The Blu-ray Thread v1.0

Madagascar 2 and all the other cg animated movies look mind blowing but Madagascar 2 especially.

FUCK now I have to wait till december for watchmen bd:mad:

Man, I was at Worst Buy yesterday, and I almost bought one of those LED TVs. They look SO nice. It’s too bad the display models all had Auto-motion Plus on, which made everything look weird/terrible.

Still, 7,000,000:1 dynamic contrast is hard to scoff at.

I really want an LED TV but considering I only bought my plasma maybe 8 months ago it is hard to justify such a purchase.

my 300 bd copy is very grainy
why is this

Pretty sure that’s how it’s meant to be.

son of a bitch miller
i guess i just didnt remember it that grainy on dvd

Doing some research, figured I’d start here. does anyone have minimum system specs to run blu-Ray on a computer? Possibly building an HTPC with a Blu-Ray drive…

Amazon has the Matrix Trilogy + Animatrix on Bluray for $57.99.
For those who has it already…is it a good buy in terms of quality and extras?

buy a ps3

Yeah, as YellowS4 said, that’s the aesthetic of the movie. They actually injected CG grain to give it a “grittier” film quality.

Regarding graininess in other BD movies, what you see as grain are actually silver halide particles used in film processing, so graininess is actually a byproduct of the production process. So it’s always been there. The reason you don’t see it on DVD is because DVD’s native display resolution doesn’t have the pixel depth to show this amount of detail, and it blurs it all out.

Yeah, your best bet is to get a standalone player. I recommend PS3.

Of course, if you have to take the PC route, you should check Blu-ray.com for information regarding the specific BD-ROM drive you’re looking at.

sp, you are so wise

edit: also do you guys buy ALL bd’s? or just action movies? i cant justify buying anything but action or with awesome on screen graphics on bd
so far the only non-action movie i bought was mrs.doubtfire… but because it was cheaper than dvd

I buy movies that I’d watch over and over again or ones that I absolutely love. I’ll pick up certain ones if they’re like $10 (FF Spirits Within!).

I only buy movies I like or those I think I’ll like. So far so good; I’ve only traded in one BD.

PS3 can’t do what an HTPC can…specially with regards to non-media based thigns like emulation (>_<)’…shhhhhh.

I guess blu-ray.com is the all knowing info site then?

I get everything on blu now cause I get them so cheap. If I go back to DVD it’s like going back to an old pair of glasses from like 5 years ago. Everything’s all blurry and shit.

I’m just amazed at DVD prices going up. Its working in BR’s favor though heh.

Has anyone tried burning BR disc (not interested in bootleg stuff but for information)?

^Getting all the iso’s after the initial download is a bitch and you don’t get the special features and not to mention bd’s are expensive so on the whole IT’S NOT WORTH IT.

Just curious what exactly makes bd superior ro hd dvd (yes I know bd IS hd dvd you know what I mean)

There are a number of things that make BD better than HD DVD. The most obvious one is that BD supports a higher data bandwidth than HD DVD, which is still restricted by DVD’s limit. This allows for uncompressed audio and more versatility with the AVC codec.

No, I’m not saying for bootlegging, I have goo gobs of info that I’d like to hard back up, and a Blu-Ray disc would be a great idea depending on how good it is (and expensive). I bought a 1.5TB drive but if fucking bricked on me, so while I’m getting that taken care of I’d still like a non-mechanical back-up.
