The Castlevania Thread

Alucard is the best Belmont.

Troll post or fuck you. Either way, we are not amused… >_>

How has this new trailer not be posted in this thread?

Guess I’ll be buying Mirror of Fate HD sooner than expected. I was going to wait on a sale like most games these days but I need my story gaps filled in!!!

But yeah this game is looking amazing and we still haven’t even seen any future stuff but based on that tease of a mech suit in the limited edition art book shown with the European limited edition I’d like to keep it that way. I think there is enough in the past to keep making trailers out of without having to even touch the present day stuff. I want that aspect to be completely fresh to me when I get this in February. Shame there’s not word on Next Gen ports yet. I’d so rather have it on my PS4 but alas…

Edit: Since this game marks the end of the Mercury Steam Saga I’m curious about what Konami will have up their sleeves next. I wonder if Kojima has anything in mind. I think it would be cool to tell another brand new story using the Castlevania mythos again but revolving around controlling a party of heroes instead of just one singular one ala Kingdom Hearts. One thing that always nagged me about some of these games in the series are characters splitting up for no reason. You could control 2-4 heroes in single player as you quest through some ever expanding Castle with some randomized areas/elements. Like a mix of Symphony of the Night with Capcom’s new Deep Down (kind of like how every Metroidvania style Castlevania reuses the Clock Tower). We could have a dozen different map layouts for an area so not everyone has the exact same experience. It would finally give the castle a feeling of it being truly sentient. As the game goes on new areas can be downloaded and will integrate into the whole of the castle creating new shortcuts (or blocking off old ones) in the process. It could even take the (better) elements from HoD and have you doing a few runs of an area to look for rare loot. You don’t have to go back to places to beat the game but doing so might get you something rare.

If you play online you can bring in your character and their current stats and play with someone else of a similar level ala Dark Souls. Maybe you could have a party of evil characters (like Shaft, Carmilla, or Orlock for example) that could run into a party of good characters and you’d be forced to fight them and gain a bigger boost of XP or other gear for winning. There could even be a special character like St. Germain seen in Curse of Darkness. There could be an online event surrounding him. In somewhat random but fair (like through a ranking system based on something) some people would get to become that character for the week and find themselves being warped around to other people’s games providing help. Meanwhile the inverse of that is playing as Galamoth’s Time Reaper and causing all sorts of mischief. There would be no penalty for dying as either but for completing certain tasks you could get bonus xp or gear.

I guess flimsily the story could be about Castlevania coming back one it’s own. The evil characters didn’t attempt to summon Dracula back so they are surprised by the castle’s sudden return and the good guys just do their traditional good guy thing. So both sides go rushing in to figure out what’s going on.

Anyway I look forward to what Konami has next for the series.

Victor Belmont, eh ? Sorry, but I couldn’t care less about this guy. The coolest scrapped playable character in the series that really shouldn’t have been forgotten is, by far, Coller from Castlevania 64.

I mean, just look at this motherfucker here… He looks like the awesome unholy lovechild of Caleb from Blood, Frankenstein’s monster and Ash from Evil Dead! How could someone even dislike the mere idea of having a fucking playable undead cyborg armed with guns and a chainsaw for a hand ???

He is the one that should have been the second playable character in Castlevania 64, rather than Carrie Fernandez. But we all know Japan prefers magical lolis, so… :frowning:

Playthrough of the demo.

Three posts concerning LoS in a row and no Rugaltarian to bitch about shit?!

What kind of miracle is this.

Lookin great. Really excited for it.

HEY GUYS

I played the MoF PS3 demo, and it was very, very sad. That’s all I’ll say about that.

Also the LoS2 Demo isn’t impressing me. The Iron Giant attacking Castlevania? More stupid QTEs? More Hollywood bullshit stock Dark Knight Rises music? These are dark times indeed.

Unlike Bloody Mary it only takes saying Ruga’s name once to suck him into this thread.

Here guys check out this track from the game. I don’t necessarily think the Hans Zimmerman influences are that bad. It’s not like it gets overdone. Plus the bits with the horns gives it a somber tone despite being thematically triumphant. Hell I’d say it kinda characterizes the game well.

Oscar Araujo - Castlevania - Lords Of Shadow 2 ā€œThe Titanā€ by OscarAraujo

Me, @DoctaMario and @Rugalitarian all come from a very small, but dedicated, Castlevania community before we all ended up here. Now unlike Rugal, I actually enjoy the LoS games, but I do see where he’s coming from, and I prefer a huge majority of CV games pre-LoS.

In a perfect world IGA would be shitting out $20 PSN/Live/Steam Metroidvania’s every 1-3 years, and MercurySteam would be keeping CV in 3D attempting to go toe-to-toe with the heavy hitting action hack and slash games.

I’m torn on whether or not to buy the ā€œcompleteā€ LoS package or just MoF off of PSN. Is MoF on disc with the complete collection, or do you buy the game and it comes as a download code? If it’s the latter, I’ll just get the digital version instead.

I liked the demo. Especially the new gameplay elements. Life steal and guard crush are gonna bring some depth to the combat system this time around I think. Platforming was also fun and definitely more reminiscent of older, 2D Castlevania games than it was in the first LoS. I like that there were some Symphony of the Night references thrown in there too, though I kinda hope they’re re-recorded by the time the final game comes out; I thought they could have been spoken with a little more… I dunno, passion, for lack of a better word. Gabriel/Dracula’s voice was pretty good overall, though, I thought. I still prefer 2D Castlevania style music in general but I also don’t feel like it fits the LoS games.

Anyone thinking of downloading Mirror of Fate on PSN, beware, there’s some weird glitch with it that affects your PSN ID, trophies, and syncing. I had to actually do a quick reformat to get my stuff back to working normally. Now I’m holding off on playing it 'til they patch it.

That’s cool and being dedicated is great but when your from a smaller isolated community it’s real easy to forget there are a lot of people just as knowledgeable and passionate about the series.

Not saying you have this issue but Rugal sure as fuck does.

Which is why he has whole pages of buried comments.

I can be cool with people liking or disliking because that’s an opinion, but saying it’s trash or getting on some type of nerd soapbox speaking on what qualifies as a castlevania just shows how insular his experience was.

I wonder just what the heck happened to the godlike music?

They wanted to make the Castlevania experience as much like God of War as possible. Forget 24+ years of awesome music that has been remixed by thousands of people and played in orchestrated concerts around the world man. We want that shat out hollywood style music!

I’m as big of a Castlevania fan as they come, but I also like variety. I like LoS but I love my 2D Castlevania. I’d be happy if they consistently did both.

You ever hang out at the Dungeon anymore @sonicabid ?

Honestly, I got tired of IGA’s offerings and when I saw LoS, I was excited about Castlevania again.

The LoS2 demo is fantastic. The combat system got some extra depth to it thanks to being able to quick-switch weapons DMC style. I was pulling off some sweet combos against those knights. I kind of wish they’d implement a hit counter so you had some way of knowing how far into a combo you were, but I guess we can’t have everything.

As for the MoF thing, if you’ve already got LoS1, I’d just get the digital version. From what they were saying at the Dungeon, LoS is the only game on disc and the rest of it is just digital downloads.

There were hardly any QTEs in the demo. Did you really play it? I thought the iron war machine was cool as hell, but I’ve been wrong before so… :coffee:

Ah, sucks MoF comes as a digital download code. No point in getting the physical version, then. I’ll snag the digital version when I’m not broke at some point. I haven’t been to the dungeon in a long time, but I found it interesting that I recognized some posters there when I did decide to check it out.

PC version of LoS is the better version. I can download that whenever, but I took the time to Platinum LoS so I’m not really itching to play it again anytime soon(though I would like to experience the DLC at some point.)

Even if you fucking hated LoS, you can’t say it’s a worse game than Curse of Darkness. Curse of Darkness on PS2/Xbox is one of the shittiest CV games out there. Fucking trash, so disappointing coming off of Lament of Innocence.

Dont forget that atrocity called Judgement.

LoS may not be perfect but it’s a pretty solid game that will hopefully allow IGA to have a real fucking budget for a badass handheld Castlevania.

Other than the level design, Curse of Darkness was pretty fun. Trevor Belmont mode was more fun than the main game.
