The Blu-ray Thread v1.0

I believe IMAX Experience theaters use legit IMAX projectors. It’s just that they have regular screens, so it just ends up being a crisp, letterboxed movie.

But yeah, most of the theaters around me do that fathomevents.com shit, too. It’s stupid. Oh, so I can watch sporting events and plays and stuff at the theater? I can do that on my TV, too. I can hold business meetings there? Why the fuck would I do that?

So far, the only interesting thing I’ve seen is the live simulcast thing with the Rifftrax guys doing Christmas stuff. But the idea has potential, particularly with theater attendance more or less declining and ticket prices rising.

Where can I find release dates of english subtitled Kurosawa films? Bluray.com only has japanese dates.

Bump.

is it the real OT or the bastardized versions?

I’m hoping for the original theatrical releases…

More than likely: Bastardized.

Does it really matter? Its Star Wars on blu-ray. Take it or leave it. Plus i can only assume they MIGHT have put both original and special editions on the same disc.

Of course it does. One version is Star Wars, the other version is a steaming pile of shit.

Fucking Third Man is sooo expensive:mad:

I doubt they’ll release the original editions of Star Wars until the hardcore fans have all broken down and bought the special versions.

I like the original theatrical versions and all, but that’s quite the exaggeration. It’s a few changed scenes. Get over it.

someone throws a can of paint on the mona lisa

“Eh it’s just a few added brush strokes. Get over it.”

There’s a huge difference between throwing a can of paint on the mona lisa thereby ruining the painting and adding extra scenes that doesn’t mess up the flow of the movie or ruin it for that matter.
None of the scenes botches the movie or retcon anything so why complain? Oh thats right, because its the cool thing to do. Its George Lucas’s movies. Let him do whatever he wants with it.

The fact that Han doesn’t shoot first pretty much changes the entire dynamic of that character. So, yes, it does change the movie with that retcon.

Movie storytelling thrives on economy of detail. Every little thing matters at least a little. Big things matter a lot. There is very little room for irrelevancies in a movie. For this reason, changing even one scene in a movie is a pretty big deal.

For example:

The fact that Han shoots first, especially so early in the movie, is very important to his development as a character. That one simple action speaks volumes about the kind of man he is. It is a Big Thing. Change that one thing and Han is a much different character.

Many people object to this. I can’t blame them.

EDIT:

Ronin, you son of a bitch. I’m starting to feel like Original Greedo: just not fast enough. I demand a special edition of the thread.

fooly cooly release on feb 22. cant wait i was kicking myself when i didnt buy the ultimate edition dvd back then. now you cant even get it. and if you do you can only get it used and thats still going to run you and $200.but im going to buy 2 copies of the bluray when it comes out. i kick myself when i always see a anime i shouldve been bought and later on it becomes rare and expensive when i finally decide to purchase it

And this is just my opinion but i don’t think it changes the entire dynamic of that character than say how the force was horribly retconned as something thats in your blood cells.

That’s just as bad. It takes something that has a supernatural element to it, and turns it into a blood condition. All the coolness of the force comes down to blood type. That’s fucking retarded.

Midiclorians got shoehorned into the new trilogy, but Lucas did that to a movie that he’d just made, despite how it would effect the other films. With Han not shooting first, he made that change like 20 years later for no other reason but to actually change who Han is.

As Goodie and I said, it changes the entire dynamic of the character. This isn’t a hard concept to grasp, and pulling in the midiclorian idea doesn’t make the point about Han any less relevant. Don’t conflate the two.
