Dark Knight is out today, isn’t it? (and so is Persona 4, for that matter)
Yup, snagged my copy at midnight during the TDK mini re-release which oddly enough, gave away the FS exclusive steelback versions lol.

L.A. Dispatch: A DVD Boost for ?The Dark Knight? Campaign
By Brooks Barnes
Warner Brothers has not been shy about pushing ?The Dark Knight? in the Oscar race, and the early (huge) numbers on its DVD release can only help convince voters to take another, closer look at the box-office juggernaut and critical darling.
Customers in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. purchased 3 million copies of ?The Dark Knight? on DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday, the first day in stores. For a title to sell 1 million copies in a single day is considered strong.
Sales of next-generation Blu-ray discs alone totaled 600,000 on the first day, leading Warner Brothers to project Blu-ray sales will total 1 million by Saturday. In a surprise, Blu-ray sales were especially strong at grocery stores, indicating that the format is broadening beyond early adopters to more mainstream buyers, notably women.
?Numbers like these in this economic environment firmly establish Blu-ray as where consumers are headed,? said Kevin Tsujihara, president of Warner Brothers Home Entertainment. To compare, ?Iron Man? held the previous single-day sales record for Blu-ray discs with about 250,000 sold.
Ron Sanders, president of Warner Brothers Home Video, said sales were strong enough to give him confidence about how the DVD business overall will hold up during a significant recession. ?We are are blowing past all our internal projections,? he said.
Hollywood has been worried that home entertainment ? the industry?s cash cow for a decade ? will wilt along with consumer spending. DVD sales are down about 6 percent for the year, analysts say, but holiday sales are considered especially important. That?s because the entertainment and retail industries are making a big push to convert consumers to Blu-ray by deeply discounting players and because an array of blockbuster movies are set for release.
Warner Brothers was worried about DVD sales for ?The Dark Knight? ? which the studio is pushing as a Best Picture contender at the Oscars ? and not just because of the economy. When movies do exceptionally well in theaters they sometimes underperform on DVD because so many people have already seen them, analysts say. Worldwide ticket sales for ?The Dark Knight? stand at about $1 billion.
As expected, TDK owned everything.
All about that piece of shit Canadian that is selling TDK to US people for 3x the price.

LOL @ Best Picture. Don’t get me wrong, I love the movie and I think TDK has a lot of potential nominations but it won’t get nominated Best Picture.
Possibly:
-Supporting Actor (Ledger)
-Make-up
-Costume Design
-Cinematography
-Art Direction
-Original Score
-Sound Mixing
-Sound Editing
$24.99 at Best Buy this week only for TDK, then it goes back to $29.99
The IMAX shots in the TDK are just amazing to see, but Live Free or Die Hard still takes the cake on the best looking Blu-Ray movie.
And this whole Sin City on Blu-Ray, lies, lies!! No store has it, amazon has the listing, but the Blu-Ray isnt out yet. I need this movie on Blu-Ray NOW!

Ratatouille and Wall-E are much better in terms of sound and picture quality.
Also, TDK looks amazing on Blu-ray.
Were you at one of the stores that had an “expanded midnight launch” by chance? They were marked with an asterix on Best Buy’s site, but when I called they just said they were doing a launch like any other Best Buy. I decided to save gas and not drive up to LA. No swag at the Best Buy I ended up at.
However I am digging the BluRay Live features on TDK. I was checking out some custom commentaries by a whole host of people, fun stuff.
Blu-ray Recorder Sales Surpass DVD in Japan
By Priya Ganapati | December 10, 2008 | 3:40:37 PM | Categories: Blu-ray
Blu-ray vanquished its rival HD-DVD earlier this year to emerge as the next generation standard for high definition video storage.
In North America, though it continues to trail DVD as most consumers seem unwilling to trade their DVD players for a Blu-ray one.
Not so in Japan. Blu-ray disc recorders surpassed a 50 percent market share in the first week of November and outpaced sales of DVD disc recorders, says market research company GfK Retail and Technology. That compares to about 10 percent market share that they had just about a year ago.
Average sales price of Blu-ray recorders have been falling this year. In the first week of June 2008, the average price of a Blu-ray recorder was between the equivalent of $1,110 to $1,300. Now they are available at the sub-$1,000 level, says the firm.
Blu-ray disc recorders are replacing DVD recorders at about one-and-a-half times faster than DVD recorders replaced VHS recorders, says GfK.
One of the reasons for this quicker rate of change is the rise in sales of flat panel TVs, says GfK. Blu-ray recorders can record digital high definition broadcasting without any drop in quality, which has ostensibly helped accelerate demand for it.

Updated: To correct pricing error of recorders.
The takeover is beginning.

so amazon has been having a buy 2 get 1 free blu ray sale for a while (on select dvds) that I have been monitoring. I checked today and they have added about two hundred additional titles to the sale. I just picked up Blade Runner, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and Life of Brian.

I love those Amazon 2 get 1 free deals, half my BD’s are from them. I can’t look now or I’ll spend money.
I haven’t spent more than 15 for a blu ray until dark knight. There’s this really awesome store next to my job that has every blu ray for less than 16 bucks. Their selection isn’t up to best buy or something (they’re a small store) but they get all my business, even if I have to wait for something.

Now that the market is growing and they are showing up in places like grocery stores, I would expect the prices to start coming down. I can’t wait until I can go into Wal-mart and pilfer through the $5-$10 Blu-ray bin.
someone should have warned me T2 blu ray was so shitty
