THE Combo Video thread (New Releases + Commentary)

hey Majestros, I know that you love CvS2 and I have a few Gigs in my comp of CvS2 Tournaments, maybe you have already everything that I got or maybe not but if I have some stuff that you dont have yet about CvS2 I can post it (as long theres no legal issues)

and about CvS2: this is a fight from the SBO2 qualifications showing a crazy Raiden player:

I really really don’t want to get into another bootleg “legality” debate in this thread so just use your judgement on what is and what isn’t appropriate. If a lot of people complain, you can always apologize and take it down.

Also, i’m a lot more interested in CvS2 combo/glitch videos than match videos, but if anyone has some really good matches with crazy combos/glitches going on, feel free to post those. Just make sure you provide a comment that explains what you found interesting about the video.

commentary:
Alpha 2 matches!! … sorta kinda almost. It’s actually Zero 2 Alpha, but we’ll take what we can get. The Rose player keeps doing lvl1 Friends and then doing 10% damage with that drill thing. I know it’s obvious but i’m commenting on it anyway cuz that’s funny to me.

^No wonder why that super is beast. 10% off chip!

LOL, japanese guy with an Xbox. The bike game is Downhill Domination.

CFJ Karin corner crossup craziness
homepage: http://web1.nazca.co.jp/bearso/
(click on third link in top row - the one that starts with CFJ)

commentary:
Shows a couple of corner crossup tricks during CC, using Karin’s rekka ken move as a setup. That last one is the most deceptive one, and also the most confusing because it pushes them all the way into the corner and she still gets the crossup. Seems like CFJ has more corner problems than CvS2.

Daigo HSF matches

(fair warning: the HSF files are in rm format)

commentary:
Daigo beats Frionel’s Balrog with Ryu and then switches to Fei Long. He probably wasn’t allowed to do that but i’m sure nobody cared because it was Daigo. And i’m sure Frionel didn’t care because he just got beat perfect by Ryu. Bas did the same sort of thing at (i think it was) B5. He beat GQ’s V-Sodom with V-Akuma and then GQ switched to V-Rolento so Bas switched to V-Cody. For those of you who don’t go to tournaments, you’re only supposed to switch characters when you lose. Bas is cheap!
Anyway, Daigo does the same thing again in the second vid, switching from Balrog to DeeJay. In the third vid at 0:27, Daigo somehow manages to block high against Balrog’s c.MK after a knockdown. Someone explain that please. When he wins, he switches to Ken. Wins again, switches to Gief!

There is a strange quirk in old school SF where you can block low attacks while standing, and also you can block overhead attacks while holding D/B (but your character won’t duck). You simply need to switch your blocking stance at the last possible second. In that vid, Daigo was duck blocking, the opponent pushed the button for cr.Forward, and then just before it hit, Daigo switched to stand blocking. Because he blocked an attack during that transition between ducking and standing, it gives him the standing animation with ducking properties.

Those Zero 2 Alpha matches were on the Saturn version.

You can tell because Gief’s walking backwards animation is missing, and he has his cape animation opening so that rules out PS1 version.

Just thought I’d point that out cause I’m nerdy like that.

Random Japanese SFA3 matches
homepage: http://www.arcade.from.tv/zero/

commentary:
Seems to be the final four of a small tournament. The players have been in random a-cho and VIP vids before. That V-Karin infinite is cheap. It’s amazing that the A-Gen player manages to survive, surrounded by top tier V-Ism characters all the time. But he pulls out some clutch combos, manages to escape V-Karin’s infinite, and his counter/escape for crossups seems to work pretty damn well.

That’s DARK. His Gen is a monster. Crazyiest Gen I’ve ever seen.

This thread is awesome… informative, and if anything for the video links.

Thanks guys.

that gen was awesome its good seeing some a3 without v-akuma.

thats DARK (a-gen) from v.i.p zero3 site and he does rock.

Has anyone been having trouble with SRK’s Rep system? When i click the simley face thing, it just scrolls up to the top of the page like i just clicked on a HTML anchor and does nothing. An “Error on Page” notice appears in the browser status bar.

MJ#R: What does that trophy thing next to your name mean?

Trophy = Champion in a game in the SRK arcade.

Thanks alot Maj for all the cool videos the daigo HSF ones were awesome. I can’t believe he did the cr.fierce to super! so hard! I can never do that in a match.

As for the trophy thing yeah thats what it is. But it’s dumb because if you have negative rep you can’t play. So if someone decides to be an ass and neg you for something stupid. You can’t play. (sad)

Bas CvS2 Matches

commentary:
At 0:53 in the third vid, A-Sakura connects with a divekick as Blanka is getting up, then she jumps forward and counters Blanka’s KKK backhop with j.HK midscreen. It’s not that crazy but a lot of Blanka players mash on that when they’re in trouble so it’s good to know you have that available. Anyway if the Blanka player hadn’t done it, she would have gone for j.MK crossup instead. It’s just cool because there’s normally very little you can do to discourage Blanka from using that get-out-of-jail-free card midscreen.

SF2:WW No Damage Speedruns by ShadoeX & A1Major

movie page: http://www.persona-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8

commentary:
Although these vids are probably captured on emulator, it doesn’t look like they used any tools to do them. It’s not like they completed the game in the absolute fastest time possible - they just played smart and didn’t get hit. I mean, check out how long he takes to kill Honda with Guile. That’s all AI exploits and anyone can figure out how to manipulate cpu characters with some testing.
In the Guile run, he just walks forward full screen and throws Ryu. Pretty gutsy. I also like the air throws against Ken because air throws are cool. Damn, that Flash Kick against Vega’s wall dive does like 40% damage. Guile’s whole strategy against cpu Vega is pretty cool though, mostly just using j.HK to randomly hit Vega for no good reason. Haha check out the foreground tree in Sagat’s stage!
It’s pretty funny seeing Ryu’s DP do 50% damage against Dhalsim and still not knock down. Ryu vs Guile makes Guile look retarded. At 9:25 i think Ryu’s fireball hits two barrels at once. That tree on Sagat’s stage is still funny. It’s also funny seeing M.Bison trying to punish a blocked DP with Psycho Crusher considering that move had like 5 minute start-up in WW.
Somebody watch the Zangief vid and give us some comments if anything cool happened.

About five days passed between the last two updates because i couldn’t find anything new or exciting. Some days are just slow. It wasn’t me neglecting this thread or slacking off if that’s what you were thinking. In fact i don’t appreciate your tone at all. Why back in my day, broadband connections were powered by pedaling on a stationary bicycle. You kids these days have it easy.

i am Spy Hunter champ :]

Heh, well i don’t mean zero new stuff was released. I watched a lot of random stuff the last few days, but nothing seemed all that interesting to me. Then again, i can only provide decent commentary for Capcom fighting games.

For instance, i’d be really interested in reading some footnotes on KoF matches. I gotta admit that i have no idea how to tell a good match from a mediocre match in SNK games, since most of it just looks like random hopping around to me. The same goes for combos, because SNK games tend to have assists and 90 kinds of cancels. It’s so easy to do extended combos that it can be difficult to tell the simple ones from the advanced ones. Watching KoF combos in the later half of the series is like watching CvS2 EX-Groove combo videos - it’s easy to get 89789723434 hits without any creativity at all.

So those of you that are KoF experts, VF experts, GG experts, and so on … feel free to post your thoughts in this thread whenever you happen to see a really good video.

SFA Sagat combo clip
homepage: http://dsgs.kofunion.net
movie page: http://dsgs.kofunion.net/note.html

commentary:
These guys do some pretty advanced combos for all sorts of random emulated games. If i had to guess, i’d say they use random emulator tools to pull off some of the more complicated setups, but that’s not exactly a rarity these days. The Sagat combo is cool because he combos after the lvl2 Tiger Cannon without using an interrupt setup.
Almost all of the combos on this website are good, but it takes forever to get them. Usually it doesn’t connect and you have to try 9879823434 times to get each download started.
