I don’t know as much about boxing as I do about MMA but what would it mean for Maidana if in the unlikely event that he does defeat Mayweather, especially after beating Broner? Would an immediate rematch be booked? Would Floyd retire? Might be stupid questions but wondering lol
Floyd probably has a rematch clause in all his fights if he loses even though he refuses to rematch anyone himself anymore. Not sure, but who was the last person he gave a rematch to, if ever?
Mayweather is undefeated. There are a lot of good boxers are there, but Floyd has been at the forefront of media because of his showmanship and he knows how to utilize sensationalism. Combined with the fact that he has perfected his style where he slips by and shoulder parry most of his opponents punches. He acts in a way that every hipster wants to see him lose, but from a boxing perspective, he understands range, zoning, and movement; so he’s an excellent boxer.
In the event that Mayweather loses, he’ll lose a lot of his appeal and won’t be able to sell as many PPVs anymore. I don’t think it’s unlikely, boxing requires such high split second precision movement that if you slip up just a bit, it might mean a really bad concussion. I think Cotto and Canelo had what it took, it was just bad strategy on their part.
