Disney is also running an upgrade program, where if you already own the DVD, you get a discount on the same movies on Blu-ray.
I’m liking how Disney is doing the whole DVD/Blu Ray combo pack deal.
I can watch the Blu-Ray on my PS3…and if I want to show the family, I can pop in the DVD copy.
Warner is launching a dvd trade in program called, DVD2Blu where it’ll cost you $7.95 to $9.95 for the blu-ray version and they currently have 50 titles eligible.
Wow that is awesome.
Monsters Inc is awesome on Blu Ray…I need to invest on a High Def TV next year.
Definitely, I got it this week and Sully’s air STILL amazes me, lol…watching it in 1080p really brought that shit to life.
I heard the Rocky blu ray box set was really shitty…can anyone confirm? And how come Sly hasnt done a commentary for each of those movies?
I think Cliffhanger comes out next month…instant get
Warner Bros thing is cool but the only movie i have they list is Lost Boys
… what the fuck
Yeah, they have plans for that. It was retarded back when they did it on HD DVD, and it’s equally retarded now.
yes rocky looks bad except for 6
1 and 3 look the worst
special features aren’t there even though they’re on the dvd
avoid imo
Alright, I read as far back as July, which seems to be the most recent instance of anyone (namely, Sep) recommending the PS3 for new Blu-Ray users. Is this still the case? Its ability to play games isn’t a concern for me. And are there any options (slimness, HDD size, etc.) that affect its Blu-Ray superpowers?
It’s a full featured player, easy to update, fast interface/operating speed, and built from good quality components. At the price it is regularly reviewed on par with players several hundred dollars more expensive. And if you ever decided to play games that would just be a bonus.
There are a couple players out there (Samsung springs to mind) with the same price tag of $300 that are reviewed at similar quality. A few players in the same range can get you Netflix compatibility, but that should be coming on PS3 soon also. PS3 is also slightly bigger than regular stand alone players.
*Edit. My mistake for missing Netflix is already available. Need to get a subscription for Christmas.
Netflix is already on the PS3, I use it daily. As far as getting a PS3 for a Blu-ray player only, it has it’s ups and downs. For the price, nothing used to hold a candle to it. Now days you can get a player in a similar price range that will be upgradeable like the PS3 and have Netflix built in, though it won’t have the speed and processing power of the PS3. If you don’t mind what most people who choose a stand alone player over a PS3 for, doesn’t work with most universal remotes and doesn’t fit aesthetically well with their entertainment system, then I think it is the best option. It is virtually futureproof, a processing powerhouse, awesome DVD upscaler, and if you ever do desire to play games, the library on the PS3 now is fucking great.
As far as PS3 sku differences, they all play Blu-ray’s the same, except the slim has a HDMI fix for some of the audio codecs, or something like that, ask an audiophile for details. So get a slim unless you want a PS3 with PS2backwards compatibility.
Love BDs, but re-investing on same movies i already have as DVDs is a pain. Was watching Monsters Inc on Bluray and it does make a difference.

Same thing with the HDDVD, don’t know if that’s old or not.
Question: i’m kinda confused but which Watchmen set is the best one to get?
Lol, HDDVD. Man was that ever a flop.
Just got a ps3 last week and I’m going to pick up a bunch blu-rays over the next month or so.
So this is basically a subscribed post.
Fuck, I’m still waiting for BSG complete series to go on sale.
