The Comprehensive Blanka Match Up Thread

Well glad this thread helps… But I also main Guile so I don’t know if that means anything lol. From looking at the tier list, Guile and especially Chun Li counter Blanka’s mismatches. So if you are looking to have a counter to Blanka’s weak characters, those are your best options. According to the list, Chun is actually a better choice then Guile when looking to counter Blanka’s mismatches, but Chun Li just hasn’t clicked with me the way Guile and Blanka has.

Ken write up posted. I wouldn’t call it complete, but it’s something for now. I will go back and add stuff to that write up and any other one if needed. Next we need to get all of Blanka’s mismatches. Since we have some Dudley information already posted and I play against a pretty decent Dudley player, we should probably do him next. I personally do not think Dudley is much of a mismatch. 5.5 - 4.5 at worse. Blanka’s Standing Jab dominates this match and if you can dominate a match with one poke, I don’t see how it can be that bad of a match for Blanka.

theres a bit of honda in the long range section of ken.

i used to play this one ken who completely nullified blanka ball at quarter screen and further by doing fierce srk every single time, i’ve never played anyone or seen any jap vids of anyone with such an ability. But his overall game was not quite at that level so he didn’t do much damage at tournaments, but his reaction srk to blanka balls was off the charts!

If a Ken starts to dp you at quarter screen, make him come even closer before you Ball to make it even harder for him to react. Also, throw out random pokes as fakes and then Ball. That shit works very well. You throw out quick normals and the Ken player for some reason thinks its ok to come forward. Show him its not by tagging him with a ball after your normal.

Nishikin was baiting Daigo’s DP using lp ball. Ken’s DP might have enough range to beat it though…

Rog vs. Blanka is still 7-3 IMO.

Yea that match is pretty shitty. Balrog is the original reason why I picked Guile and in tournaments I use Guile in that match. Cammy is a pretty bad match too. But again, Guile dominates that match also. I will learn the matches with both characters, but if i have to counter pick to cover Blanks weaknesses, I will.

I was watching what I believed to be a money match between Hiro and Arturo this weekend. Of course Arturo is a well known Dhalsim player. Hiro lost the money match, but he actually had no problems getting in on Arturo’s Dhalsim. He made some bad chioces (IMO of course) and some executional errors once he did get in, but getting in seemed like a non issue. I was impressed. I think the match was saved on ustream. I’ll try to link it if it is when I get home.

Anyone know anything about the Hakan matchup? The Japanese wiki lists it as 6:4 in favour of Hakan.

THe lask Hakkan match I played I tested him for a round. Dont ball cause he can oil slide on block, Hakkan wants to get in on you, so space out elec reps for bar so you can use it for runaway rainbow rolls when cornered. jab pressure worked good because his throw doesnt have the startup of giefs and can be stuffed pretty easily. Just watch for long range pokes that move him forward and be prepared to block and run.

The hakkan I played likely didnt know the matchup enough so we were likely guessing at each others gameplan… I dont know about you, but if I see a grappeler, I run the hell away.

He actually ended up sitting full screen and taunting for the last 45 seconds of the final round because he couldnt get his hands on me. then sent me a message saying playing turtles is boring.

I’ve been playing a couple of Cammy players recently and you probably already know this, but Blanka’s Ultra 2 anti-air can punish Cammy’s ultra (on block of course) and it is an easy punish. Possibly also punish her srk-type kick move (cannon spike?), but I haven’t tested this, (definately punishes her ultra blocked for big damage. Of course the top Cammy’s won’t be throwing out raw ultras nilly-willy, but it should help the match-up imo)

can’t reversal hop > U1 do it for more damage? i’m not sure i think so though

To be honest, I’m not sure either.

The thing is U2 AA does 510 damage (iirc from a full ultra), and imo it’s an easier input as you don’t need to hop (I often make mistakes using the command hop as instead of doing the hop he’ll do an ex rainbow ball. Obviously you’ll probably have better execution so that probably won’t be an issue for you. Still a horses for courses type affair though).

Also (again haven’t tested this yet) but I think U2 ground version can punish her spiral arrows (or whatever the move is where she goes horizontally across the ground) on reaction depending on your spacing so that’s potentially another option.

Ye you can punish cannon spike with hop ultra 1 and ultra 2 kkk. Ultra 1 does more damage but ultra 2 does decent damage too, about 420. Id go with ultra 2 cos its an easier punish than the hop, it can be hard to react with a hop ultra if you are getting rushed down hard I find. Its easier to to do the aa version off a crumple too compared to comboing into ultra 1. You have the aa version too if they mess up a jumpin or dive kick too. I definitely think ultra 2 is better ultra in this match.

Sorry I can’t help much here. I just got blown up by a Cammy player in a recent tournament. I really don’t know the match too well and I don’t even think I will bother using Blanka in it anymore. Think I will be using all Guile in that match from now on. :frowning:

The new Japanese tier list came out. It agrees with something I said for a while now which is Honda beats Blanka. First tier list to actually admit it lol.

Between the old matchup thread round 2, the Super matchup thread, and this comprehensive one, the Cammy matchup has only been glazed. We know that her Strike pressure shuts down all of Blanka’s footsies game, but no one has broken down what Blanka need to do and not do to win this match against a competant Cammy.

Obviously full screen is a pointless place to be unless you’re holding the lead, and point blank against anyone with dives is a no-no, so I imagine mid range is ideal. I tried to approach it like the Rufus match, heavy backdashing, slide punish dives when possible, stay grounded and seal all balls away - while this keeps you out of the most painful and dangerous places, it doesn’t give enough damage output with ocassional defensive mixups. Crounching HP is dangerous to throw out as ever.

Walking piano-elec pressure/jab-hop/throw mixups is good for training them to DP you, which of course you then block and punish, but a smart Cammy won’t fall for it, and will retreat to restart Strike pressure.

Turtling is key as always, but it’s difficult to find opportunities in this match.

Standing hard kick >= Cannon strike(uh the one where she jumps forward and does a downward kick) The timing is weird but isn’t too hard after a little practice. You have to wait until she almost hits you with it, then bam nail her with it. That will put her on notice that cannon strike isn’t free on you. You’ll get an even trade, a trade in your favor, a clean hit, or she’ll get a clean hit if you miss. Focus attack > Cannon Drill outside of combos or when she’s less than maybe a body length away because you probably won’t have enough time to charge your focus attack, the kick will break it up if you both do it at the exact same time. Be prepared to do this twice in a row because Cammies love to spam. :lol: Cannon drill, cannon drill, cannon drill, cannon spike, cannon spike, cannon spike, cannon spike, Cannon drill cannon spike, cannon strike cannon spike.

I stand corrected - that does address it all. It also reinforces my fears - there really IS nothing to say about the match besides listing out all thing things Cammy can stuff.

So basically, walk back a lot, turtle, and pray for a crumple into U2 to make up the damage you WILL lose. Christ.

just want to point out about abel that i found out that he can punish a horizontal ball with a change of direction if he slightly walks up. that sucks :frowning:
