I got GFAQS on this one. The real top players on srk wont even want to participate so srk will have a group of scrubs that THINK they are tight.

Thafranchise got it right. None of the upper echelon of players will participate in this cuz its crappy online. They know they will have to play players from gfaqs with 3 or less bars due to distance or shit internet(all online tourneys have this problem). They know they won’t be able to realistically play the game properly due to input lag.

While on the flipside, I would think the best 8 players at gf all play online religiously. So what you will get is the best 8 gf players vs 8 very average srk players or worse. Then a clash of ego’s ensue. If gf wins, it will most certainly lead to “haha lulz gfaqs pwnz srk nubs” and vice versa if srk wins. But if gfaqs did lose to average or mediocre players from srk, that would be a bad loss. I just don’t see anything positive coming out of this. Do the shit offline at a major event…

WOW so much hate. i am a member of the gamefaqs team and this is the only way for me to actually fight against some of the great players ( which i am sure wont join because they have bigger fish to fry ) but it would be great to get to fight some great players.

We always fight each other on gamefaqs and it would be interesting to fight dedicated people to fighters like you guys are here at srk that’s all from my end. I cant really spend the time going to tournaments as real life has it’s grips on me but next year i’d like to go it’s really the only way to get better fighting great players.

Thanks for those who want to participate and Mista Klutch for actually trying to set something like this up i hope it’s gonna be fun and informative.

seriously if you wanted to play dedicated players simply post in the match making thread. also, can you post the top tag for gamefaqs top 8. i’d like to know if i’ve played anyone of them.

I’ve gone to Evo the last two years and I live in NC. The first time, I wasn’t even playing in any official tournaments. Flying to Vegas is pretty cheap, really. The worst most of you would have to do to get to an offline tourney is drive a few hours. I would think that if you guys really care about being good, you’d get out.

I thought you sounded familiar. You came to the two Blacksburg tournaments we held back in 2003.

That’s right. Those were very fun. I did pretty well in most games, but all I really won was DoA3. Came close in Virtua Fighter and Guilty Gear. A lot has changed since then now that I’m mostly 2D.

Sabre and everyone else w/constructive criticism and input, thanks. I’ll be moving this thread to the xbl section, and I’ll speak with my team about offline tourneys. Also, an offline tourney just didn’t seem feasible or logistically sensible when all this was being planned. The 8 players that are representing us at this exact moment will be posted in the other thread.

Oh, and the invitation still stands to anyone who is interested in the online comp.

If only this was PS3 and BB I might be interested. SF4’s online is not nearly as good though and the game due to fundamental design choices is hurt a lot more by the lag…

Sabre’s posts are pretty much spot on. Me personally, I have no interest for those reasons. I rarely play people who have two bar connections as is, so I definitely would not want to play UK players and probably not even West Coast players. Not to mention, I know where I stand. I doubt that I’m even top 5 at my character in my own state. I’m hardly an example of a quality Sagat.

The Gamefaqs guys should really consider traveling to tournaments. I’m an extreme situation in that I’ve traveled 6 hours just to attend monthly tournaments. Granted, my girlfriend lived 6 hours away, so I had more motives than fighting games :razzy: But, the trips are worth it. I have a lot of fun and the top VA players, both GGXX and SF4, have been nothing other than respectful and nice to me. Build up a following and maybe you can try to run a SRK vs. GF at a major. Every region has one of those, these days.
