Well I think it’s not just Rufus being [still] good, but also a case of the people playing the character. Because I got steamrolled by Ricky at NWM… right when I thought I had figured out what he was doing he would mix it up with something else. And I immediately felt stupid for letting him bully me so much with repeated walkup crouching LK’s, should’ve just raw launchered through those when I noticed how much he was doing it (I don’t use raw launcher enough when I have a feeling people are going to mash crouching LP / LK). Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve played all that many Rufuses online… guess lack of matchup experience hurts too.
But yes I agree, with the number of people that wrote the game off and decided it was terrible, it’s not getting enough people playing the game at a high level to fully develop strategies for. And there are a lot of characters that are being underplayed (such as Bison), which makes me a little worried when I play against someone using an unpopular character because they might know some godlike gimmicks with them that have a high probability of working just because I haven’t gotten the exposure to it.
Yeah Justin/Ricky just being better SF players than me definitely factors into it, but I honestly just don’t understand how to fight the character, even inferior Rufuses. I can’t figure out when to attack, when to defend, how to poke effectively without getting overwhelmed or even where to be standing. Like I can’t even figure out the goal of the match.
It’s one of those things that generally I’d figure out over time and practice whether online or IRL but nobody plays so I just hope not to see Rufus which is not a good plan and especially not given that 3 of the 4 best US players play him. Life is pain and razors and sadness.
who did you hear this from? A scrub trying to play him like his SSF4 counterpart? Bison is amazing in this game and a sleeper. Even better no one really knows how to handle his gimmicks in this game. I feel he is A tier easily. Viscant and LordBBB place high with him at majors many times. You can check my channel out too if you want to see some of my footage, I upload nothing but SfxT since I retired my Bison from SSF4 online. Was sick of input lag in that game. When I played one of my country’s best Akuma online and had my Bison’s neutral jump heavy kick get beat out as an AA EVERY time, then had it work EVERY time offline, I knew I was done with online nonsense.
also after the patches i might make an in depth tutorial on how to play him. I’ll even narrate it!
those patch notes. Game is going to be really good (esp for bison, its already good for him now)
also i love this comment from scrubcom utility:
Nicholas
FFS. Give Juri her light pinwheel safety back. And make her medium back to normal. Go reduce it’s damage by 10 or something but don’t make it harder to corner-combo with it or do a cheeky mid-screen super -_-
LMAO I use Juri and this comment makes me sick. Scrub nub Juri.
Btw did offline… lost one game out of uh… 30ish and proceeded to double perfect the guy who did it. Bison is sooooo good in this game. I think Julia is a bad mu for him though. Her pokes can really jack up his footsies. Gief and Julia are probably his only problem characters. Mostly when gief has super (same with chun li) cause it limits your options. I recently fought this one gief guy who didn’t know about the punish thing and he kicked me from his endless after I won LOL. I’ll put the vid up later its funny
I wished some things in here were similar to SF4 counterpart.
I’ve been knocked out of EX-Scissors so much because lack of invincibility on start up. The range needs to be buffed. It’s so short it won’t punish too many fireballs. If meter was about 50% easier to build I wouldn’t mind burning it for EX-Scissor to tag cancel and open people up. As it stands, it’s pretty rare and difficult to find a partner that can keep opponents pinned long enough to charge a free one.
And on hit confirm, the last part knocks down. I’m not sure how many setups you can perform off that yet, but it would’ve been great if it enabled a bound effect.
Yeah, I’m not sure what they intended it to be useful for. Even for locking down characters, it knocks down on the last part and there is seemingly nothing you can do to follow up with it.
Any suggestions vs dive kicks? I know the obvious answer is to make space and try to trade with a s hk, but I’m having such little success that I’m choosing to switch out whenever I see a dive kicker.
it feels so good playing a Bison with a comeback factor, being able to do a 300+ punish (through launch to Juri) without charge… and hell attack is so good now!
Could be placebo but seems to me like Bison has the scissor kick issue fixed and maybe a buff to the hitbox on his Jump MK.
Edit: I was able to recreate the backdash but only with the HK version. I’d also like to see if anyone else thinks his Jump MK hitbox has been improved.
