THE SKINNY: We know THE DARK KNIGHT isn’t even out in theaters yet (less than two weeks away!), but let’s admit it: We already know that we’ll be adding this one to our personal DVD collections.

iF MAGAZINE did a bit of investigating at the junket last weekend to squeeze out any details we could get from the filmmakers regarding what juicy extras we can look forward to. While director Christopher Nolan and producers Charles Roven and Emma Thomas had not met to discuss the DVD yet at the time of THE DARK KNIGHT junket, they will able to throw us a few scraps.

Nolan and Thomas both brought up the anticipated Blu-ray version and its capabilities. Nolan summed it up by saying, “The Blu-ray, in particular, will be able to actually use the shifted aspect ratios as it appears on the IMAX screen because the 16:9 aspect ratio is sufficiently different from the 2:4 that you’ll actually see a shift on the Blu-ray. The resolution on the Blu-ray is clear enough that you can actually see difference in grain structure and sharpness. So I think it will be quite spectacular.”

There are a couple of elements that fans will not be seeing. Thomas said that it’s “unlikely” that the DVD will contain alternate takes of Heath Ledger as the Joker [during the junket, the filmmakers and fellow cast members mentioned how Ledger would occasionally riff or improvise some of his dialogue], but pointed out that they have not decided anything for sure yet.

Another popular feature that THE DARK KNIGHT DVD won’t have according to Roven: deleted scenes.

“We know there won’t be any deleted scenes because there never are,” says Roven, noting director Nolan puts everything of importance in the actual movie. “There weren’t any on BATMAN BEGINS and there weren’t any on this one.”

Apart from that, Nolan promised us some “very interesting extras”. The man hasn’t failed us thus far, so we’ll be waiting in excited anticipation.

So skip the DVD and go Blu-ray.

I hear No Country For Old Men is a really good movie, and I’m thinking of getting it on Blu-Ray. I watched the trailer on PSN…seems interesting. Nice weapon. :lol:

The movie is one of my favorite films of all time. It’s one of those philosophical crime-thrillers, that really forces you to pay attention. I’m not sure what other movies to compare it to, but if it sounds like you like that type of film, No Country is as good as it gets.

The Blu-Ray picture quality is top-tier. It’s among the best for live-action PQ, with Blu-Ray’s like Rambo, Pirates, I Am Legend, etc…

Audio is pretty average, partly because there’s not a lot scenes with loud/detailed audio that really push your sound system. Dialogue is very clear, though.

Probably among one of my top 5 favorite Blu-Ray’s. In my opinion, it’s a must own.

As for TWBB, excellent movie, but the Blu-Ray transfer is just alright.

Yeah, don’t know why people are hating on it. I think it’s kinda weird, but I’ll have to see it before I judge.

I just bought Mad Men Season One. I’ve never seen the show before, and just bought it because it was cheap ($25). Just saw the first episode. Seems like a pretty cool show.

The picture quality is perfect. It’s not quite reference quality but almost there.

Season 2 airs tomorrow night, but I think I’ll refrain from watching it until S2 comes out next year.

Paramount Home Entertainment has finally unwrapped the details to Iron Man’s Blu-ray arrival previously confirmed for September 30.

Iron Man will be presented as an Ultimate Edition two-disc set on Blu-ray in widescreen 1080p video and 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio.

Blu-ray owners will benefit from several supplemental features that won’t be found on the single or two-disc DVD sets. “Hall of Armor” will let reviewers zoon in on and study the three Iron Man suits or Iron Monger, then activate a 3-D weapons schematic to see what each suit is packing in terms of firepower.

Also exclusive to Blu-ray is Iron Man IQ, a BD-Live feature allowing viewers to create their own custom multiple-choice questions based on clips from the film and then share them as a working test with friends online.
