I love shows that are not afraid to write themselves in the corner because that is the best way to make it compelling. Who knows what Van Alden is going to do now? He’s not going to jail. Is he going to turn to a life of crime? I mean other than being a cop, he doesn’t really know anything else. He’s not going to take a 9-5 job to feed his baby. I knew Horvitz wasn’t going to die as soon as Rothstein and Co. told Nucky he was disposable but I didn’t see the Jimmy murder coming. Fantastic build up with the heatwave and the rain too for texturing the scenes.

[details=Spoiler]I think Jimmy dying was what should have happened and the logical step to end the season in a satisfying way although I really thought he was going to do it himself. He decided to show his remorse and do Nucky that one last favor even though he knew in the end he wasnt going to come back from that meet. As for Michael Pitt: despite recent rumors about his behavior on set I think were going to see him blow up as an actor. He was absolutely brilliant and his presence will be missed from the show. However, that is not to say that there will be a void in regards to the story because there is more than enough to work with and many fascinating characters left. The Italians assuming a bigger role in the show will be more than welcome and is the most logical direction in my opinion.
The way things worked out for Nucky was well done but DAMN Margaret is despicable. What the hell is the church going to do with THAT much money? I really hope that the maid spills the beans on the affair and that the priest doesn’t accept the deed! She should have just not married him at all! Also, I wonder if Nucky believed Eli over Jimmy because that is how they made it seem. He has to at least have SOME doubts about Eli.
