch an HD video on my system, but HD anime is near-guaranteed .mkv format. My video player of choice is The KMPlayer. It’s pretty much like every other player out there when it comes to options. The only reason why I’m using it was because way back when, I was having problems with subs not showing properly in TTGL using VLC, so it’s stuck with me ever since.

I seen your latest desktop screenshot in the Desktop Thread. You mind sharing where you got that skin from? I like dark themes.

*Edit: Shit, I thought I could find it but I can’t. Help?

All you guys looking for a new, minimalistic and all around good player? Try Gom Player.

Do any of you guys know of an MP3 player with “On-the-go” smart playlisting? Like, say I set it up on the device to fill a playlist with only songs rated with 5 stars. I’d want the list to update if I’m out (away from my PC) and decide to rate a song 5 stars. Is there a player that can do that?

And as for my recommendation, Stickies.

It’s a “post it note” program. I don’t know how to jazz it up other than that. I use it for a variety of things. Like when I have to so something to my computer and the procedure is on a website. I don’t feel like looking back and forth. So I can just copy the steps into a sticky note that can stay on top of the screen as long as I need. You can change the color and font of the notes, and even save “styles” of colors and fonts you like. One thing that bums me is that you can’t drag and drop highlighted text though.

So I purchased my first iPod (4th Gen Nano) and I understand this shit isn’t as user friendly as other MP3’s, for the most part I understand sync’ing music onto it.

But with my growing BD collection, I have a couple of digital copies of movies (WatchMen and Dark Knight) and I ended getting them sync onto the iPod so that I can see how the movies look on it, and when I try watch them, the screen darkens so it looks like it’s about to start and then jumps right back to the movie selection. I’ve tried to re-sync it over and over and I cannot get anything to play.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what the issue may be? I wonder if I’m skipping a step somewhere.

Maybe the videos are outside of the iPod’s capabilities? That used to happen on my MP3 player, but I’d get a message along with it.

This.

iPods only play specific video formats. What format where the videos in?

First off, MTP is actually the transfer software protocol, you mean UMS/MSC. Just check out any of the players from iRiver, iAudio, or Samsung. I recommend the former two especially for your needs. Their players are 99% UMS and require no software, most of them actually have both features, and allow you to switch between them in the settings/config menu. And I’m pretty sure there is a gapless player among them, especially with the newer flash players.

KMplayer is damn near flawless, except for one huge prob: playback of incomplete vids.

It actually crashes or hangs for a very long time when trying to play an incomplete video in certain formats.

That’s the main reason I no longer use it.

I also hate the fact that the devs aren’t really active, it hasn’t been updated since like March or so.

Which one?

Both are made by the same guy on devart.
