The Bob Team Synergy Thread

So, I’ve finally found a team and it will be Bob and Lili. At first I was using Kazuya and Ryu (so top tier I know lol), but these two excite me right now, especially Bob. I’m hoping to contribute more to the Bob forums over time, good luck everybody with Bob, I hope you can turn his weight into power!

juri.

great zoner
great at point
she builds meter like crazy, which would just be a luxury, as they dont need it
safe pressure game to go with bobs safe pressure game
benefits from bobbinos mixups (especially from tag canceled pw on block)
AA that can tag bob in for 504 damage for one bar… which is awesome considering bob has none

if you can stay off your back (or out of hugos bnb) with this team, you should win the match

edit: did i say 504 from AA? i meant 519

I’m running Chun Li… Seems… good?

Chun is a good character, safe LL tags, can hold her own awesomely, It’s nice that both characters have anti-FB supers, and SBK allows for granchi tags… but I’m not feeling the tag combinations? It seems sorta difficult to maximize both characters’ combo output off tags… maybe it’s just me, maybe I’m spoiled by other tekken characters, I dunno. It’s not exactly monster damage or super long is all I’m sayin’.

I guess in the end it’ll be all about pairing up with a top-tier anyway (pick Rufus/Kazuya/Raven bro! :looney:) but I’m thinking there might be a better partner than Chun… like, I’m thinking you’ll want at least one guy on your team that can tag cancel off his alpha counter for example, and this team doesn’t have that .

I’m thinking Ken would be a good partner… Well, he sorta seems like the best all-around “partner character” in the game really, and maybe even Vega?

Thats who im running, need to learn them better

Right now I run Bob/Raven. I think in general Bob works best with a zoning character to deal with some of his harder match ups like Gief.

ive got a freind who plays the same team. i was a little skeptical because they both lack zoning tools

Hugo EX lariat > tag bob > c.HP into granchi loop = OMG WHERE DID ALL MY HEALTH GO

Bob/Hugo isn’t too bad, especially with that set up into granchi loop. Throw in a stacked pandora Hugo and its like instant death.

I don’t really feel like the lack of zoning options is a problem since Bob actually makes for a good solo character. Has so many tools against zoners.

Speaking of which, who else has been using fireball reflect > tag cancel? It’s so scary with my Gief/Bob team. All of the sudden gief is running full speed behind a fireball for a free way in. Plus you can cancel run at any point into lariat if they jump.

For anyone that has run Bob/Gief, who is the better anchor and can they handle jump happy shotos? Or would I be better swapping one of them for Julia?

thoughts on Abel point, Bob anchor? Bob does big dmg off of tags right?

Bob does pretty solid damage after tags now, and multiple ways to set up tag cancels. If you’re looking for thoughts on the team though, I actually play Bob/Abel.

Abel does alright as a point, but he really requires meter to become a scary character overall. Without meter he definitely lacks a few things in his game. His footsie/spacing game isn’t really that strong without EX tackle. St.LK has great range, but his boosts are pretty damn unsafe now, so you can’t really confirm out of it. His step kick is still pretty decent at mid range, but without meter for EX TT it’s more of a surprise tactic (think CADC) or a whiff punish. Since it’s -1, the most solid offense he can mount on block still leaves a 5 frame gap. Abel is much better with a good chunk of meter, and brought in to terrorize the opponent on wake up.

Bob is a much more solid all around character though. Can play a lot more patiently, and frankly has much better tools in the neutral game.

This actually why I play Bob/Marduk still, even though I can get better damage for no meter from Marduk to Bob… Bob handles the nuetral game in a pretty decent way, though from some ranges its annoying in general you can land somehit and get marduk in… then When marduk’s in welcome to 400-600 damage depending on meter and starter

Surprised I never posted in here, but I think bob is a definite anchor, I have felt this way about bob since launch, and I feel bob works best when the point has certain quality’s like:<br>1.Good meter building<br>2.Doesn’t require meter to be effective<br>3.Good neutral game<br>4.Good switch outs<br>5.Some kind of reversal options to counteract bob’s lack of.<br><br>I think these are some of the best characters to pair with bob:<br>Chun<br>Bryan<br>Julia<br>Alisa<br>Vega<br>Guile<br>Law<br>Dudley<br>Hwoarang<br><br>While other characters can work with bob, almost none possess the exact criteria that is most effective in complementing bob, all the characters I listed have great neutral games, great meter gain, great switch-outs, and most don’t require meter to be more effective characters, with some small exceptions like Bryan having good EX moves for combo’s, and Dudley needing meter for EX MGB, etc, but bottom line, all these characters are perfect fits for bob, if you ask me, some of the top synergy picks for bob are as follows:<br><br>Chun: Her amazing neutral game, ability to build meter, switch-outs almost impossible to avoid, with st.mp into lightning legs being insanely effective, chun-li is almost a complete package, and I think this is one of the best teams possible for bob in the game<br>Law: After playing pair play with a law player for extended periods of time, I think this team is basically the #1 synergy team for bob, while I think chun can be perfect for bob, law is essentially one of the best characters in the game when it comes to meterless effectiveness, switch-out potential, and powerful neutral games, in fact, the main reason this is anymore effective than chun-li, is the damage, Law is slightly more effective than chun, but with much higher damage output, and over-all, this actually works out insanely well with bob, since bob is more effective overall if you pair him with any power characters.<br>Alisa: Alisa is one of the most, if not THE most effective meter-gain character you can possibly pair with bob, she builds more meter, faster, than chun or law, and with her fireball/cr.hp and destroy form zoning, she practically ignores the neutral game, making for a consistent meter gain character, and paired with the best switch-outs in the game, she makes for a mean contender for best synergy with bob, providing her own niche, outside of Law and Chun’s strengths, that make her just as viable.<br><br>I’ve known about bob synergy for a long time, and I think that while what I say shouldn’t be taken as law (hehe), I do think what I say is nearly on point with everything that bob is looking for in a partner, and what characters seem to provide the most potential for bob to be successful.<br><br>Also if you were wondering why characters like law and chun are top tier, its because of this reason, law and chun are basically some of the best point characters in the game, and can work the best synergy with tons of power/mix-up characters that need them, like Asuka, Heihachi, Kazuya, Steve fox, etc. just letting people know if they want to say something like “you just said the best characters work well with bob” well… yeah, their some of the best characters for this reason.<br>

What about Nina? she fills those requirements?  That team can switch around and still be extremely good.  the damage between them is rediculous. You really dont need meter with either of them because of their synergy and it can be used for reversals or extra damage here and there.

PLanning on using Guy/Bob, any input? I like Guy’s pressure and mixups and have been looking for a character to put with him for a while. Any input?

I really don’t know too much about guy so it’s difficult for me to speak on that team. They’re both strong characters though so I’m sure that they will be, at the very least, solid in any order.

You might run into some match up problems though because they actually strike me as very similar characters for the most part. Both rely more on standing pressure as opposed to wake up and knockdowns, have solid footsies with decent damage, can tag into decent damage either way. I haven’t ran into many bad match ups as bob point, but you might find a couple with your team if they can’t cover each other well.

I really don’t know how I would order the team. I am biased towards bob point because I think he has some of the strongest spacing in the game, and I think guy will start having trouble getting in as the game progresses. Right now though no one (including me) seems to be able to stop bushin flip shenanigans, so guy on point will work fine.

Also, try charging ex elbow after bob’s spiral rocky, should work for a wallbounce?

yea ill have to try seeing what I can do combo wise. you can charge EX shoulder for a 1bar super off spiral rocky, easy to hit in corner, but I managed to hit it midscreen once but havnt been able to again, the rocky pushes them out too far. Cant seem to get anything off a ex shoulder wallbounce though

Just wanted to suggest something for this… Try c.LP? If you stay crouched, he will do the elbow, which I believe can be c.LP’d. I haven’t specifically tested it, but it has gotten me out of a jam more than a couple time.

cLP was also my answer for Hugo crossup splash.

Yea I was thinking I could use that or c.MP. The problem with those though is that you’re usually getting just a poke, and maaaybe a small combo if you’re able to land it successfully, and guy will always get a beefy combo if you mistime your poke. Special dash can probably function somewhat too.

But yea, clearly my guy knowledge is a little lacking

Been playing Bob/Julia, with both characters rocking the meter build set. I feel like Bob has a handle on the neutral game a little better with his mobility and overall more unique style, whereas Julia, despite her monster pokes, sets a slower pace and can be difficult to get started without some meter to set up boost into party crasher shenanigans.

What I love about this team is the the many ways they can go into launcher to activate the meter gems. Between Julia’s f.hp and Bob’s Spiral Rocky, it’s super easy to get gems activated, and given Bob and Julia’s typically long-ish blockstrings, the meter build is extremely fast. Julia gets a 3 frame punisher and huge combo extender and Bob gets his most viable reversal, and I’d rather have that over a temporary power or defense boost.

The one thing that does suck is Bob is stifled somewhat in that Julia’s low launch doesn’t let him get the cl.hp bound, so I have to stick with the lamer lp>b.mp into Rocky, but I think it’s a decent tradeoff for how much damage off of a single bar the team can produce. Great time wasters too, if that is worth anything haha.
