The Complete Alex Thread

Sorry if this was mentioned in luciphers post but if you hit a mid air opponent with dash elbow then you should be able to connect mp sa3

@ Savaii. I can hit that, the timing is a little strict, but I don’t think it’s wise to connect that off of dive. Toward HP does about the same damage, and you don’t waste meter. For a sick, but impractical combo check this at around the 1 minute mark:

The only way to do that is to hit them with the Dive at the apex of their jump.

That combo was friggin sickkkkk. I’ve been in similar situations but the only thing I end ip doing is either going straight to the hp overhead or to mp reset. I only ever get that to work if I guess right, that the opponent wants to get out bad enough to jump for it after a blocked attack.

That’s what I tend to do. Put pressure on them, try to make them fuck up, Dive or do something else. I tend to be a little too random with the Dive, but it’s too much fun catching people with it.

Just an FYI, Alex’s jLP can beat the Dive Kick . So if you’re having trouble against patterned Yun’s, at least you know what to do to keep their pressure off.

Quick check: If Ken does LP SRK, Alex can punish with Sweep or crMP, right? Because on GGPO it seems like you can never punish that.

Offline it works. GGPO is another story tho.

Just what I thought. Thanks bro.

Might be a dumb question but any advice against Ryu? This might seem retarded because Ken/Akuma don’t give me many problems (lag on GGPO gives me more problems with them than anything else) but with Ryu it’s really, really tough to get in there if the player knows Ryu’s footsie game well. It seems like all of Ryu’s normals beats anything Alex does. And if the Ryu player can parry well enough, you’re really fucked. I fell like I have to either jump in or use EX Shoulder Rush to get in there, but all it takes is one knockdown and shoto players get on a roll to really fuck you up.

IMHO Alex’s worst matchups:

Chun (der)
Yun (another der)
Elena (really good footsies, difficult to get in)
Ryu (Ditto above)
Toss up between Remy/Makato.

Remy/Makato for different reasons. They can both be defeated if you know what you’re doing, but it can be difficult against Remy players if they know that keep-away game and can parry. With Makato it’s all because of her command grab that is such a bitch to deal with sometimes. Plus her footsies are really good, but not broken like Chun’s.

Another quick check to confirm how bad GGPO might be for 3S. I knock the other guy down, I do sHP, is it normal for the other guy to grab you out of it? Because I’ve noticed that Urien players like to do that a lot.

Sometimes with a good lockdown Ryu, I try to wait him out or instigate a rush down attempt with a taunt or something. Anything for them to bring the fight to me. I agree with you that Ryu can out prioritize Alex quite easily.

Also, I have been grabbed out a meaty s.HP on ggpo from a lot of characters same as being grabbed out a powerbomb on their wakeup. I am told that the powerbomb can be interrupted because it is not as fast as Hugo’s moonsault but s.HP should hit fine if it was timed right. So if they rise while Alex still has his arm raised, they can throw him.

I figured. Because I timed it to knock Urien out of his Headbut spam, and they’re able to instantly grab online. Same with Alex’s DDT for whatever reason.

Plenty of people DON’T hate mortal kombat. Especially compared the third strike which is an inbalanced as fuck game. But oh well, this is a 2-3 year old post I got pissed at, whats the point.

I got rocked by a Ibuki…SJ Cancels multi hit air normals…crossups you name I got slammed by it. How do you guys handle a really good Ibuki?

Due to lag, Ibuki has a big advantage. Best advice I can give is that sHP and tMP are your friend. And if she tries that crossup shit, punish it with Stomps. 90% of the time they never see the stomp coming.

Saw that the other day. He’s got heaps of good advice. Trying to apply that advice via ggpo is another story though

It’s still very applicable. The great difficulty with Yun isn’t so much his V-ism, but the Dive kick and crossup. The crossup is really hard to block online.

Found something interesting with Alex. Don’t know how applicable it may be (I’d assume it’s worthless against Shoto’s) but it may be worth exploring. I was fighting a parry-happy Urien. And I knocked him down, did sMK, then did LP Powerbomb. And the guy parried the sMK, but the Powerbomb went through and took his down. This worked twice in the same match. I really have to test this out, but like I said, it may be worth exploring.

Alex has an advantage over people who like to parry everything; he’s got the Powerbomb, and the DDT. DDT is far from worthless, it’s made for people who like to parry everything. I just wish it hit crouching enemies.

Okay another matchup question: This time against Yang.

I’m starting to figure out Yun and starting to win more matches. But Yang I don’t know. It looks like he has a lot of safe stuff such as MP, HP, <HP and LK, MK, HK. The Dive spam and Dive Crossups still get me. The Dive gives the Twins so many options, and with Alex it’s really hard to counter it. Another problem is crMK into Rekka, and EX Rekka. The EX rekka because he can mix it up, he can delay that last hit, and if you don’t have meter you can’t punish it with EX Shoulder because it pushes him away, and sometimes I hit him with EX shoulder after Rekka and he’s still safe and punishes me. The crMK into Rekka is troublesome because a lot of Alex’s normals are slow and have a lot of recovery. So if I expect to jump at me, and I do crHP, even if I’m a bit a ways from him I can still eat that combo. Unlike the Shotos which the worse thing they can do is Super (which they would do on reaction) or most likely just Sweep me.

Links to any high level Alex vs Yang/Yun matches? I’ve only found one with Genki.

Who is this Alex player using his Yellow pallete?

He uses SA1 and manages to land it in some pretty good/interesting situations.
EDIT: The end of the match against Ibuki is just :wow:
