THE Combo Video thread (New Releases + Commentary)

am.sega.jp are the Virtua Fighter guys. They host a lot of random stuff as well as regular streaming matches from VF4ft tournaments.

Someone needs to make a video of just the retarded shit from the arcade SF: The Movie game. There’s so much stupid shit you can find in like 5 minutes, such as teleporting past the opponent into their corner then infinitely jabbing them to death, SBKing through the opponent into the corner then lightning legs to death, infinite hurricane kicks with Akuma in the corner, etc . Just set it to the Benny Hill theme and you’ll be good to go.

LOL, love to, but don’t know how to record from MAME.

But thanks for telling me more broken stuff I didn’t know. Maybe Mr. Whitefolk could do this.

^-- Can you just do screen capture via CamTasia or the Windows Media Encoder or that kind of thing… ?

EDIT in response: Windows Media Encoder is free.

I was hoping for a free program that does this.

Actually, if anyone is interested in making a combo video, there are a whole bunch of random ideas listed in this thread:
http://combovideos.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=851

Vic, you can use Mame 90 or one of the HK2 Mames that have built in AVI recording.

Thanks. Now to figure out how to get the cheats to work on the MAME32k 0.90. It doesn’t seem to find it. Also, save states don’t seem to work.

I better bump my SF:TM thread then, cause so far 3 broken combos aren’t enough. I may have to add Tattoo Assassin combos in this.

Yeah, its a combo vid on shitty games.

the world is not ready for Tattoo Assassin combo vids

GGXX#r combo video with a lot of full damage combos and stuff. But i dunno how good it is because these days GGX videos make less sense to me than Marvel. So uh, judge for yourself or something.

There are also a bunch of new CvS2 matches on Kim’s site. You’re probably gonna have to use a download program like GetRight to download them though. I got all excited when i saw that K-Guile/Ken/Sagat team because that’s the same team i use in C-Groove. I thought i was gonna see a whole new play style to try out but the guy mostly just gets beat down.

About cheats in Mame 90:
Make a subfolder called /data and put the cheat.dat in there. This one doesn’t seem to like having the cheat.dat with the mame.exe.

You can get a new cheat.dat in this Mame dist here:
http://www.hawq.dsl.pipex.com/mame32Hp4.htm

and you can get (I think) the last official cheat.dat here:
http://cheat.retrogames.com/

The new one seems to work ok in .90, though.

About states, unless you controls got changed, it should be the same:
F7 to save (choose a position to save to, I usually use numbers), LeftShift + F7 to load (choose the number).

State loading does have a tendency to screw up the background music (at least in CPS2 games).

Absolutely insane.

Yeah, I did this and everytime I do this, MAME closes.

Lots of SNK stuff today. Persona’s Kisarah video has a lot of crazy OTG stuff. Looks like with certain setups, she’s getting two or three OTG’s in a row. I’d like to know how that works and what the limitations are on that.

Lots of NGBC clips on this Dream Maker website. They all seem to be in shockwave format. Check out the Kyo custom (right now it’s the third clip from the top, under two Mr.Big clips). He whiffs basically every single special move in Kyo’s arsenal in that combo. The combos with the skull symbol are 100% combos i think.

Lots of random KoF clips on this V4U website (mostly KoF2k3 and KoFNW). They’re actually pretty good so if you’re down with those games, check em out. The one named “KoF MAD14” also has three minutes worth of KoFMI combos, including some cool Leona/Mai airthrow combos and what looks like a Ryo infinite.

About the Kisarah OTG, it has sure hit properties so as long as her b D touches the opponent, it’ll hit. But it will only work if you do the entire string [any button, f D, b D]. The first two attacks whiff while the third kick hits. If it hits too high, the opponent will fly up, if it hits any lower than that, it’ll slam the opponent onto the ground, and if it’s lower than that, it OTGs. So even though it looks like a lot of OTG hits, it’s actually only one.

And I must say, I love that NBC site, never knew about the Athena setups and the Mr. Big and Goodman combos (gives me something new to think about). Great site.

EDIT: After studying the vids more, the thing that I wonder is if they used a program pad or not. Reason that it comes to mind is the Mr. Big and Haohmaru combos.

I would also like to say I dunno how to use the replay option since my CD is bugged so I wouldn’t know.

Mr. Big’s A, f A, qcf A. Since his f A comes out instantly, you will have to do the qcf motion instantly. Since it’s f and you have to do qcf instantly, a dp will come out 99% of the time. There’s only two ways that I can think of on how to get the qcf A to come out instead of the dp. 1) delay qcf A as much as you can (sometimes it will come out but be too slow to connect) or 2) keep doing it until you’re lucky. But the player seems to get it right like 5 times in a row in one of the vids, and it doesn’t even look like he delays the qcf A. If this is the case, then he probably is doing things by frames or using the replay option(?). The label of the combo seems to say something about PS2 stage but I can’t read the kanji. If I can pull off long combos but can’t pull off a simple qcf A, then there has to be something wrong with this combo.

Haohmaru’s dash dp WITHOUT stepping. Either the player is damn fast or me, everyone I know who’s tried it, the people in the SRK NBC thread, the Arcadia combo DVD players, etc, suck. And yeah, I’ve NEVER been able to do it without stepping. I’m mentioning this because stepping takes half a stock, so without stepping would have the upper edge. I could be wrong here since some of the combos use Athena’s stock plant, but from what I saw, they weren’t using any stocks for the dp.

The two for EX3 are as follows

The first clip is of Ace (editable character), doing his two multi-command moves (commands are not in the game, nor the game manual but the offical guide has it along with faqs from gamefaq).

The 2nd clip is of Garuda doing his CP. Which is sadly pretty brain dead easy. Shuga, qcf+HP+HK to activate CP, then SC into his qcbqcb+k over and over again (hold one kick down to charge up the move while you supercancel into another one with another kick), after CP ends, he juggles it with another shuga into a HP momentary. The actions of Bison during the CP are unintended and was either controlled by player 1 or the CPU.

he needs nerfing immediately

completely breaks the game

Persona: It’s pretty safe to assume that anyone in Japan making cutting-edge combos is using programmable controllers. That’s just the accepted norm over there. Even TZW used custom-made sticks with rapid-fire buttons and stuff. As for your CD, why don’t you return it to the store for a better copy? Even if there is no return policy, the game itself should have a manufacturer’s warranty that covers defects.

OK, I finally made a combo vid on Rimururu’s infinite on SS4:

Only problem, the life bar flickers too much. Well, first I record it uncompressed on MAME32k 0.90. Then I tried to lower the size with DivX, but as you can tell, life bar isn’t visible.

Also note, I stopped around 30 Hits, just to show the opponent’s blocking and it can’t be blocked in the middle. Well, I actually messed up the chain timing but you can tell its just linking another chain after the 13th Hit of the CD chain.

Okay so here are a few small updates.

Howared Arena has updated yet again. More MOTW goodness. Those guys are good, but sometimes that game looks so scrubby, wakeup supers all over the place. OH well it works I guess.

Endless Duel teaser thing on CV

I haven’t watched it yet, but this game is like cracked out SF 2 turbo from what I hear. alot of the same concepts, with beam supers and infinites and shit.
