I wonder if anyone has ever played that Castlevania Judgement game for the wii, do people still play it?

Hey found my old Castlevania Timeline chart that I got from the pre-order bonus with Portrait of Ruin because friends donāt let friends check Wikipedia if they donāt have to lol!
Yeah Lament takes place during 1094 and LOS takes place during 1022. Seperate universes of course but that still makes LOS the oldest Castlevania game in the franchise.
I think they still have enough years to play around with if they ever change their minds and decide to make LOS fit in with everything else since the only glaring contradiction I see is Draculaās pressence in LOS, but whatever. So long as itās a good game all of this other stuff is secondary.
As a total side note, ever since Castlevania II whenever they ask me to enter my name in any Castlevania game I always write SIMON. For Dawn of Sorrow it was hella trippy after playing the series for so many year to be able to write SIMON with the stylus and to see SIMON written in my own handwriting every time I fired the game up. I thought that was really cool.
Snuff562 - I like Judgement. No one plays it online anymore though, very hard to find matches. Well for the Wii I find it pretty hard to find matches for fighting games that are not named Smash Bros. or TVC, but letās face it both of those games sold better than Judgement. Not a legendary fighting game or anything but fun to mess around with. If you can get past Ohbataās redesigns which was a deal breaker for so many people. Me I didnāt mind it but this had more to do with me being tired of Ayami Kojimaās designs and redesigns and just being an overall Death Note fan. I thought it was a nice change of pace for a crazy crossover fighter that canāt ever happen in any Castlevania timeline anyway.
I just wish Frankensteinās Monster and Medusa were in the game. Igaās favorite Castlevania game is part III which really explains the entire main cast of that game taking up space. I suppose Carmilla and Golem are nice trade offs for Frank and Medusa looking back.

So now you made me think that its like god of war with an emphasis on exploring. I still say meh. I like the castlevania games but im not gonna get all excited for this one. Every 3D one I have played left a bad taste in my mouth.
85 so far for LOS on metacritic which is what I expected the score to be around. Read a few reviews, from both ends of the spectrum. IGN one felt mailed in and was written quickly to meet a deadline. Gamespot made some good points.
Out of the negatives none of them bother me too much. Any annoying puzzles can be skipped and you can make up the experience given up by backtracking and re-playing previous levels and fighting the enemies again.
Iām used to fixed cameras since a lot of action games use it, especially Capcom ones like Onimusha, DMC and RE. Generous checkpoints should mitigate any major frustrations from missed jumps due to weird camera angles. I still think a semi fixed camera wouldāve served better allowing you to pan around the room a bit to help locate hidden rooms/items and to stop and enjoy the art direction and architecture of the levels.

from that last platform, look to the right while facing the wall,
youāll see where you have to go right?-instead,
try to run up the wall of the platform trying to keep facing the landing site, jump off the wall, and fly towards the landing site.
avoid that wall with no platform attached to it.
avoid it completely.

Yeah man, fixed camera is a MAJOR WTF. In a game that looks that damn good I wanted to be able to look at everything.
Itās gonna make me sad beyond words if this game does play like GoW. I hate GoW games with a passion.

I like the N64 games and LoI, but I fucking hate Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. I replayed most of HoD recently, to see if it was as shitty as I remember it, but I actually ended up really enjoying this recent playthrough. You can cancel all kinds of shit with dashes/dives, you can even whip then backdash or dashforward, whipping cancels dashes as well. Iām going to rent LoS, itās going to have to exceed my expectations for me to buy it, since at its core itās an action game and those never take me long to beat.
Iām not sure if you even realize what youāre typing. God of War has an emphasis on exploring? Okay, first of all, the first two GoW games (have not played the third yet) did have some secrets that rewarded you for exploring a little bit, but the levels were fairly linear and there was no emphasis on exploring. Iām getting the impression you donāt like exploring⦠but Iām assuming you like the other Castlevania games (all the Metroidvania games)? Correct me if Iām wrong in that case and you only like the OG Castlevania games. Otherwise, my mind is completely blown away.
What about God of War do you dislike? <-- Mere curiosity. Is it that, despite the myriad of moves, you can rely on about two-ish? Though I enjoy the games, thatās my big issue.

Baba Yaga, the Russian fairytale character, is in the game too. In elementary school, one of my teachers told translated Russian fairytales, so I like those few times I see Baba Yaga used.

Oh my mistake. Youāre right. I read it wrong. Iām a fucking idiot. Sorry. But I dunno, actual combat has never been Castlevaniaās staple. Like the games have never had a deep combat system before. The OG games were just a normal attack with some sub weapons, and the Metroidvania games werenāt particularly deep either (it was about item combinations rather than the combat itself). It wasnāt until Lament of Innocence where some sort of depth was added into combat, but that was 3D Castlevaniaās only good game. To be honest, combat is the least of my concerns for what makes a really good Castlevania game.
You hit the big issue right on the head. Combat in that game is not fun. At all. Not only do they like their QTE business a bit too much with the finishing kills, the attacks and skills that you had access to were mostly terrible and forced you to spam the same strings to get anything done. Also, the blocking. Maybe Iām doing something wrong in these newer action titles that put block mechanics in, but it always seems like when they do, they almost want you to force it upon you instead of being an option; aka you sit there and turtle while waiting for counter opportunites. I like my action titles more like Devil May Cry (the REAL one, not that rubbish Ninja Theory is producing who makes games with the exact same problems). I had this issue with the Xbox Ninja Gaiden games also; it became a game of how fast you could spam Flying Swallow/Flock of Swallows.
The other thing was I never cared much about what was going on in the game since itās heavily based in Greek and Roman myth. I just never got into the Greek mythology kick. Even though I love art history (was considering majoring in it before the 3D modeling thing) I wasnāt as fascinated by the Greek/Roman art as I was other eras (like Rococo, or Baroque for example, the art from the Baroque period was amazing). Donāt get me wrong though, the folks at SCE did actually put together a pretty coherent and well told plot for an action game.
so iām guessing in lament of innocence you can use your whip in some moments to swing from platform A to platform B? like tarzan on a vine. am i right?
i mean, i remember on the nes, first castlevania, the point of the main character having a whip as a weapon was so that when he wasnāt using it to kill enemies he was using it like indiana jones in getting from one hard to reach platform to another.
as for curse of darkness, is there like platforming using the whip?
whats so wrong with CoD? other than reading people complaining about its simplified combat.

No. Though he does use to reach up to higher platforms. Like say you need to get up high and he snaps the whip on the edge and yanks himself up on to the platform. No swinging though. The platforming is not serious business in LoI. I only even remember because you brought that up.

You never used your whip as a tool in the original Castlevania. It was just to kill things and break blocks/candles.

No. The main character uses swords and what not kinda like Alucard. Heās actually a cool character imo, with all that familar/demon summoning he does. Platforming here was just as light as it was in LoI. Nothing to write home about.
Just a few more days. Though Iām only paying $60 I am still filled with a bit of a regret over getting the Limited Edition.
Regarding the blocking: how did you feel about the way Arkham Asylum did it, where (on Hard, at least), you had to hit your counter button (aka, the Batman Button) as you were getting attacked, and couldnāt be in the initiating frames of your own, AND usually had groups to worry about?
The game youāre thinking of is Super Castlevania IV for the SNES. Simon could whip in 8 directions and whip grapple points to swing.
Here in Canadia we have to pay $80 (360) / $90 (PS3) for that business. ⦠which I totally did. For PS3. :sad:
