The Complete Alex Thread

Oh thanks, I was convincing myself with what he said (sad me).

What is the correct range/timing to combo the ex knee grab, everytime I do it on the ground it seems to miss?

Oh and can’t you use the 2lk-2mk chain as a low threat ?

On shotos, you have to be right up close and they have to be standing, so that basically renders it useless. Poor Alex.

I never use c.LK, c.MK myself. I would rather just try for the tick powerbomb instead even though it isn’t guaranteed. That kick chain doesn’t do enough damage or stun, and even if it hits, I doubt your opponent would feel threatened by it.

And for the record c.LK, c.HK isn’t a link or chain. It doesn’t combo at all under any circumstances. I don’t even know where people got it from.

c.lk , c.mk does combo. Done it 43248234 times. But it suck and has no real use so I don’t know why I said anything. Also some one said somthing about sa3. I only use sa3 on chun li. otherwise its always sa2.

Why do yo use SA3 on Chun?

cr.short cancels into his special moves but nothing really combos.
cr.short,cr.forward isn’t really a threat. You should just use cr.short and walk up power bomb or another mixup.

You should be concentrating on your opponents mistakes. Big part of it is footsies. Don’t stick out too much cuz your attacks are slow compared to others like chun. Look for whiffed attacks and use EX shoulder, cr.strong/forward or cr. roundhouse. St. strong and F.Strong are good AA against air opponents. And Stun as much as you can.

The bar is short. it lets me turtle vs chun… i run away till i get it. if i have it i wake up with it every time… kinda telling chun to back the fuck off. i wake up with it make it a guessing game for chun too… shoulder charge jab or strong stungun… and if she guesses right (by dashing the right way ) oh well no counter… and if she jabs me out of it… oh well… she hit me with a jab…i get just about three stun gun attempts per round… ones ganna hit… and if more do GG. lets say i throw out stun gun and it doesn’t hit i start running away and turtling to get another one… chun is most likely going to come after me becuase she doesn’t want me to get another stun gun… and thats what alex wants an offensive chun… its still hard but defensive chuns are even harder… its just a little strat I came up with… so far for me its work really really well.

If someone playing Alex starts charging his meter for stungun I’d usually let him and charge up myself. Unless you’re really good at baiting, chances are I’ll just reverse it anyways. I played some Alex who just did the charge -> stungun over and over, and I just kept reversing it (I was Hugo so shootdown), and he just wouldn’t give up

Chun Li can’t knock Alex out of stungun by b.fp?

I might try that strat against chun.
But the only thing I would be worried about is chun charging all of her meter
as well. Against a chun i try to apply as much pressure as i can before she has super.
That way I can take more risks because, chun really cant punish without super.

well if you ever do stun gun on wakeup, what’s stopping chun from pressuring you with c.lp, then simply dashing forward and supering you on your way back down?

I don’t understand you people… if you want to try to knock alex out of stungun with back fierce with chun HAHA be my guest. secound of all… somone said somthing about pressuring and then simply supering after… and if i had another super and threw it out randomly and biffed it would be different? You ganna dash forward every time alex wakes up?.. oh and if you just let alex get stungun your prolly riding the shortbus cuase that’s prolly the only way a really solid chun will lose. and again this is vs chun if somone picks stungun vs hugo promptly strap a bomb to their forehead. There are thousands of setups for stungun that are safe hit or no hit.

Does backfierce hit out of stun gun??
I always thought Chuns ctanding jab would hit it out easy.

I was talking about after the stun gun super freeze. We talking about Alex waking up right? If you’re right next to Alex when he does wake up Stun Gun, you can dash up after the super freeze to avoid it.

I tested out the Chun vs Stungun approach.

I specifically tested the shouldercharge -> stungun setup that is used online quite too much. Backfierce doesn’t work. The best solution is to jab, then dash for the crossup / fake crossup to d.mk -> SAII. There are other solutions though. If you do a standing strong punch, you will either hit Alex out of stungun or miss and end up behind him, which leads to a d.mk crossup (though there is more time for Alex to react). The advantage to the strong punch solution is that if Alex mixes up with a jab stungun instead of a strong one, the punch will still hit, so if you want to avoid the chance of missing the jab, I think s.mp the safer move.

Does ex headstomp have any invincibility frames?
I thnk ex rising knee does, but I wasnt sure.

what does ‘meaty’ imply?

A “meaty” is an attack done on the opponent’s wakeup so that your hitframes are overlapping the other guy when he stands up. So far as I know, they’re great for stuffing reversals, though I’m sure there’s other things about them that I don’t know.

EX stomp has no invinc. frames and I don’t think EX Knee does either though the EX Knee has good priority.

A meaty attack is done when your opponent gets up and rises into your attack that hits late in its attacking phase and thus enable you to get an early attack and is hard to reverse. If you attack too early the attack will whiff and if you attack late the opponent can reverse it. Meaty attacks enable you to combo and sometimes a combo that wouldn’t necessary be done without a meaty attack cuz it hits late in its frames.

EX knee does have invincibility. If it didn’t, KSK wouldn’t be able to beat out wake ups with it like he does in those ranbats.

I haven’t seen those ranbats. I just thought it had priority.

Yeah…just having priority would make it useless against stuff on wake up. You need to catch up on your ranbats though.
