Asslevania: SOTB
The dark one has returned...
Pretty much what the game is in the first place.
I think they played it safe with LoS1. Disnt stray too far from the program because it was a big budget game that was a new take on a flagging series that was trying to find a new audience. So they went with sounds and a combat system that wouldnāt be entirely unfamiliar.
I feel like LoS2 will depart from that somewhat. LoS as a series has found its groove somewhat so weāll see how 2 turns out.
As for QTEās, MoF hardly has any that Iāve seen thus far (Iām maybe halfway through the game) though Iāve heard they took some out of the new version.
Youāre really missing out if youāre only a couple of Gabrielās moves. His move set is pretty robust and moves easily chain into each other. Its not DMC deep but itās better than GoW (at least the first one anyway)
The n64 games had fall damage so we can put that argument to rest.
And Rondo was a different type of game. It wasnāt the arcade style game the earlier CVs were; it sort of struck a balance. It was truly the game that bridged the gap between the classic games and the Metroidvanias.
What furry said.
Imagine if you in LOS2 would hear something like this :
Dosenāt seem like that would fit at all , right? Cause it wouldnāt.
Music is not a legit complaint on LOS/LOS2.
I think LoS2ās gameplay might rival some of the best of the best in its respective genre(action hack and slash.)
In a perfect world IGA would be shitting out traditional CVās/Metroidvaniaās on PSN/Live/Steam every 1-3 years, and MercurySteam would keep putting out 3D games in the series.
Vampire Killer - October 30, 1986
Metroid - August 6, 1986
All I know is I got THEM BOTH for Christmas, that year.
And Zelda.
With a color T.V. of my own to play them on.
Best.Christmas.Ever.

Once again, other than Rugi no one wants the exact same type of music from the previous games, just the music to ahve more identity.
I honestly donāt know how to fix castlevania. The IGA fan boy in me wants to push for him to take the lead again. Have whats her face do the Art work the one who started with Symphony and then have who ever did the music from that point forward also do music. If Personally I would love sticking with sprites but going with 3d would probably appeal to more people so get some one who can do good 3d combat but donāt make it God of War I donāt know how it could be done but thats what I would want and if they started from a reboot perspective redo LoI and do 3d stories from there. In a way I kinda feel like Dark/Demon Souls is the new Castlevania. They should just get the Souls creator to work with Iga to make a good 3D Castlevania exp. I think that would be awesome.
Do I really have to explain that I was comparing SotN to Metroid and not the NES titles?
(Again, please stop quoting him.)

Point 1: That sounds plausible. I do hate how people compare it to GoW though. Halfway through the game once more weapons and moves are gained it starts to feel a bit more unique and methodical than GoW has ever been. Iām not even trying to elevate one game over the other itās just that LoS forces the player to respond with a bit of tact. Itās one of the few western developed melee action titles that sort of develops a rhythm to itās combat.
Point 2: I need to replay the LoS2 demo but Iām a little worried that Mercury Steam has settled on those three weapons for the whole game which would be sad. Maybe theyāll all have as much depth as the Vampire Killer in LoS or the sub-weapons will open up combat options but I was hoping for a couple more weapons.
Point 3: They strike a right number if QTEs in MoF. Mainly removing them from finishing moves fixes that. Now you just press a button and watch an execution.
I think LoS2 might surprise us when we get to the present day. I expect a bit less orchestral score stuff for that time period.

NSFW (titties) but a fun tribute/parody.
So, I finally got my hands on Castlevania The Adventure: Rebirth on WiiWare. Overall itās pretty damn good, a little on easy side though. I never played the Game Boy titles so I canāt say how accurate it is to the original game but judging from reviews it seems to carry the same overall aesthetic unique to that game including the whip upgrade that gives you a temporary fireball. The funny thing is that the controls are like a hybrid of the NES games and the 16 bit games. Your walk speed is fairly slow and thereās a delay to your whip, you canāt jump on or off stairs, but you have total control of your jump ala Castlevania 4. No item crashes too. But it does carry over use of keys from Rondo and Castlevania X but the reward tends to be more hearts or a whip upgrade rather then a hostage.
Overall itās damn good and check it out if you love the old shit. It blows my mind that Konami has seemingly no interest in porting over the Rebirth WiiWare games. If this was on Android/IOS it would sell like crazy and touch screen controls would work out pretty well as itās not very demanding and plays like the NES titles.
The last stage on Adventure Rebirth is pretty hard though. Will take you a few tries I think. Plus the final battle with Dracula is pretty damn good. Among the better final battles in the franchise. Best final battle probably belongs to Castlevania 3.
LOS was nearly unplayable it was so bad. It was nothing like castlevania and if it had a different name, no one would know it was supposed to be a CV game. The funny thing is, is that it was supposed to be a new IP, they actually did just slap the castlevania name on it halfway through to cash in. So anyone defending it saying its an evolution is just flat out wrong.
Evolution is gradual change, not just one day being I recognizable. Los is not that. Mirror of date was a step I a better direction, but still trash. I appriciate how it was more of a throwback to the older titles and it did actually look like a castlevania this time around but it just wasnāt very good as a game. I recently got and played through the three DS castlevania titles and each one is outstanding. They evolve naturally, albeit slowly, an recycle a lot, but the gameplay is just so much deeper and more fulfilling.
I just canāt wait until Los 2 comes and goes so maybe we can get something fresh for the CV series. Id love to see a ten hour, huge and beautiful 2.5 d castlevania like sotn or aria of sorrow return to consoles. Look at Dante in umvc3 and imagine an Alucard in that style running all over a huge castle with equally stunning graphics and enemies. Thatās what Iām talkin about.
Never thought Iād hear Any of the Metroidvanis + Deep gameplay in the same sentence.
Compared to mashing x like the GoW clone is what I meant.
Yea, totally different from Metroidvaniaās combat system.
Goes back to mashing Y

They definitely played it safe with LoS1 because it was a big financial risk. I understand why they did it, but it paid off .
And if anything, itās more of a ābest ofā game than anything else. They took elements from games like Lament Of Innocence (combat), the 64 games (shimmying, the game changing between exploration, platforming, and straight up action depending on the level), and other games. Anyone who says it isnāt like any of the other CV games, simply hasnāt played the source material or played it enough to see where it comes from.
Personally Iād take LoS over any of the handheld CV games except Dracula X Chronicles. I played the DS games a ton (especially PoR) but they werenāt great games. The stories were average, characters rather dull, and most of the time it was largely recycled assets (and not just the enemies.)
LoS2 is going to be pretty awesome though if the demo is an indication of things to come. And I agree with you about a big 2.5D CV game. 2.5D Castlevania gets my dick harder than Chinese algebra!
To that dude that says sotn was mashing y. It wasnāt mashing. It was a lot of y, but like the older games you had to pick your shots and jumps. Los was literally mashing. Iām not saying sotn was ticket science but compared to Los it is.
@doctamario - I get what youāre saying about the handhelds ds games being recycled but it was mostly portrait of ruin. There was a lot of older stuff in dawn of sorrow but there was a lot of new stuff too as it was the first on the DS. Por more or less just used all of its assets. Order of ecclesia was almost totally fresh, I thought that game was pretty rad. Since I donāt care about characters or the story I thought the ds games were really amazing. Iām only concerned with gameplay. Characters and their origins and their hobbies donāt matter to me if the game plays slick. We have had a full on console style metroidvanias since sotn like fifteen year ago so with all the new gens abilities, a huge 2.5 in that style is the way to go IMO.
