The Boxing Thread

it’s not about the shoulder roll being “overrated”, it just has a higher degree of difficulty and much higher probabilty of you getting fucked up if you’re not a master of the shit.

Haha def. I knew i was gonna take shots but today was by far the worst ive taken. Its cool tho happens to everyone. Even mayweather got his nose bloodied heh

1-2 sparring helps you really learn your range and where you are at in terms of your skill. I mean it’s not like your coach said don’t proctect your face.

Getting drop by a liver shot is a whole other world of hurt than the tweety birds though. Not breathing and just being paralyzed for 5 seconds scares the shit outta you.

Like with everything i work on my head movement, defense, and footwork before my offense really comes into play.

Ur so right. Defense and movement def things i need to work on.

I remember when I took a good body blow. Knocked the wind out of me with the quickness.

My coach likes for us to do defense training where one guy throws 1,2’s and we focus on just evading them. Great style of training though.

Thats what we do. The guy i faced last night was new for me taller and longer reach. He kept ducking down too, like bent over, perfect for an uppercut but those obv arent allowed

I feel it. A lot of the guys at my gym are those out boxing types. I noticed that my coach doesn’t like one dimensional fighters so he does these to help with our overall movement. Since I’m the newest there I’m gonna get whipped for a while but luckily they all have good attitudes.

Boxing is harder than muay thai because of restrictions.

Cool story this morning

until it was reported this boxing class is like $120 a person. But I don’t know if that’s high or low considering, that was a mention by the newscasters, that’s not in the video clip.

And Muhammad Ali might want to get back to it if he doesn’t already do this, helping with balance, not confining yourself to a wheelchair in old age by staying active.

Been working on head movement and feeling natural in my movements, lighter on my feet etc. Coach said when I get tired I tend to start plodding which I need to fix.

Down to 217…Getting there! excited. currently at work drinking my 3rd 32 oz water bottle of the day.

Did more skill sparring on thursday, went a lot better than monday. Head movement and snapping the jab more like I’m used to. I wish i could spar everyday lol

so chris john retired, i never actually saw dude fight but i’ve been reading about dude for years.

Anyone excited for Pascal-Bute?

He’s overrated and not impressive.

you have no idea what you’re talking about. There is no mastering shoulder rolls. Keep your hands down, same thing. Footwork comes first. Your stance is whatever is most comfortable for you. As long as your heads off the centerline and you’re taking away major angles then you’re you.

Anyone watching the Argentinian Featherweight title fight?

no, who was it?

waiting for the canelo angulo press conference to kick off, 3 days from now

Okay there is a fight supposed to start around 10:15. Its Pascal vs Bute. It should be a pretty good fight (light heavy I believe). I may have a link available. If you need one I will PM it to you.

Also I took a month off from boxing to coach wrestling a bit more. Started back up this week. Coach basically is on super serious mode now. So it’s just me and two other guys who train there. It is a good feeling though because I feel like I am a part of the team, even though I am still green, lol.

Yesterday was conditioning training, so basically 90 minutes of hell. I learned a lot of new combos as well, but my body is beyond sore. It reminds me how much I miss boxing.

SHIT PASCAL BUTE WAS TONIGHT?! Who won i missed it

As for training, Im down to 215 aimin for 200. Been sparring alot more lately and with way better competition. Ive sparred with a amateur who reached grand finals of the golden gloves twice, and other really good strong fighters. I can feel my skill and natural ease in the rung improving. My stomach is at that weird “top half looks sexy, bottom half still bulges” stage haha.

My first exhibition got pushed back to feb 21st. Ill have videos when it goes down.

Good stuff bro! yeah I want to get down to 200 as well. Being in the super heavyweight division is a no go for me, lol. Well I could do it, but I would have to focus purely on cardio and not gassing myself out, lol. I am taking my time with this though, especially since we are going with some very technical boxing now.

As far as the fight, Pascal won, but for some reason Bute was very apprehensive (must be because of the Froch fight). Either way Bute tried for the KO in the final round. It was an alright fight, but it is what it is. Seeing someone who is a counter puncher not counter punch is just weird.

Pac vs Bradley 2 April 12th

looks like Bradley signed an extension contract with Top Rank
