So the fact that tons of players are getting signed isn’t exciting to you? It just means that the FGC is growing rapidly and is beginning to change from an obscure section of competitive gaming into something that’s receiving a lot more attention from people who don’t necessarily play the games themselves. Even if you don’t care about the community growing, which is retarded imo, it means there’s a greater chance of you seeing more money from tournaments.

Since I know people like you care about that sort of thing, check my join date rofl. I also like SF4 you fuckin’ elitists.

Most players that are “sponsored” now, are hardly sponsored at all. For most of these guys, their “sponsorship” amounts to being put up in a hotel for a weekend (with like 20 other dudes in the room), when there’s a tournament… and not a whole lot more. I don’t find this terribly exciting.

Outside of Mad Catz, apparently LLL (which just got rolled into Mad Catz), Justin’s EG deal (not everyone’s… though, I have no knowledge of the details of the new EG deals), and gootecks/Mike Ross’ Complexity stuff (which is more “job” than “sponsorship”), none of these guys are actually getting good deals. Very few of these guys get any salary. Very few of these guys get to fly out wherever the fuck they want to go, on their sponsor’s dime. For most of these guys, their deals are shit.

You have to ask yourself why a guy like marn just up and left his sponsor… and he was with EG… a company that probably does more for their players than 90% of the other sponsors out there. He didn’t get a salary. He wasn’t able to go wherever he wanted to go.

Even if the deals were amazing… I’d still have to ask why people care about it. I’m not trying to knock it… I just genuinely don’t understand why anyone would care enough to compile a list of players, and their affiliations. This isn’t Bad Boy v. Death Row. This isn’t D-Generation v NWO…

I personally, don’t like how this scene is turning into more and more of a spectacle, with shittier players coming in to spectate, drop their two cents, and complain all day about dumb shit. That’s my personal take on most of this “growth”, but that’s just me. That’s another conversation, but you’ll have to excuse me, if I don’t find all of this to be a particularly big deal.

If you use the word “elitist” as some attempt to slander, you’re probably dumb, and not particularly good at anything. Yes. I am an elitist. The elite are better than the others… when you’re putting time into something, you should strive to be elite. Not some fan, worrying about other players signing to some weak deals. Again… that’s just me. You don’t get to be good at much of anything, if you strive to be common.

EDIT- If you wanna talk about EVO getting sponsored, with some major corporate backing… or other tournament LEADERS getting sponsored to DO something for the scene, that excites me. THAT is real money coming into the scene. That is progress for all of us.

Putting some guys in a hotel for a weekend, and maybe chipping in for venue fee… not so much.

HAV I respect you a lot more about reading your extended thoughts on the matter. I can’t say I care that much about people getting deals but I still think it’s lame for you to come in and hate on it. Better to just ignore imo.

I know you have a good abel but I can assure you that i’m not a bad player at 4, maybe we should get some games in because I know I can give anyone a good set. Just because I’m not that involved with the SRK message boards doesn’t mean that I’m free. There is also a very distinct difference between being confident in your game and a stuck up prick, which is why I used the word “elitist” with negative connotations.

Yeah saying all these players are sponsored seems like an enormous stretch to me considering most of them are no names. I might as well create my own tag and start repping it in tournaments. I’ll be paying for my tournaments anyway, so it’s like I’m sponsoring myself.
