The Bison Thread

I was reading in the combo thread about Bison’s corner combos with cr.mp. I like that normal move but never thought to use it more as a poke. Seems it’s good for fishing for counter hits (use it twice when the enemy is blocking, sometimes they think they can hit you back after the first cr.mp, then you can randomly hit them with the second one) The hitbox for cr.mp is a little beyond the tip of Bison’s fist. If you’re good at hit confirming (which I am not! Not yet, anyway) the counter hit is a good lead into a solid combo or launch.

Yea I been using it in place of Cr mk.

lol Cr Mk why would they nerf it so?

cr.mp is also good for sk special dash cancel to keep a s.lk pressure.
I have sometimes got c-hit with cl.hp too in this situation!

Hey fellas, just wanted to let you know of a stream that some friends of mine are running tonight over at our new project, SDUnity. At least for tonight, the play is to run a ft10 between BT Viscant (Dictator/Gief) vs Steinmania (Julia/Jin) live with commentary in between matches. After they finish, they’ll be taking calls and questions via skype and streamchat.

Regardless of character selection, these are 2 great players that are more than willing to answer any technical or general questions you may have about the game. We here in San Diego play a lot, and I know that Viscant has dedicated an ungodly amount of time to this game already and has stuck with Bison the whole time. Hope to see you guys there at 8:00 PM PST, and I thank all of you in advance for your support.

them move inputs man it gets stupid from time to time.

Is it just me, or has the Bison warp become alot better in this game than SSF4?

If frame data is to be believed, it’s actually 1f slower than AE (43f vs 42f).

its slower

A nice trick against people that don’t quick rise, teleport behind after you land a light scissor. Will most likely fuck up a roll attempt and if they do roll back it gives you perfect spacing for a cross up J.mk. Works best after hard knockdowns. Great for staying in that ass. St.lk all day just like ST baby.

He has good anti roll tech along with Lili.

I got the game temporarily for now SNO, let’s destroy some shoto scrubs via tagteam!

Oh… strange. I still find it alot more usefull than in SSF4, perhaps it’s something about the length of the stage or something. Oh well…

The camera is a zoomed out a little bit more than it was in SF4, so teleport moves back a bit further. Also, most people tend to look for rolls on wakeup.

Ah, makes sense. Thanks for clearing it up!

1-2 at Local Battles again. :X Sucks when you know you’ve gotten significantly better only to realize that everyone else has improved just as much, or more. But that’s the name of the game.

That said, attendance for SFxT was startlingly low. 8 people for SFxT and only 2 weren’t also there for Marvel. How has turnout been elsewhere, for you guys?

Big Two had about 30 plus people for SFxT this past Wednesday. I went 2-2 again. This time running Bison and Heihachi, and getting blown up by Dieminion on stream. After shuffling around the game a bit I can’t stay away from Dictator, I guess I do have some character loyalty left. He just feels right to me still.

PS.- Speaking to Jago briefly on Wednesday, he believes Bison is still a strong character in this game. Min also told me EMP Hiro thinks so as well.

But last I heard, Min himself thought Bison sucks, and he comes from CVS2, where footsies are emphasized. I’m not trying to support the whining, I just think it’s not clear yet how Bison is most effectively played in this game.

I’m thinking Bison’s offense will primarily come down to his ambiguous crossups, besides his standard whiff punish to launcher.

Min definitely still thinks that too. I still feel that Bison is under equipped but he still feels comfortable for me so I’ll stick with him. Though I am also learning Ryu as a alternate point character for Bisons more annoying matchups.

Edit- I’m not saying there opinions override all our findings or gripes with the character, I just want to share the impressions about Bison from Bison players that I greatly respect and I know handle the character well.

I feel the same way too, I also have some strange connection with Bison, which doesn’t allow me to switch to a “better” character, such as Ryu og Rufus. I think his psycho power actually overwhelms my ability to make rational judgments. Wow.

However, in my humble opinion, his strengths lies in his ability to whiff punish, where you are almost certain to get a switch, and then you can tag Bison back in for some combos. Also, I find his combos that ends with Psycho Crusher, pretty decent at least, to be honest - or at least rather easy to pull off, with a nice reward. Needless to say, Bisons corner pressure is still very good, and even though the stages length is about 1 kilometer (yay european) long, and a couple of scissor kicks and they are right where you want them, where you can really have fun with the frametraps - and headstomp if they got the attitude to think they can just jump out of your corner. And then there’s the always lovely cross up Devils Reverse <3. All these things also makes him a great meterbattery.

Where to take Bison from here, I really don’t know yet. Just felt like pointing out some of his stronger points. And on a side note, lovely to see the whole Bison character forum not being drowned in some useless whine, but with an emphasis on discussing about how to improve Bison.

Methinks you missed weeks 1-3 of this forum. D: But indeed … ever onward, to the loving grip of the Pax Bisonica.

Haha, yeah, I know… but it seems that people have settled with the situation, and those who still don’t like the game, have probably returned it by now. ^^
